Chapter 590: This Was Wendy He Knew
’Wendy’ looked at the wound from the gunshot on Michael’s thigh. It was still bleeding profusely.
"Of course, it is worth it. As long as you are safe and sound," Michael was relieved when he saw Wendy coming back in one piece.
"I am fine. Let’s go to the hospital now. Your wound needs to be attended to at once." ’Wendy’ helped Michael stand and put his arm over her shoulder as they wobbled to the car. Evan came over to help as well.
The helicopter rose into the air. But by then, no one had their eyes on the helicopter.
In the helicopter, Wendy was by the window. As she looked down at Michael and the woman, tears welled up in her eyes. She raised her hand and banged on the window while shouting Michael’s name out loud. But Michael could not hear at all. The helicopter rose even higher, and soon, Wendy could not see Michael’s car anymore.
"Stop looking." Christian pulled Wendy back by her arm, hoping to get her attention back to him. Wendy shrugged off his hand. The tears in her eyes made everything looked blur, including Christian. "Christian, what do you want from me? How did you find someone who looked exactly like me?"
"What do I want? You are a smart woman. I am sure you would have guessed the reason by now." Christian looked at Wendy solemnly and said, "Wendy, from now on, you are mine."
"Dream on!" Wendy gritted her teeth as she retorted.
"Whether is it a dream or not, I’m sure you can tell by now," Christian said.
"Michael will realize that that ’Wendy’ is a fake. And they will arrest you for your wrongdoings. Christian, you putting up a fight now is just a delay tactic, and it will not hold for long." Wendy looked up at the man in front of her and stared at him in vengeance.
"Even if so, don’t even think of leaving me. From now on, you are my woman no matter what." Christian pulled her towards him and then shoved her into a seat behind him. He threatened, "You had better behave and do as I say. Or else, Zen and you will not live to see the daylight tomorrow."
Seeing Christian’s face, Wendy felt revolted with disgust. "Christian, you are sickening."
"Oh, that’s too bad. You will have to see this sickening face every day for the rest of your life," Christian smirked.
Wendy did not want to engage further with Christian, so she did not say a word after.
She looked at Zen and stood up to walk over to her. Wendy had wrapped her wound briefly earlier, and it had stopped bleeding. But with the movements up the helicopter, the wound started bleeding again.
Anxious, she turned to the doctor, who was seated in a corner. "What are you doing there? Save her!"
"Yes... " The doctor had been silent throughout. He was not sure of the situation in the helicopter, but he knew one thing for sure ... he could not afford to offend anyone. So, before anyone gave him any instructions, he did not dare to do anything.
As the doctor started preparing to tend to Zen’s wound, Christian said, "Did I give you the permission to move?"
The doctor froze on Christian’s comment. He reached up to wipe off the sweat on his forehead and stood on the spot without moving another muscle. Tense, his gaze shifted between Christian and Wendy.
"What do you mean by this?" Wendy raised her head and looked at Christian.
"Was I not clear enough?" Christian laughed. "I don’t want to save her."
...
"Didn’t you agree to let the doctor come along with us?" Wendy did not expect Christian to say that.
"The doctor was arranged by you guys. Did I request him? It was also you who wanted to save Zen," Christian laughed coldly. "Zen betrayed me. I couldn’t be happier if she died. What makes you think that I would save someone who betrayed me? I am different from you. I am not as benevolent as you are."
Between the lines, Christian meant that Zen had betrayed Wendy a few times before but Wendy still wanted to save her nonetheless.
"Christian, you are so hard-hearted." Wendy was furious that her fingers shook as she pointed at him. "After all, Zen had been with you for some time and even had your child before. You are just going to let her die in front of your eyes?"
"Why not?" Christian scoffed and asked.
"You... " Wendy was so mad that she did not know what to say to Christian anymore.
Such a cold-blooded person he was. The word humanity would not appear in his dictionary. It was impossible to pin any hope that someday he would change for the better.
Wendy took a deep breath and asked warily, "Under what circumstances would you save Zen?"
"I have said it earlier. I don’t intend to save her at all," Christian said indifferently as he made his way and sat down in one of the seats. He crossed his long legs in front of him.
"Christian, you want me to beg you for this favor, right? I have already done so.
State your conditions. As long as it is not too absurd, I will do as you say."
"And what if my request is absurd?" Christian peered shrewdly at Wendy. He looked at Wendy from head to toe. After she had changed out of her clothes for the fake ’Wendy,’ she put on the clothes prepared by Christian. Through Christian’s eyes, it was as if he could see through what she was wearing. This made Wendy very uncomfortable.
"Christian, you should know that there is a limit to my tolerance. Don’t go overboard otherwise, I don’t know what I will do." She was not sure what Christian had in mind, but she needed to reinforce her stand. Otherwise, Christian might take it that he could ask for anything under the sun.
"Okay then. I will pick one that is not too absurd," Christian said. "Kiss me, and I will let the doctor save her."
"Out of the question!" Wendy rejected instantly.
"Oh, really?" Christian laid his hand on his knee and drummed his fingers leisurely.
Clearly, he was in no hurry. "Okay. Take your time to think. I have plenty of time. But I am not sure how much longer Zen can hold up for, though. It doesn’t matter to me if she dies. It makes things easier for me too. After we get off, I will just get someone to throw her body into the sea."
"Christian, you... " Wendy wanted to curse at him, but she knew better as there was no point in doing so anyway. She shifted her gaze to Zen. She was becoming paler by the minute as she lost more blood. She had already lost a lot when she was shot.
If it continued, she would surely die.
Wendy clenched her fist as she tried to suppress her emotions. She only needed to kiss him. She could just take it as a bad dream. After she had psyched herself enough, she walked stiffly towards Christian. Christian did not move as he waited for her kiss. Wendy closed her eyes, and to get it over and done with, she gave a quick peck on his cheek.
"Wendy, how is that even considered a kiss?" Christian touched his cheek with dissatisfaction.
...
"I have already done what you had requested. I hope you will keep your words and let the doctor tend to Zen’s wound." Wendy looked at Christian taciturnly. She was very furious, but she kept her cool.
"Don’t you understand what I just said? I am not satisfied with it," Christian said aloofly.
Wendy did not have her next steps planned. She walked over to Zen and examined her injury closely. In a harsh tone, she said, "Christian, let me repeat myself. Don’t cross my line of tolerance."
Zen’s injury was bleeding nonstop. Wendy walked over to the doctor and reached over for his first aid box. The doctor did not dare to give it to Wendy. He held on to it hesitantly while gazing at Christian to see his reaction. Christian remained silent, so the doctor was in a dilemma.
Wendy snatched the first aid box from the doctor. The doctor was helpless while he continued to look at Christian fearfully. Christian had his arms crossed, and his fingers gently tapped his forearms. He seemed to be pondering something.
"You are not going to try harder to save Zen?" Christian scoffed. "And here I am thinking that you are a kind soul and would do anything to save her. I didn’t think that a kiss would make you give up so easily."
Wendy could tell he was trying to provoke her. While she was helping Zen stop the bleeding, she replied, "Christian, do you think that I am dumb, or do you think that you know me well? You are just trying to test the waters to see where my bottom line is. And I have told you clearly you have crossed my bottom line earlier.
"Zen had betrayed you just once. You shot her in the leg, and now you are letting her die in front of you. She had betrayed me a few times, and yet I have done this much for her. I have gone beyond my means. If she dies here, then I am afraid there is nothing more I could do."
Wendy could not always give in to Christian’s requests unlimitedly. Or else, Christian would keep using Zen to threaten her. In the end, it would only force Wendy into a corner with no room for retaliation. Although she was in Christian’s hands and could not control the situation much, she would put up a fight if necessary to preserve her dignity at the minimum.
Christian stared into Wendy’s eyes as she remained indifferent and did not plead further. His face turned solemn as he stood up suddenly. Christian walked over to Wendy and watched as she took out the supplies from the first aid box hastily.
Seeing that Christian did not say a word after, she turned to the doctor and said sharply, "Come over here!"
The doctor was startled by Wendy’s sudden comment that he jumped. He turned to look at Christian as he was not sure if he should go over.
"I told you to come over, didn’t you hear me?" Wendy said sternly. Her volume was not loud, but she had a commanding tone. The doctor abided and went over. As Christian continued to remain silent, the doctor took it that Christian had given his tacit consent.
Since Christian was standing close by, she shoved him aside, "Get out of the way."
Christian looked a little dejected when he got shoved aside. But soon, he was back to his usual self. He went back to his seat while keeping his eyes constantly on Wendy.
That was the Wendy he knew.
The doctor examined the wounds on Zen and said to Wendy, "This lady had many injuries, but the most critical one is the gunshot wound on her thigh. I will need to extract the bullet from her thigh. If we don’t remove it soon, the wound will get infected. The only thing is I don’t have any anesthesia with me."
