Chapter 121: Chapter 119 Getting Caught in the Rain

Each time he faced patients with unreasonable demands, Zhang Hao’s attitude was the same.

"It’s almost time to get off work, you two should get ready as well."

Today the department wasn’t very busy, so Zhang Hao hadn’t expended much energy.

When it was time to leave, Zhang Hao was the first out the door and just as he got to the parking lot, he saw Zhao Qing, whom he hadn’t seen all day.

The reason she appeared there was mainly because she had come to realize something.

She and Zhang Hao definitely were not in a romantic relationship.

Moreover, establishing a relationship isn’t something that can be achieved unilaterally.

"I came here today to tell you that I’ve resigned. We’ll go our separate ways, but I won’t forget how you stood up for me in the beginning."

After Zhao Qing spoke her heart, she headed toward her car, pausing for a few seconds before getting in.

She had decided to sever ties with the past, which meant that she must endure the current dull pain.

"Then I wish you all the best for the future."

Zhang Hao’s voice came from behind, and Zhao Qing waved her hand in farewell.

The next morning, a torrential downpour.

Zhang Hao had planned to drive, but discovered his car would not start.

After several unsuccessful attempts and seeing that he was about to be late, he hailed a taxi at the roadside.

The back and forth had left his jacket completely soaked by the rain, but fortunately, Zhang Hao was prepared, and he changed his clothes in the office before seeing any patients.

Xu Mi arrived on time and was unaware that Zhang Hao was changing clothes within the department, and she walked straight in.

There was no sound as the door opened, and Xu Mi saw Zhang Hao with his back to the door, shirtless.

Under the overhead light, the muscle lines on his back were clearly visible.

This reminded Xu Mi of the basketball team at her school, where her crush also had a similar build.

"Mr. Zhang, didn’t you use an umbrella?"

Zhang Hao uttered an "ah" sound, turned around to see Xu Mi, and realizing that being shirtless was inappropriate, hastily dressed in the dry clothes."

"The rain was too heavy, a few slow steps and I was drenched."

Zhang Hao said this as he hung the wet clothes he had taken off on a hanger, finding an inconspicuous place to hang them up.

"Where’s Ling Tong? Why don’t I see her? It’s only her second day of internship, and she’s late," Zhang Hao casually mentioned.

It was only when he mentioned it that Xu Mi remembered to request leave for Ling Tong.

"Mr. Zhang, Ling Tong said she has family issues and can’t come today, she hopes you can grant her a day off."

Zhang Hao nodded and went to the treatment room to prepare the instruments needed for the new day. After all, Liu Jiao was a nurse temporarily transferred in,

so he couldn’t expect her to handle everything. With Zhao Qing resigning, they should soon arrange for a new nurse to come.

"After your internship, where do you plan to work?" Zhang Hao asked in small talk.

"I’m not sure yet. I want to go to a big hospital where the pay is higher," Xu Mi replied straightforwardly to Zhang Hao’s question.

"Then you’ll have to work hard. In the Chinese medicine departments of big hospitals, all the doctors on duty are at the professor level, but I hope I won’t lead you astray."

Xu Mi was taken aback. Through a day’s internship, she could tell that Zhang Hao was highly skilled in medicine.

But to be so humble was really rare.

"Mr. Zhang, don’t talk down about yourself. You are very excellent too."

Today Liu Jiao didn’t come, and the other nurses didn’t come either. The spacious department was left with just Zhang Hao and Xu Mi.

Xu Mi wasn’t tall enough and needed to reach for something on top of a cabinet. On her tiptoes, she jumped a few times and accidentally twisted her foot, toppling straight onto the floor.

Zhang Hao heard the noise inside and hurried over to check.

"Are you okay?" Zhang Hao came over to inspect.

Xu Mi pointed to her ankle and said, "Here, I think I’ve twisted it."

Zhang Hao rolled up Xu Mi’s trouser leg, revealing her slender calf, and wiped the area around the outer ankle, which was slightly swollen.

"I’ll pick you up, don’t be nervous, it’s nothing serious."

With muscles like Zhang Hao’s, lifting Xu Mi was a piece of cake.

Xu Mi sat on the examination bed, one leg stretched out straight, while the other dangled in mid-air.

Zhang Hao helped her take off her shoes and socks to check the injury on her foot, "I’ll go get an ice pack."

He left quickly and returned just as fast. Zhang Hao’s efficiency gave Xu Mi a somewhat different feeling.

"Mr. Zhang, you’re so kind. Whoever becomes your girlfriend in the future will be incredibly lucky."

Zhang Hao chuckled, "You’re still young. What do you know about matters of the heart? Just take care of yourself for now."

"I just wanted to compliment you. Can’t I even say you’re good without it being an issue?" Xu Mi felt incredibly aggrieved.

"Fine, once you start working, just go around telling everyone that you met a good director during your internship."

After applying the ice pack for a while, the swelling wasn’t as severe as before, but she still wasn’t in any condition to work.

"Looking at your condition, you need to go home and rest for a couple of days. Don’t come in for the next two days, and once you’ve mostly recovered, you can come back."

Actually, Xu Mi had been thinking about how to ask for time off, and she didn’t expect Zhang Hao to bring it up first. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Then, thank you, Mr. Zhang. As soon as I’m better, I’ll come back."

Zhang Hao prepared some dark medicinal ointment for her, to be applied to the affected area to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

"Okay, I’ll escort you out. There are a lot of people outside, and if someone were to bump into you and cause another fall, it would just add insult to injury."

Zhang Hao kindly escorted Xu Mi towards the exit.

As they passed through the hospital’s treatment hall, they bumped into an old acquaintance coming for a job interview, Lin Wan!

At first, Zhang Hao thought he had seen wrong.

He stopped in his tracks and took a closer look, only to realize that it was indeed her.

Wasn’t Lin Wan working at the city hospital? Why was she here? Could she be here for him?

Xu Mi noticed the change in Zhang Hao’s expression and asked curiously, "Mr. Zhang, did you see someone you know?"

Xu Mi’s question snapped Zhang Hao back to reality, "Ah, I saw an old friend."

When Lin Wan turned around, she too saw Zhang Hao and also noticed Xu Mi, whom Zhang Hao was assisting.

However, Lin Wan didn’t think too much about it and approached them.

"Zhang Hao, I thought you hadn’t come to work today. I’m here for a job interview. Soon, we’ll be colleagues!"

Hearing that Lin Wan was here for an interview, Zhang Hao felt a surge of happiness.

"Which department are you interviewing for?"

Lin Wan shook her head, "I don’t know yet. Which department are you in? Are you still in surgery?"

Zhang Hao pointed behind himself and said, "I’ve been promoted to director at this hospital, in charge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Surely you didn’t come just for me?"

Because he was quite familiar with Lin Wan, Zhang Hao spoke more freely in her presence.

Lin Wan rolled her eyes at him, "Of course not for you. What are you up to?"

"The intern here did something to twist her ankle. I’m escorting her out. With so many people around, she’s not very mobile. What if she gets knocked or bumped into?"

Lin Wan uttered an "Oh", her tone becoming concerned, "Then you should go. I’ll wait here for your return."

Zhang Hao nodded and continued to escort Xu Mi outside, with her giggling with each step they took.

"What’s so funny?" Zhang Hao asked curiously.

"Nothing, it’s just... I found your expression while talking to the sister just now quite amusing," she said.

Amusing expression!

Zhang Hao became even more puzzled.

"I’m already 22 years old, Mr. Zhang. Don’t treat me like a child."

"I’ve developed quite fully. If I couldn’t understand the subtle exchanges between you two, I’d be rather slow on the uptake."
