Chapter 714: A Fairytale Wedding Procession (Final Chapter)
The baby was a boy. They named him Ray, hoping that he would be as bright and cheery as a ray of sunlight.
This was the second time Wendy gave birth, and the entire process was smooth. She was supposed to stay in the hospital for the next three days, but Michael was worried, so she stayed there for seven days. Finally, it was time for Wendy to go home.
Michael had been staying by Wendy’s side over the past seven days. He did not let her out of his sight. Even when they were back at home, Michael remained very cautious. He carried Wendy and placed her gently on the bed.
Wendy felt a little helpless at Michael’s paranoia. "I can walk, Michael. I gave birth seven days ago, and it was a smooth delivery."
"That won’t do. You’d better rest on the bed. The confinement period is forty days, and I won’t have you leave the bed even one day earlier," Michael said seriously.
"Even if that’s the case, you don’t have to be this worried." Wendy sighed helplessly when she regarded the row of maternity matrons in front of her.
Michael had hired ten of them to take care of Wendy.
"Don’t worry about it. "
Michael covered Wendy with a blanket and tucked her in.
Michael wanted to let Wendy stay at home during the confinement period, but their home was not large enough to accommodate all ten matrons, so they had to go back to the mansion. This was good news for Michael’s grandmother.
Wendy had become the darling of the Lucas family. Not only did Michael’s grandmother take very good care of her, even the two children remained by her side.
Leah and Jake loved Ray dearly. They often played with him.
At night, Wendy leaned on Michael’s chest and said, "Michael, why don’t we change Leah and Jack’s surnames to Lucas as well?"
This had been on Wendy’s mind for the past few days. Previously, the Lucases had suggested that to Wendy, but she did not agree to it because she had not forgiven Michael then. Now, she was willing to let all her children take the Lucas surname.
"It’s okay. You’re the one who gave birth to all three children, and I love them all equally. I’m already happy that Ray can bear the Lucas surname," Michael said.
Wendy knew that Michael loved her and cared for her, and that made her feel blissful. However, that bliss did not last for long.
A month later, Wendy noticed that Michael had been very busy. Earlier, Wendy had been complaining to Michael that he had been staying by her side instead of going to work. However, she began to feel anxious when she did not see Michael for an entire day.
It was already eleven o’clock, but Michael was still not home. Wendy gave him a call.
"Are you working overtime, Michael? It’s already eleven o’clock. Don’t overwork yourself," Wendy said.
"I’m still busy. Don’t worry about me, you should go to bed."
After Michael finished speaking, Wendy heard a female voice from the other end of the line. "Mr. Lucas, would you take a look at this..."
The voice sounded distant. She could not make out what was being said, but she could tell that it was a woman.
"Michael..." Wendy began, but Michael had already ended the call after saying "okay". Wendy’s heart sank when she heard the dial tone. Why was Michael with another woman so late at night? Was he alone with her, or were there others?
Wendy wanted to call Michael again, but she hesitated. Was Michael getting bored of her? He was fine a few days ago. What happened?
...
When Wendy woke up the next day, Michael was still nowhere to be seen.
Wendy saw Leah and Jake playing with little Ray in the living room. She went over and asked the children, "Leah, Jake, have you seen your Daddy?"
"No. Daddy looks like he’s been very busy," Leah blinked and said. "I haven’t seen him in a while now."
Jake could see that Wendy was worried. He comforted her, "It’s normal for Daddy to be busy with his work, Mummy. MC Enterprise is a big corporation. You don’t have to worry about him."
Wendy nodded.
She went back to her room and stood in front of the mirror. She noticed that she had put on weight.
She braced herself and stepped onto the weight machine. It showed that she weighed about one hundred and forty pounds.
Before she got pregnant, she was only one hundred and twenty pounds.
Pregnancy and postpartum recovery made her put on twenty pounds.
Was Michael neglecting her because she had put on weight?
Wendy was dejected. She decided that she would go on a diet.
She was already at the end of her puerperal period, and her physical condition almost recovered.
She changed into a track suit and stepped onto the treadmill.
Michael’s grandmother got wind of Wendy jogging on the treadmill and immediately went to look for her. "Why are you jogging now, Wendy? You shouldn’t go on a diet so soon."
"Grandmother..." Wendy suddenly became aggrieved when she saw Michael’s grandmother. "Michael has been coming home late, and when I gave him a call last night, I could hear that he’s with another woman. Is he neglecting me because I’ve put on weight?"
"Michael would be the last person in the world to complain about you putting on weight." Michael’s grandmother turned off the treadmill when she heard what Wendy said.
"But he hasn’t been coming home at night." The more Wendy spoke, the more aggrieved she felt. "He doesn’t talk much over the phone either."
"That’s because he’s busy. Don’t worry, he won’t be so busy in another two days," Michael’s grandmother said.
"Another two days?" Wendy seemed to have caught on to something. "What has he been doing that will take him another two days? Also, why haven’t I heard anyone talk about what he’s been doing? Do you know anything about it, Grandmother?"
Michael’s grandmother realized that she had nearly spilt the beans. She immediately said, "I don’t know what he’s doing. Michael mentioned that to me once."
If she continued speaking, Michael’s grandmother was afraid that Wendy might know what was going on. She said, "Let’s not jog on the treadmill. How about you accompany me on a walk in the backyard?"
Wendy felt that something was off with what Michael’s grandmother said.
However, she could not understand why Michael’s grandmother knew about what he was doing, while she remained oblivious.
Of course, she could not reject the possibility that Michael’s grandmother was lying to protect her grandson.
She decided to wait for two more days to see what was going on.
Two days later, Wendy was woken up by Leah and Jake from her sleep.
During the puerperal period, Wendy slept until she woke up naturally because she had nothing else to do.
She would usually wake up at about ten o’clock every morning.
She would have been late if Leah and Jake had not woken her up.
Wendy frowned when she saw that Leah and Jake were dressed up in embellished red costumes. She thought that she was dreaming, so she closed her eyes and continued sleeping. "I must be dreaming, back to sleep," she mumbled.
Leah shook Wendy’s arm and laughed. "Wake up, Mummy. It’s time to get dressed.
Your wedding dress is gorgeous."
"Wedding dress?" Wendy’s eyes suddenly opened wide, and she abruptly sat up on her bed.
"Right. It’s your wedding day today," Leah said with a smile.
"Wedding day?" Wendy was confused.
What was going on?
...
Michael’s grandmother came into the room with the help of a walking stick. She smiled gently, "It’s time to get up, Wendy."
When Wendy saw that Michael’s grandmother was dressed up for the occasion, she realized that Leah was telling the truth.
So, Michael had been busy preparing for the wedding?
Before she gave birth to Ray, Michael had asked her what type of wedding she wanted.
Back then, Wendy thought that Michael was joking and told him that she wanted a grand fairytale wedding procession in red theme.
Wendy began to tear up when she recalled that. Tears stained her cheeks as she got out of the bed.
She walked out of her room and saw that Mary, Tom, and Donna had come. Zen, Yonina, and Milo were there too.
Michael had even invited Todd.
They were all dressed for the procession.
Everyone except her knew that her wedding was today.
Wendy had just stopped crying, but her tears began to flow once more.
Yonina and Zen stepped forward and hugged Wendy. "Alright, you should go and dress up. You don’t want to be late for your own wedding."
Wendy nodded.
After putting on her makeup, Wendy put on a red wedding dress and a veil. She held a small bouquet in her hands.
Michael had spared no expense in preparing for the wedding.
The road from the mansion to their house was covered in a red carpet. On the red carpet were fresh flower petals. Wendy could still smell their fragrance.
As Wendy stood at the front gate of the mansion, she saw Luke arrive, riding on a horse while pulling a luxurious carriage.
Behind the carriage was a long line of people dressed up in similar suits. They were the escorts of the procession.
"I am here to pick up the bride. Let’s get on the carriage." A blissful and genuine smile appeared on Michael’s face.
Wendy could not hold back her tears once again.
Michael was taken aback. He immediately went up next to Wendy and asked her, "What’s wrong, Wendy? Don’t you like it? I thought you would. I..."
"I love it..." Wendy said while sobbing. "I thought you didn’t want me because I put on weight."
Michael breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that. "That’s not possible."
He raised a hand and gave his promise, "I, Michael Lucas, swear that Wendy Stewart shall be the only woman I love in my life. No, not only this life, but forever and ever."
"I love you too." Wendy sobbed as she wiped her tears away with her hand.
Leah and Jake followed behind Wendy. They were giggling.
Milo draped his arm over Yonina’s shoulders and smiled. "Do you like grand weddings like this too? Shall we do the same for our wedding?"
"Stop dreaming! Who wants to marry you?" Yonina said playfully.
"This way please, my bride." Michael extended his palm once again to Wendy.
Wendy sniffled and covered her face with the bouquet. She walked step by step toward the carriage...
On the livestream of the event, the congratulatory messages kept on pouring in.
[Oh, I can’t take this anymore. I’m already full of all the love I’m seeing. Guess I won’t need to eat for the rest of the month.]
[I’m in tears now. Why can’t I be the bride instead? Boo hoo hoo...]
[A fairytale wedding procession! Ah ah, that’s what you call a true wedding.]
[I’ve heard that Michael Lucas had all those clothes custom-made. He even had her name embroidered on the veil. I can’t imagine how much it’ll cost. Well, that’s not important.]
[Wishing Michael and Wendy a lifetime of wedded bliss!]
