Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Deer Treasure Medicinal Wine

Dr. Xu said with a smile, "They just left; there are quite a few surgeries in the department of surgery today, everyone’s busy with operations."

Director Sun smiled without saying much, doctors going to perform surgeries was nothing out of the ordinary.

"Since that’s the case, Dr. Xu, please take Zhang Hao around so he can get familiar with things, and try to be capable of working independently as soon as possible, becoming a qualified doctor."

After finishing speaking, Director Sun turned and left. Zhang Hao was about to thank her when he saw that she had already gone up the stairs.

Dr. Xu seemed very tired, verbally agreeing with Director Sun’s words.

However, as soon as Director Sun left, he sat back down in his own seat and continued making phone calls.

Zhang Hao, for the moment, did not know what to do with himself.

Suddenly, a female nurse came stumbling into the office.

"There’s an emergency, a patient outside has a severed hand and needs treatment—aren’t there any other doctors available?"

Dr. Xu looked up and said, "They’ve all gone to perform surgeries, and we don’t have many surgeons to begin with." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Zhang Hao had studied surgery in university, and although it was his first day on the job, he volunteered himself by saying, "Can I go take a look?"

The nurse looked at Zhang Hao, somewhat hesitant, "I haven’t seen you before, are you new here?"

Zhang Hao nodded, and the nurse, thinking of the patient’s urgent condition, decided that even though this was a new doctor, his professional knowledge should be sufficient. After all, it was the patient’s best interest that mattered.

"Okay, then follow me."

When they arrived in the emergency room, Zhang Hao saw the injured person, who appeared to be in his fifties.

The hand was mangled, and a preliminary assessment suggested it had been crushed by machinery.

And from the X-rays, it was determined that the entire hand was crushed into three sections, including the fingers.

It could be said the injury was very severe. The patient’s son got down on his knees to Zhang Hao, "Doctor, doctor, you must save my father and preserve his hand. I don’t care how much it costs."

In reality, the issue wasn’t about money at all, but whether or not it could be treated.

Back in school, Zhang Hao had studied similar cases and marveled at the almost godlike existence of surgeons.

Now faced with such a situation, he could not help but feel nervous.

But he had already planned in his mind how to proceed with the treatment and had contacted the operating room to open up a passage.

Zhang Hao went straight to the operating table, fully aware that what he was doing violated regulations, but he had to put those aside in the interest of saving a life.

The surgery lasted four or five hours before it finally ended, and by stepping down from the operating table, Zhang Hao felt as though he had exhausted all of his energy.

Fortunately, the outcome was good—the patient’s hand function was preserved by ninety percent.

Only the distal blood vessels and nerves could not be reconnected, sacrificing the less critical parts to save the more essential ones.

The patient’s son was very satisfied with such a treatment outcome.

He knelt down outside the operating room to thank Zhang Hao for his life-saving efforts.

By the time Zhang Hao returned to the surgical clinic, the once empty clinic was now bustling with people,

including Director Sun, who had shifted from the morning’s friendliness to a more serious demeanor.

"Zhang Hao, you are not yet a formally recognized doctor—how could you perform surgery on your own, instead of following the hospital’s procedures and letting other surgeons take the case?"

Zhang Hao scratched his head and said, "How am I not a doctor? Isn’t treating and saving lives the very purpose of studying medicine,">

"And besides, there were no accidents this time, and the patient’s postoperative condition is very good."

"At that time, the only people in the clinic were me and Dr. Xu, but it seemed that Dr. Xu is not an expert in this area."

Zhang Hao never allowed himself to be wronged—if he had done nothing incorrect, he certainly wouldn’t endure criticism for no reason.

"Director Sun, all the surgeons had operations to perform today; you see, even Dr. Wang hasn’t come out of the operating room yet."

"It’s also a stroke of luck that we had Zhang Hao around to save that man’s hand. Let’s not be too hard on him this time."

Director Sun was aware of the shortage of surgeons, but as the head, she had to set an example.

"Since the other doctors have pleaded on your behalf, I won’t pursue this any further, but let there be no repeat of such an incident."

"If it happens again, you can strip and leave, as our hospital has no place for those who disregard discipline."

Zhang Hao was feeling sulky, as he had saved lives and helped the wounded, yet he still got scolded by his superiors.

"Come to my office after work," Director Sun said and then left.

Zhang Hao heaved a sigh of relief, greeted the other doctors, and returned to his seat to prepare his report.

Before leaving work, Zhang Hao went to the restroom.

As he passed by the nurses’ station, he noticed that they seemed to be discussing him.

"Today, our department got a really handsome male doctor, and he jumped right into a big operation on his first day. I wouldn’t dare to do that if it were me."

"He’s a top student. The number of cases he’s researched must be way more than ours. What’s his name?"

"I’ve been so busy today, I didn’t even step into the doctors’ office."

Zhang Hao realized they were talking about him and, out of curiosity, approached them.

"Are you discussing me?"

Seeing Zhang Hao suddenly appear, the nurses screamed in shock, all flustered.

"Doctor Zhang, how did you just pop up like that?"

"It’s you who didn’t notice me. I’ve been standing there for so long, and not a single person saw me; I felt like air," Zhang Hao said.

The nurses giggled shyly: "Doctor Zhang, do you have a girlfriend?"

Zhang Hao shook his head.

"You’re so handsome and still single? I don’t buy it."

"Doctor Zhang’s physique is really good, and he has a big nose. I heard that if a man has a big nose, that other place isn’t small either. Is that true?"

Zhang Hao didn’t expect the nurse to make such a blunt joke, and he didn’t hold back either.

Puffing out his lab coat, he said with a smile, "If you want to know if I’m big, come and give it a try."

The nurse covered her face shyly, making a few complaints to Zhang Hao.

"Doctor Zhang, how can you talk like that?"

Zhang Hao snorted, "So you get to joke about me, but I can’t respond? Besides, who am I to determine the size?"

"It’s for you women to find out for yourselves. If any of you are interested, I’m willing to comply."

After saying this, Zhang Hao saw that it was time to leave. He hadn’t expected his first day at work to end so quickly.

Realizing he still had to visit Director Sun’s office, he packed up his things as the time approached.

Hurrying towards Director Sun’s office, Zhang Hao arrived at the door, which was ajar.

As he was about to push the door and enter, he heard Director Sun inside on the phone.

"Is the medicinal wine effective? I’ve had two courses already, but my husband’s performance hasn’t shown any signs of improvement," she said.

"How about we switch it up this time, and go for deer tonic instead? There’s nothing I can do about him starting to decline," she continued.

"I hope this medicinal wine can enhance his capabilities so that maybe I could even consider having a second child."

"Okay, I’ll come and get the wine after work and make him drink an extra couple of cups tonight," she concluded.
