Chapter 586: Wendy, Don’t Go Over

"Between us, it is a constant battle and the strongest survives!" Christian raised his head and stared coldly at Michael. "Yes, Wendy loves you now. I admit I am defeated at the moment. But who is to say for sure, that she would not reciprocate my love in the future? I may be the final winner."

"Defeated at the moment?" Michael sneered coldly. "Christian, you are still fantasizing till now? What gives you your confidence that you are still able to win in this situation?"

"As long as I am still alive, I will not lose!" Christian retorted with conviction.

"Carry on your wistful dreaming!" said Michael.

Christian glanced over to Wendy.

She used to think Christian was just a scheming and malicious person. But after knowing what he had done behind her back, Wendy cringed at his gaze and found it revolting. Her natural instinct was then to shift her gaze somewhere else to avoid eye contact.

"You too find me disgusting?" Christian asked Wendy.

Hearing this, Michael stood in front of Wendy to block Christian’s sight of her.

"Don’t tell me that you think what you’ve done was romantic," Wendy said coldly.

"Hahaha..." Christian let out a laugh when he heard Wendy’s reply. No one knew who the laugh was directed at. It could be him laughing at himself.

"Since the cat is out of the bag now, I might as well just confess." Christian was actually trying to stall for time. He was waiting for his plan to fall into place.

"When I saw Wendy for the first time, I felt you were not worthy of such a woman."

Christian recalled the time when he first met Wendy and said, "I got into MC because, one, I wanted to take over your position, and two, I wanted to get closer to Wendy.

But it is a pity that she wasn’t moved at all after I have done so much for her. At that time, I was not really infatuated with her yet. I merely wanted to disrupt the relationship between you two. I found out about her pregnancy and threatened her to be my assistant. I even lied to her that I could help her leave you. But what she did not know was that I never had the intention to send her away.

I got people to kidnap her and throw her into the sea. Then, I got someone to save her even. She benefited me by earning money for me and she is also my secret weapon to take you down.

Everything went smoothly according to my plan. The only miscalculation I made was that I fell in love with her. How can I, Christian Lucas, possibly fall for a woman? After all, my main objective in this lifetime was to defeat you. Love would only interfere with my progress and slow me down.

So, I got Yvonne to mess with Wendy’s car brakes, but she got lucky. Not only did Wendy not die, but she also fell in love with you all over again, even when she lost her memory. That night was the first time I couldn’t restrain myself from getting drunk and ran into Wendy’s ward. If it wasn’t for that mistake, you would not have gotten more than half of the market shares of DR.

Did you know, Michael? I have actually abandoned everything in Rheinsville City. It was you. It was you who intentionally dragged me back into the game. I worked so hard to be appointed for the tender and then I planned to wash my hands thereafter.

Why did you force me to do this? Now my hands are tainted with all the dirty dealings. I wanted to be a successful businessman. Everything was in line for that.

But you came along and dashed my dreams. It was you, Michael. You forced me into a corner."

"So, you are saying that everything that has happened now was my fault?" Michael scoffed when he heard of Christian’s wrongdoings.

...

"Yes, it is all your fault!" Christian shouted out loud, accusing Michael of being the main culprit for his doings. "You only acknowledged my mom being the mistress who took your father from you. But did you know? I was perceived as an illegitimate child from the day I was born. My mother and Anthony Lucas were a loving pair. Your mother was the one who came into the picture later and broke them up!"

"My mother is Anthony’s legitimate wife. What right does your mother have to come in between them? If Anthony and your mother were a loving couple like you mentioned, why did they involve my mother then?" Michael was agitated whenever they talked about this topic.

"Why, you asked? Don’t you know the reason behind it?" Christian sneered. "It was all because Anthony wanted to make use of your mother’s family background to climb up the corporate ladder. And he did. The MC Enterprise you are managing now is the number one company in Lake City.

We all know for a fact, that our rivalry and sorrow were all caused by Anthony. He is selfish and irresponsible. Here, we are fighting over everything, and he is enjoying his retiree life. Michael, aren’t we pathetic?

Your mother was out of her mind. She sent me to Rheinsville City since I was young.

Do you know how I have lived my teenage years in Rheinsville City? You only knew that I was a drug dealer. But have you ever thought about how I became one in the first place? How many life-and-death situations I have encountered before and how many people have I had to forsake to get to where I am?"

"You really know how to find noble excuses for yourself, huh?" Michael said, "Your grief was always caused by someone else? Christian, you made the choices yourself!

Sending you abroad was for your studies. You went on the wrong path yourself and stepped into the world of drug dealings. How can you blame anyone else for that? 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

You being born as an illegitimate child, there is no way you can be free of that title forever!"

"While you were growing up in a complete family under Lucas’ tender loving care, I was being beaten up by the people sent by your mother." Christian’s eyes were red.

"I will never forget that night when your mother stormed into my apartment with her entourage. They stripped my mother of her clothes and made her crawl like a dog while giving her slaps on her face.

The words coming out of her mouth directed at my mother were crude, like ’b*tch’, ’wretch’, ’jinx’, and such. She even gathered the neighbors to come to watch my mother being humiliated. If it was not for Anthony who came in time, my mother would have been beaten to death. I was only nine years old then.

From that day onwards, I swore to be acknowledged by the Lucas family one day.

We are both Anthony’s sons. How can you be the only one with privileges and yet I am the one who always has to hide in the dark? Michael, I am not going to take this lying down! This is not fair!"

"As humans, we have the right to think and act. No matter how in love Anthony was with your mother since Anthony had taken my mother as his wedded wife, your mother should keep her distance. She was just being greedy and wanted her status.

That was why she convinced Anthony to marry my mother for his future progress and secretly kept in touch with him all along.

Christian, how can you say with such conviction that your mother is the victim here?

You are not innocent, neither is your mother!" Michael commanded.

Christian was about to refute further when his phone rang. At the same time, Michael’s phone rang as well. Both men exchanged glances and quickly answered their phones separately.

The reason why Christian said so much was not that he really wanted to defend himself. He never needed an excuse to do the things he wanted to. And Michael entertained Christian throughout because he wanted to stall for some time too. Now, they need not drag on any further.

...

Even without answering their phones, both of them knew what the phone calls were for.

Indeed, when Michael answered the call, the voice from the other end said, "Mr.

Lucas, Mr. Boyle has brought his reinforcements. Currently, they were in a head-on confrontation with Christian’s people. Mr. Boyle asked about the situation upstairs and if he needed to barge in with his team."

"The safe is at Christian’s apartment. I didn’t bring any reinforcements up here. Tell Mr. Boyle to secure all exits and roads around, don’t let Christian have a chance to escape!"

Michael looked at Christian and said swiftly, "Also, bring a team of people up immediately." He did not want to argue with Christian any longer.

And on the other hand, Christian’s phone call seemed much shorter. There were only three words that Christian needed to hear, "All is ready." Upon hearing that, Christian smirked. His glance towards Michael became piercing and shrewd as he hung up the call.

"Christian, give up and surrender now," Michael said bluntly. "You should know that the Interpol officers already have their eyes on you. The reason why we dragged things out for so long was because of the evidence you have in the safe. Since the safe is in your house, you are not able to get away. If you surrender now and hand over the evidence, there is a chance that they can lighten your sentence."

"Oh really?" Christian gave a cunning smile. "Just how light would the sentence become? Given the charges against me, it could be life imprisonment or at least ten to twenty years of jail term?" Christian’s charges could only lead to a death sentence. He knew for a fact that even if he surrendered, the outcome would be the same.

"We both are very clear about the outcome. If I confess today or not, I would still have to die either way. I have no children so I don’t have to worry about implicating my next generation. So, if you were me, Michael, would you raise the white flag?"

Christian’s smile intensified. In his smile, there was no fear of defeat. Instead, there was a hint of hopefulness.

Michael frowned at his smile, "what are you smiling about?"

"Michael, today will not be the last of our battle." As Christian said this, he shifted his gaze onto Wendy.

Michael stepped in front of Wendy intuitively to block her from Christian’s line of vision.

At the same time, Christian moved swiftly towards Zen. "Michael, Zen has helped you a lot, right? if anything happens to her, I am curious to see if you guys will save her or not?" As he spoke, Christian was already within an arm’s reach from Zen.

Seeing his movements, Wendy rushed towards Zen. Christian was one who was known to be merciless. Wendy could not let anything happen to Zen.

"Wendy, don’t go over..." By the time Michael reacted, Wendy was already in Christian’s hands.

Christian grabbed Wendy by her wrist and pulled so forcefully that Wendy lost her balance and fell backwards. Christian reached over to break her fall. Though he caught Wendy in time, a fruit knife was against Wendy’s neck in the next second.

Christian’s gun was knocked away from him by Michael. The fruit knife was taken from the coffee table earlier.

No one had predicted that Christian would rush towards Zen. But his target had always been Wendy and not Zen. Christian had guessed that Wendy would rush to save Zen. So, when she did, Christian managed to swop the hostage in hand swiftly.

Nobody had seen it coming, including Michael.
