Chapter 386: Chapter 383: The Drunkard
Just at that moment, He Qianhui started joking around.
"What harm can drinking do? Are you afraid that you might get confused after drinking and mistake me for someone else, or mistake someone else for me?"
"I think you would never get yourself that drunk," said He Qianhui, making Zhang Hao suddenly feel somewhat embarrassed.
"You trust me that much, huh? You also know that when people drink too much, they do silly things. What if I mistake someone else for you later on? Where would I go to argue then? So it’s better for me not to touch a drop."
Since he said he wouldn’t touch a drop, He Qianhui didn’t try to stop him any further.
"Alright, alright, you don’t have to drink if you don’t want to. As for those two, they can do whatever they like."
The other two eventually understood Zhang Hao’s concern as well.
They decided to drive the car toward the city center and not to fuss over the distance.
After all, he wasn’t familiar with the roads here, and if they returned to the city, it would be like adding wings to a tiger, unstoppable.
Zhang Hao led the way in the car, with his two friends following behind without any complaints.
Following him all the way, they finally entered the bustling streets of the city center, but this had spoiled the rare day off.
Being busy the whole time only to come up empty-handed; in crucial times, they still had to rely on He Qianhui.
He Qianhui clearly felt that there was something wrong with Zhang Hao’s state of mind.
He hadn’t even reached the restaurant before he started consoling him from the passenger seat.
"We’ll have other opportunities in the future. You’re not going to have just this one vacation throughout the year."
"It’s because none of us had any experience this time that things got messed up. Next time you get a day off, it won’t be our first time anymore."
Even with He Qianhui’s consolation, Zhang Hao still felt upset.
"It’s all because of those guys messing around for no reason. If they hadn’t brought up outdoor barbecuing, I wouldn’t have bothered with it at all."
He Qianhui understood Zhang Hao held resentment inside and let him vent it out appropriately.
"No matter how you put it, they’re still your good brothers. Maybe you’ll need their help in the future."
"You can’t possibly end your friendship over such a small thing. Let them make it up to us by treating us to this meal later."
As for who would pay, Zhang Hao didn’t really care. It was just three or five hundred or seven or eight hundred yuan.
He could afford that amount of money.
After returning to the city center, finding a place to eat was also a matter of chance.
Zhang Hao also rarely dined out on regular days and couldn’t say where the barbecue was best.
He could only judge by which stall had a lot of people and seemed to be doing good business.
At least those with too many empty tables certainly had a reason for being quiet.
Among the numerous barbecue stalls, Zhang Hao accurately found one that was the busiest.
When they parked their car by the roadside, they looked through the car window and realized.
There didn’t seem to be any empty tables at the entire stall.
"Looks like the business here is pretty good. Should we wait here for a while?"
"It’s still early. Maybe a table will free up after a while."
His two friends sent messages, and Zhang Hao replied promptly.
"I’ll go down and take a look. Maybe there are empty tables inside."
Zhang Hao unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car, and He Qianhui followed him down as well.
Upon entering, they saw the boss sitting behind a small table, engrossed in a soap opera.
Noticing the new arrivals, the boss immediately paused the TV show.
"How many?"
Zhang Hao indicated towards the entrance and said, "Six in total, but it seems like you have no seats available here."
The female boss smiled slightly and pointed to the simple room behind her, "There are a few empty tables in this room."
"Nowadays, in the height of summer, everyone likes to dine out, so they prefer not to sit inside."
"If you also want to eat outside, I can have someone move the tables out for you."
Zhang Hao felt the temperature of tonight’s air, with a slight breeze blowing, not too muggy, the coolness of the air-conditioning couldn’t compare to the natural wind.
If he were to drink some ice-cold beer, that would definitely feel much better than staying indoors.
"Then if it’s not too much trouble, could you please help us move the tables and chairs outside, just over there, would that be okay?"
The lady boss glanced over and nodded: "Sure, I’ll arrange it now. Here’s the menu, take a look and see what you’d like to eat. Our prices are reasonable, and we serve generous portions."
Whether the portions were generous could be understood just by looking at what was on other customers’ tables.
He Qianhui glanced around and saw that those tables had already been filled with a variety of skewers.
The chicken wings weren’t small, the chunks of meat on the skewers were also quite large, and the other items were not bad either.
The boss wasn’t lying; looking at the quantity, the prices were indeed not too expensive.
Once the tables and chairs had been moved over, the people from the other two cars got out.
Six people sat together in pairs.
The three women were like three flowers, instantly becoming the most eye-catching part of the barbecue stand.
Besides skewers, other things were prepared in advance, and only the cold dishes needed to be personally selected from the refrigerator in the simple room.
After several trips back and forth, the table was finally filled with food.
Skewers excluded, of course.
The barbecue chef stood in front of the grill, deftly flipping the skewers with both hands
Seasoning them.
Watching the charcoal fire below the grill suddenly blaze up for just an instant was all it took for those skewers to start showing uneven browned spots.
Those browned spots tasted the best.
During the wait, He Qianhui suddenly felt the urge to use the restroom and whispered to Zhang Hao before heading towards the bathroom.
The other four people quickly asked Zhang Hao what was going on.
Zhang Hao gave them an honest answer.
"The place is so chaotic, and you’re not following her? Your girlfriend is so pretty, what if some drunkard pesters her, what would you do?" his good friend reminded.
Zhang Hao had never considered this before, and his friend’s words made him anxious.
He quickly rose from his chair and chased after her.
The restroom was located in a fairly hidden corner.
By the time Zhang Hao got there, he started pacing back and forth at the restroom’s entrance.
When he heard some noise inside, Zhang Hao finally stopped.
After waiting for a while, he saw He Qianhui coming out.
"Eh, why are you here? Didn’t I tell you to wait for me at the front?"
"I was afraid someone bad might follow you, so I came here. I’m relieved you’re fine."
No sooner had Zhang Hao said this than He Qianhui seemed not to take the issue to heart.
She looked around and laughed, "Where would the bad people come from? Let’s go, let’s head back first."
They walked back, and after only a few steps, they saw a man staggering towards them.
Zhang Hao cautiously pulled He Qianhui to his side to avoid any unpleasant contact with the drunkard.
Just this movement somehow provoked the man.
The man finally stopped and pointed at He Qianhui’s face.
"What are you hiding, beauty? You’re so pretty, I haven’t even had time to like you yet, what is your relationship with the guy next to you?"
He Qianhui couldn’t understand how she seemed to attract whatever she spoke about these days.
She had just said that they wouldn’t encounter any bad people here, and in less than a minute, a bad person had come over on his own.
He Qianhui felt so annoyed inside, but she could only hide behind Zhang Hao to avoid being bullied by the man.
"Big brother, this is my girlfriend. Thank you for your liking, I like her a lot too," Zhang Hao said.
