Chapter 89: Let’s Talk

Yvonne had received a phone call from Christian half an hour ago. He told her that Michael was drinking alone at a bar now and instructed her to hurry over. Naturally, she would not let such a good opportunity just go to waste.

"Michael, did something happen? Why are you drowning your sorrows alone here?" asked Yvonne, putting on an innocent front.

"Nothing happened," said Michael with his head bowed. "Go away, just leave me alone."

"How can I possibly just leave you alone in this state?" asked Yvonne as she mustered all her strength to help Michael stand up. "You shouldn’t drink anymore, let me send you home."

"I don’t want to go home! I don’t want to see Wendy Stewart!" said Michael when he heard Yvonne’s offer to bring him home.

Yvonne was delighted to hear Michael say that he did not want to see Wendy. The dim lighting in the bar was perfectly concealed her smile.

She played along with Michael, "Okay, okay, we won’t go home. Shall I take you to my house, then?"

"To your house?" Michael waved his hand, refusing her, "I don’t want to."

Even though he was drunk, he still subconsciously remembered that Wendy did not want him getting too close to Yvonne. He knew that she would certainly be angry if she found out that he went to Yvonne’s house.

Yvonne decided to take advantage of Michael’s drunken state. She suggested, "Let’s just get out of the bar first, okay?" With that, she managed to drag Michael out of the place with great difficulty. Then, she struggled to help him into the passenger seat. Once that was done, she walked over to the driver’s seat and drove the car to her apartment.

She sped the entire way home. She never expected Michael to be this drunk. To her, this was practically a god-sent opportunity. She just needed to get Michael back to her apartment.

Given his state of intoxication, it would be easy for something intimate to happen between them. It would be impossible for Michael to deny any involvement with her even when he regained clarity the following morning.

She managed to drag him to her apartment.

The moment they stepped in, she followed her plan and started undressing Michael. Her voice was as gentle as could be, "Michael, you’re drunk, and I’m sure you feel terrible. Come, let me help you remove your clothes. You’ll feel much better after that."

It was obvious that she was doing more than just helping him change out of his clothes. Her hands roamed around his body seductively.

Michael was so drunk that he could not stand still. He stumbled back and fell onto the couch, all the while allowing Yvonne to continue undressing him.

Yvonne was delighted to observe Michael’s lack of resistance. However, right when she started unbuckling his belt, he grabbed her hand. He shook his head desperately while staring at the woman before him. "Who are you?" he said. No matter how hard he stared, his vision was blurred.

"I’m Yvo..." Yvonne instinctively wanted to respond with her own name, but reluctantly, she decided to take another approach. "I’m Wendy Stewart. I’m your wife."

She hated having to impersonate Wendy. She believed that Michael belonged to her in the first place, but the only way that she could gain his trust now was to pretend to be Wendy.

"Wendy, is it really you?" When Michael heard those words, he immediately pulled Yvonne into his arms. He said, "Wendy, why did you cheat on me? Tell me, do you really love Christian?"

"I don’t love Christian at all, Michael. You’re the only person that I love," said Yvonne as she basked in the warmth of Michael’s embrace.

Even if this was not meant for her, and even if he was only doing this because he mistook her for Wendy, she still wanted to enjoy this moment This also made her more determined.

No matter what, she had to make sure that they ended up being intimate tonight. As Yvonne continued soothing him, she leaned in to kiss him. At the same time, she whipped out her phone and secretly took a few photos of the two of them like that.

Just when their lips were about to touch, Michael suddenly pushed Yvonne away. He stood up and took two steps back, lengthening the distance between them. Shaking his head, he said, "You’re not Wendy, she doesn’t talk to me like that."

However, before Yvonne could finish speaking, Michael shoved her again and then raced out of the apartment. Yvonne immediately chased after him. "Michael..." She ran as fast as she could and reached out to grab him.

Michael, on the other hand, kept on chanting the same line, "You’re not Wendy, you’re not Wendy!"

He ended up flinging her hand away forcefully, causing her to fall to the ground. Then, he turned around and entered the elevator.

Yvonne had just managed to stand on her feet again when she saw the elevator doors closing.

By the time she entered the adjacent elevator and reached the ground floor, Michael was nowhere to be seen. She was so furious that she stomped on the ground. Fortunately, she had listened to Christian’s instructions by capturing photographic evidence of their interaction already.

When she reached home, she dug out her phone and looked through the photos that she had taken. Her lips curled into a smile as she immediately sent them to Wendy.

...

Back in her apartment, Wendy was already in bed. It was 2 A.M. However, she could not bring herself to fall asleep after everything that had happened today. When her phone suddenly chimed, signaling a new text message, she picked it up. She did not recognize this number.

She opened the message and was immediately greeted by the three photos attached within.

However, they were all in the same scene-of Yvonne lying on top of Michael, leaning in so close that it seemed like they were about to kiss.

Wendy instinctively grew angry when she saw these photos.

She thought, did Michael leave so that he could go over to Yvonne’s apartment? Haha... He sure is a restless man. And to think he even claimed that he has never ever had sexual intercourse with Yvonne.

Her chest heaved unevenly as she tightened her fingers around her phone. However, her rationality quickly overcame her emotions. She realized that this might be a good thing after all, as it was likely that Michael would finally agree to get divorced. This was her only goal. She no longer cared about who he wanted to be together, and she would not interfere.

After seeing these photos, Wendy lost what little desire she had had to sleep.

...

The following day, she was awakened by her phone ringing. She heard Mrs. Lucas’s voice the moment she answered, "Wendy, are you and Michael okay? What exactly happened yesterday, can you please talk to me?"

Wendy regained some clarity when she heard the concern in Mrs. Lucas’s voice. Sitting up, she contemplated for a moment before responding, "Grandmother, I never meant for things to get out of hand. But I don’t think there is any other way around this now."

The child that she was carrying was a true descendant of the Lucas family. It belonged to Michael. But he refused to believe her, and even slept with Yvonne last night. In consideration of everything, there was no other option but to get divorced. And this was something that Mrs. Lucas would find out about sooner or later.

"I’m sorry, Grandmother, but Michael is not the father of my child," said Wendy in an apologetic tone, "I’ll get a divorce with Michael. This child will have nothing to do with the Lucas family. I also promise that none of you will ever have to see me again."

"What did you say?" Mrs. Lucas was beyond shocked to hear these words from Wendy. She truly believed that Wendy would never be unfaithful in her marriage, but since her grand daughter-in-law was admitting to it, she could no longer convince herself otherwise.

"Wendy, what on earth happened to you?" said Mrs. Lucas in a disappointed tone.

"I’m sorry, Grandmother," said Wendy. She genuinely meant it. After all, Mrs. Lucas had always trusted her and treated her well. But now, she was lying to the elderly woman.

"Wendy, is there something deeper behind this story? Or were you forced into it?" said Mrs. Lucas, still refusing to believe that Wendy would ever cheat on Michael. "Tell me, I’ll help you."

"Grandmother..." Wendy looked down at her belly as she continued leaning against the headboard.

Her lips curled into a bitter smile as she continued, "Grandmother, if you really do care about me, please help me convince Michael to agree to get divorced and let me go."

"Are you at home now?" said Mrs. Lucas, "I’ll come over right away."

"Grandmother, please don’t do that. It’s not safe for you..." Before Wendy could finish talking, Mrs. Lucas hung up on her. When she heard the beeping sound over the phone, she sighed.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for Mrs. Lucas to come over so that they could resolve things face to face, once and for all. Thinking about the pastries that Mrs. Lucas enjoyed eating, Wendy got out of bed to bake them for her one last time.

However, she soon realized that they were out of sugar. She changed into more presentable clothes so that she could head to the shop downstairs to buy some sugar. The moment she opened the door, she accidentally kicked Something. She was So shocked that she took two steps back.

When she looked down at the obstruction before her door, she felt even more shocked. She said, "Michael?"

Indeed, it was Michael. He had fallen asleep with his back against the door, but when Wendy opened it, his entire body slid down. His head landed on the ground and the pain shocked him awake. Subconsciously, he reached out to rub his eyes and looked around his surroundings blearily. When he saw Wendy standing there, he frowned, "What am I doing here?"

He remembered getting very drunk at the bar last night. He also remembered someone coming to get him. But who was it? Was it Wendy?

"I wanted to ask you the same thing," said Wendy. Michael looked so pathetic lying on the ground, and it was difficult for Wendy to reconcile this image to his usual persona as the president of MC Enterprise.

"Weren’t you the one who brought me back here?" Michael felt slightly disappointed when he heard Wendy’s response.

He thought, I was stupid for expecting her to care about me.

His head still felt a little groggy as he stood up. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

He brushed the dust off his clothes and walked into the apartment like nothing had happened.

What had actually happened last night was that Michael had managed to flag a cab after running out of Yvonne’s apartment. The cab driver initially wanted to refuse Michael as a passenger when he saw the state he was in.

However, Michael kept chanting a specific address. The driver grew concerned about what would happen to Michael if he just left him alone on the streets and thus decided to send him to the address that he kept muttering.

Since he was drunk out of his mind, the driver decided not to charge him, instead treating this ride as a good deed. Michael, on the other hand, had no recollection of how he had ended up outside the apartment. He managed to find their door before he leaned against it and his legs gave way. Then, he fell asleep.

Until now.

Wendy followed him into the apartment. Even though she did not know how he made his way back home, she grew angry when she thought about the photos that Yvonne had sent her.

"Since you’re home, we should have a proper discussion about everything," said Wendy as she tried her best to remain calm. "Since you already know that you’re not the father of my baby, and you’ve decided to rekindle your relationship with Yvonne, we should just get divorced. This is the best outcome for the both of us."

"I’ve rekindled my relationship with Yvonne?" Michael did not understand her. He said, "What do you mean?"

Observing Michael’s denial, Wendy chuckled.

She said, "Perhaps that wasn’t the best way to phrase it. After all, things hadn’t ever ended between the two of you."
