Chapter 215: Chapter 212 Father’s Rescue
Meanwhile, Lin Wan also changed the subject.
"Next time, I’m not going shopping with you anymore. I remember the last time we went out, you didn’t treat me like that."
"Why did you have to provoke me in front of so many people this time? Aren’t you afraid that I’ll get all wet and desperately want you."
Zhang Hao meticulously removed the bones from a fish in front of him and pushed the flesh toward Lin Wan.
"I know, but don’t you think women look very pretty when they’re shy? Plus, you can tease me too."
Before he could finish speaking, Zhang Hao felt something moving between his legs.
Looking down, he discovered it was a pair of delicate white feet, Lin Wan’s.
She had stretched her feet over, placing them on his crotch, her toes scratching downwards.
"So, I’m just returning the favor right now. You’ll have to hold back a bit."
There were patrons eating at the next table, but they hadn’t noticed them.
Zhang Hao coughed twice and picked up a glass of water to calm his nerves.
Seeing the embarrassed look on Zhang Hao’s face, Lin Wan was very happy, considering it a sweet revenge. She quickly withdrew her feet while others were not paying attention.
"See if you’ll bully me like that next time in public. That was just a small punishment for you."
Zhang Hao put the glass down and said quietly, "If we keep retaliating like this, when will it end? But I’m not someone who gives up easily."
Lin Wan looked up to meet Zhang Hao’s eyes, full of ill intents,
and she felt a chill in her heart, but then she thought that the two of them were in a proper restaurant.
Even if he truly couldn’t control himself, he would have to choose a relatively private environment.
But this setting was definitely not suitable.
"Ah, I’m a bit tired today, thinking about going home early to rest. You should know that being a bridesmaid at a wedding is very tiring."
"I might not go to the hospital tomorrow; I need to rest at home, gather my strength so that I don’t run out of energy at the wedding. Gather my strength,"
Zhang Hao immediately replied, "Where do you women get this ’energy’ from? It’s us men who have to supply it to you."
Noticing that Zhang Hao’s speech was getting more and more out of line, Lin Wan glared at him fiercely.
"Your mouth just can’t be tamed, can it? Spouting nonsense without any filter, don’t you worry about others hearing and laughing at you."
Zhang Hao bowed his head opportunistically: "I’m just honest and straightforward, not like some people who keep all their little schemes hidden in their hearts."
"Despite desperately needing it, you still stubbornly talk tough, and you end up uncomfortable without being satisfied."
Lin Wan didn’t want to engage with him anymore, so she urged the waiter to speed up the serving of the dishes.
Although Zhang Hao was relentless with his words, his actions still respected Lin Wan’s decision.
He dropped her off at home and after a brief exchange downstairs, he drove off.
He Qianhui was away on business, leaving the house empty. Looking at the deserted home, Zhang Hao felt no unease.
He sat on the couch and sent a video call invite to He Qianhui.
The ringtone went on for a while, and when it was finally answered, the sound of running water could be heard from the other side.
"Hao, what’s up?" He Qianhui’s voice was still warm and soft, as if she was speaking right into his ear.
"I missed you, just calling to check in."
As the screen shook, He Qianhui came into view, her face still dripping with water, clearly having just washed her face.
"I’ve barely been on my trip, and you already miss me. How come you’ve become so clingy all of a sudden? You weren’t like this before."
Zhang Hao scratched his head: "You said it yourself, that was before. You have no idea how lonely and cold I am here at home alone, needing your warmth."
"Even when I was home, you never talked this much. You’re really a chatterbox."
"But I just arrived here, and I don’t know if the client this time will be easy to deal with."
"You have to stay here for at least a week. Just bear with it at home, and I’ll make it up to you when I get back."
With that promise of compensation, Zhang Hao’s heart finally felt a bit more at ease.
"Okay, got it. After chatting with you for a while, I should go to sleep too. I’m so tired after going shopping with a colleague tonight," said Zhang Hao.
The words "colleague" and "shopping" piqued He Qianhui’s curiosity.
"Why did you go shopping with a colleague? It was a woman, wasn’t it?"
Zhang Hao nodded. If it were a guy, he wouldn’t be bothered to go shopping.
"She wanted a ride in my car, and then I figured I might as well do a good deed to the end, so I accompanied her and even looked at wedding dresses. There was one that I think would look great on you. I’ll take you to try it on when you get back."
He Qianhui walked to the bedroom with her phone and flopped onto the bed.
The neckline of her pajamas was quite low, so when she sprawled out, the view of her chest was fully captured by the camera.
Upon seeing this, Zhang Hao hurriedly urged, "Can you cover up your neckline? Everyone can see everything."
He Qianhui looked down at her own enticing chest, far from concealing it, she even pulled her shoulder down a bit more.
"I’m showing my boyfriend. What’s the problem with that? If you don’t want to see, just hang up the video call."
How could Zhang Hao simply hang up the video call at a time like this? He wanted to take a longer look at the enticing view.
It wasn’t long before He Qianhui straightened her clothes and shifted into a different position.
"I’m not at home because of a business trip, so don’t you dare bring anyone home during this time. If I come back and find a long hair that isn’t mine in the house, you’re not welcome home anymore."
Zhang Hao turned his head away from the camera, although his profile was still in the frame.
"Hair may be off-limits, but what about stockings, underwear, panties? Can those be allowed?"
Zhang Hao knew well that talking like this would get him scolded by He Qianhui, but right now, he was just asking for it.
The couple shared a little joke and then turned off the video call.
Zhang Hao was about to go to sleep when suddenly he received a call from his mom.
And from the urgency in her voice, after Zhang Hao’s persistent questioning,
he found out that his father had accidentally fallen from a height while at work and was now being rushed to the hospital.
Zhang Hao berated his mother for not telling him about this sooner instead of waiting until so late to inform him,
while frantically getting dressed and rushing to the city hospital.
Arriving at the emergency room of the city hospital, he saw his mother’s frail figure, constantly looking towards the operating room door.
At that moment, Zhang Hao felt as if his mother had aged ten years.
"Mom, I’m here."
As soon as she saw her son, the tears she had been holding back fell.
"Your dad, he’s in there. You have to think of something quickly. He can’t have anything happen to him; he’s the pillar of our family."
Zhang Hao of course knew that his father was the pillar of the family. Even though he could now support the family himself, his father was still the head of the household.
"It’ll be okay, he’s already been taken in for emergency treatment, he’s surely going to be fine."
He waited with his mother outside the operating room for a while, seeing nurses coming and going in a hurry. Zhang Hao didn’t step forward to ask questions.
He was a doctor himself and knew that at times like this, one couldn’t delay the medical staff’s emergency work.
Eventually, someone was wheeled out of the emergency room. Zhang Hao quickly stepped forward, saw it wasn’t his father, and stepped back again.
Just as he was about to console his mother, he heard a nurse shout, "Excuse me, who is a relative of Zhang Jian?"
