Chapter 382: Chapter 379: Lin Wan’s Call
Whether to flee or not wasn’t something He Qianhui could decide; it all depended on whether Zhang Hao would give her the opportunity.
Her hands were held tightly by Zhang Hao.
The grip wasn’t strong, but escaping wasn’t easy either.
He Qianhui pretended to try a couple of times before giving up on fleeing.
Thinking that Zhang Hao wouldn’t harm her, she let him do as he wished.
Just as Zhang Hao was about to get intimate, the mobile phone on the coffee table suddenly rang.
Seeing the familiar number flashing on the screen, Zhang Hao couldn’t help but pull himself out of his excited state.
Noticing the change in Zhang Hao’s attitude, He Qianhui also became curious and propped herself up to look.
She glanced at the phone screen, and the number was very unfamiliar to her.
However, the contact name attached to the number sparked a new resentment in He Qianhui.
"Why is Nurse Lin calling you? Haven’t you two cut off your relationship?"
Zhang Hao hesitated, but still answered the call.
Although the two of them had ended their private relationship completely,
they still were colleagues on the surface, and since he had been on leave at home for the past few days, he was unaware of what had happened at the hospital.
During his time off, Zhang Hao hardly bothered to look at the content in the work group.
If there was anything urgent, his colleagues from the hospital would surely contact him directly.
Now that Lin Wan was calling him, could it be that his department had received some kind of difficult patient?
"I remember he’s been on day shift lately; he should be at home by this time,"
Zhang Hao muttered to himself, answering the call with a nervous heart.
The moment the call connected, Zhang Hao heard the noise, chatter, and piercing music from the other end.
From the sounds of it, it wasn’t hard to guess that Lin Wan was at a bar.
"Nurse Lin, are you okay?"
Zhang Hao asked with concern, though the concern was only due to their status as colleagues.
After all, He Qianhui was beside him, and he couldn’t appear too worried.
"Mr. Zhang, I’ve been drinking. Could you come and pick me up, send me home?"
"What’s your husband’s phone number? I’ll have him come get you."
Lin Wan was now a married woman, and Zhang Hao didn’t want to get involved in their affairs.
The relationships between men and women can be messier than tangled rope, and even harder to sort out.
Zhang Hao had no intention of getting himself entangled.
Even if he stepped back ten thousand steps, he already had He Qianhui. Her presence satisfied all his needs.
Whether it was emotional or physical, it seemed like there was no better match for him in this world than her.
He had no reason to make the foolish mistake of picking sesame seeds while losing a watermelon.
"Mr. Zhang, I want you to come get me, I don’t want to see him."
Not wanting to see her own husband – what was this about?
Before Zhang Hao could react, He Qianhui took the phone away.
"Nurse Lin, hello, I’m Zhang Hao’s fiancée, He Qianhui. I don’t know what has happened to you,"
"why you are calling my fiancé but, as I recall, you are already married."
"Shouldn’t you be calling your husband to come get you at a time like this, or is it that he’s busy and can’t come?"
Lin Wan was slumped over the bar table, unable to make out what the woman on the other end of the line was saying.
Some words were like a fishbone stuck in her throat; she wanted to say them but couldn’t manage to get them out, and ultimately, she hung up the phone resolutely.
After hanging up, He Qianhui placed the phone on the coffee table.
However, the atmosphere that the two of them had just created was, in that instant, disrupted by the phone call and ceased to exist.
He Qianhui straightened out her clothes and got up to return to the bedroom.
Zhang Hao sat on the sofa, staring blankly at the phone before he too stood up and went back to the bedroom.
As for Lin Wan, who was being ignored in the bar at that moment, Zhang Hao didn’t want to think about her.
But once he returned to the bedroom, his heart couldn’t settle down.
After all, he had had some intimate relations with Lin Wan, so to be utterly heartless and ignore her entirely was something he found impossible.
He adjusted his position, lying on his side to look at He Qianhui beside him, observing her expression before he spoke.
He noticed that her expression was indifferent, not showing any signs of anger.
"Are you angry?" Zhang Hao asked tentatively.
"Me, angry? Why should I be angry?" He Qianhui countered.
There’s no way Lin Wan could compete with her for Zhang Hao anymore. Even if she tried, she’d have to divorce her current husband first.
A divorced woman had no right...
As she thought this, He Qianhui suddenly felt a pain in her heart – a divorced woman.
Wasn’t she also a divorced woman? As this dawned on her, tears began to well up in her eyes.
If Lin Wan truly couldn’t let go of Zhang Hao and divorced her current husband, it would be as if they were both on the same starting line.
Thinking this made the whole situation seem terrifying.
Zhang Hao, sitting beside her, naturally couldn’t fathom the richness of He Qianhui’s inner world.
He only noticed that she hadn’t spoken for a while, and suddenly her eyes reddened.
Zhang Hao quickly turned, taking a tissue to wipe away her tears.
"You’re definitely angry," Zhang Hao said.
"I... I really am not. Nurse Lin is your colleague, and it’s only right for colleagues to care for each other."
"It’s just that I can’t understand why she would go to a bar after work."
"And then lose control and drink too much, needing to call you to take her home."
The one who couldn’t understand this wasn’t just He Qianhui; even Zhang Hao was a bit confused.
"She told me on the phone that she didn’t want to see her husband. I remember she was very happy when she got married."
"And she also said that her husband had always loved her very much. I have a question for you."
"If you get married in the future, would you choose someone you love or someone who loves you?"
Just as He Qianhui, feeling wronged, was about to cry, she heard this question and quickly wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes with a tissue.
She also adjusted her emotional state.
"Of course, I would look for someone I love and who loves me in return. Otherwise, without deep mutual love, one side will always suffer."
Recalling the days she spent with Liu Gang, He Qianhui felt those times were incredibly bleak.
Although Liu Gang was very good to her in every aspect, and she tried to accept this man who had always liked her, some things just couldn’t be forced.
Even if one could endure it for a short while, eventually, they would crave more.
They would always be swayed from their original intentions by the slightest temptation from the outside world.
That’s why He Qianhui had considered this question before and could answer Zhang Hao’s question so quickly.
"Then you’re really greedy, but you’re lucky; I like you, and you like me," Mr. Zhang said.
He Qianhui snuggled into Zhang Hao’s arms, not wanting to say anything, when the ring of the phone came through again.
The volume of the ring wasn’t loud, but it could still be heard through the wall and a door.
This had become He Qianhui’s Achilles’ heel.
"Just to be safe, you should still go. If something really happened, the police would end up coming to you."
