Chapter 573: I Will Live On
The process of persuading Zen went smoothly.
After they finished talking about this matter, Wendy walked towards the door and opened it.
As expected, Mr. and Mrs. Tanner were standing outside the door worriedly.
When Mrs. Tanner saw Wendy open the door, she asked anxiously, "How’s Zen?"
Wendy nodded as she smiled, "Rest assured, Uncle and Auntie. We have already persuaded her. She will not commit suicide again."
Mrs. Tanner nodded her head immediately. She was tearing as she smiled.
As for what Wendy had said to Zen, they did not bother to ask at all.
After all, if they were willing to let them know, they would not chase them out in the first place.
Mr. Tanner then said with despair, "Why are you still crying when Zen has thought it through?"
Even though he said it with contempt, he pulled Mrs. Tanner’s hand and went into the ward together with her anxiously.
When he saw Zen sitting on the bed calmly, he asked, "How do you feel now, Zen?
Let us know if you are not feeling well, okay?"
"Father, Mother..." this was the first time Zen called them after she woke up.
Mr. and Mrs. Tanner were so excited that they nodded their heads vigorously.
"Well then. We will take our leave first. You may contact us should you need any help from us," Michael said as he held onto Wendy’s hand.
Then, they left them some space to have a good talk with each other as a family.
After Wendy left, Mr. and Mrs. Tanner sat by the bed as they hugged each other.
They cried their hearts out while hugging each other tightly.
Zen hugged them so tightly. She then took a deep breath and apologized, "I am sorry, Father. I am sorry, Mother. I am so sorry..." Indeed, she owed them an apology.
The moment she jumped off the car and prepared to die, she did not spare a thought for her parents at all.
She even remained silent and thought of ending her life again after she woke up.
However, that demon, Christian, had no intention to let her die at all.
She had lost her child and she did not bother about herself anymore.
However, she could not let her parents live in fear, just like herself.
She wanted to help Wendy.
At the same time, she was helping herself as well.
"It’s okay. Let’s leave the past behind. Everything will be fine in the future," Mrs.
Tanner comforted Zen while tearing up. "We will all be fine in the future. Don’t ever think of ending your life again, okay?"
...
After Wendy and Michael left the ward, Michael asked Wendy, "Do you think Zen will help us?"
"Yes, she will," Wendy nodded with certainty. "Even if Zen does not care about herself, she will still spare a thought for her parents. At this point, if Zen continues to help Christian, she would be absolutely hopeless. After encountering life and death, I am pretty sure that she knows what is more important in her life now."
"Then, we will wait for Christian to fetch her back then," Michael sighed. Then, he continued, "I hope Christian hides the safe in his house."
"Is there any updates on Christian’s side?" Wendy asked as she turned around to look at him.
"Nothing happened in the past two days. After getting that five hundred million dollar funds, Christian will be busy following up on the project. Therefore, he should not have any activities recently."
Michael then said, "However, the Drug Enforcement Unit is on the watch secretly.
We will be notified as soon as Christian ships the drugs into the country. Now, we will have to wait for Christian to show his true self."
...
Wendy raised her head as she looked at the blue sky of Lake City. It seemed to be a nice day today.
She curled her lips into a smile and said, "Look, Michael. The sky above Lake City is so pretty today."
Michael knew what she meant by that. She was not really referring to the beautiful sky.
"That’s right, and I am pretty sure that it will get better," Michael said as he held onto her hand tightly. He then looked at Wendy who was looking at the sky with joy.
Everything would turn out better gradually for sure.
Zen stayed in the hospital for five days.
For the past five days, Wendy had been bringing food prepared by Zess to visit her.
Zess was such a good cook that everyone praised her cooking.
Wendy opened the container and handed the food to Zen. She then smiled, "This soup is prepared especially for you by Zess. Therefore, you have to finish it."
"All right," Zen smiled as well, "I think I have put on a lot of weight for the past few days."
"Are you blaming Zess for feeding you too much?" Wendy asked.
"No, of course not," Zen shook her head immediately, "I am praising Zess for being such a good cook."
"She will definitely be overjoyed if I tell her about this later," Wendy said as she saw Zen eating her meal happily. Then, she took an apple and started to peel off the skin.
At the same time, the doctor came into the ward to check on Zen. The doctor said, "Ms. Tanner, you are recovering very well. You may discharge after another one to two days of observation."
Zen had been in a coma for nearly one month. In fact, most of her wounds had healed long ago.
The only wound that took a long time to heal was the wound on her heart.
After Wendy had a good chat with her previously, she had already thought it through.
In fact, there was no other option left for her instead of saying that she had thought it through.
She was still under Christian’s control even when she wished to die. Zen did not dare to die anymore.
When Zen was about to say something, Christian’s voice was heard from the door, "Since she has recovered, I don’t think there is a need for her to stay in the hospital for observation anymore."
Christian’s sudden appearance caused the warm atmosphere in the ward to vanish all of a sudden.
Everyone in the ward was caught in a gloomy mood, especially Mr. Tanner.
He walked towards Zen hurriedly and blocked Christian’s gaze on her.
Everybody knew the purpose of Christian’s visit.
"The doctor has already mentioned that she needs to be observed for another one to two days. So, what’s the hurry?" Wendy said coldly as she stared fiercely at Christian.
"Mrs. Lucas..." Christian turned around and looked at Wendy instead. He then said with an evil smile, "The doctor also said that she is recovering well. It happens that I am free today, so I came to pick her up personally. Are you telling me that I have wasted my trip here today?"
"Zen will return to your side when she is fully recovered," Wendy said.
As a matter of fact, it would definitely be better for Zen to return to Christian’s side as soon as possible.
In this case, she would be able to look for the safe as soon as possible.
However, Christian would definitely be suspicious if they agreed to let her return to his side too quickly.
"I am not going to let you take Zen away," Mr. Tanner said with his chin up. He stared at Christian coldly without fear. He just wanted to protect her daughter from the demon. "There is no way that you could take my daughter away today. Over my dead body!"
As soon as Mr. Tanner finished his words, Christian clapped his hands twice.
Suddenly, dozens of bodyguards barged into the ward hurriedly.
Zen was staying in a VIP ward, which was quite big and spacious.
However, when all the bodyguards came into the ward at one time, the room became so crowded all of a sudden.
Mrs. Tanner was so shocked to see such a scene. She approached Zen quickly and cuddled her head in her arms.
She kept Zen’s head in her arms. She did not want her to see such a terrifying scene.
...
"Could you please don’t take Zen away?" Mrs. Tanner said while trembling.
For the past few days, she had been taking care of Zen in the hospital. Although Zen did not tell her anything about Christian and herself, she knew roughly about their matters.
She knew Christian was not a good person. Therefore, how could she let her daughter return to his side?
Furthermore, this man did not love Zen at all.
"I know that you are a man of power and ordinary people like us could not fight against you," Mrs. Tanner tried to persuade Christian. "A man like you could have any woman in the world, but why do you keep pushing us?
I promise you that we will leave Lake City with Zen forever. We will never come back here ever again. We will get out of your sight forever too. Is that okay with you?"
"Auntie..." Christian smiled faintly. "Let’s be reasonable. When Zen was in a coma, you approached me in the first place. You even said that as long as I can save Zen, you will agree to my conditions. Am I right?
Now that Zen has come around, she is recovering well too. Therefore, shouldn’t you fulfil your promise now?"
"But, but..." Mrs. Tanner could only cry at that moment. She did not know what to say at all.
On the contrary, Mr. Tanner seemed to be more direct. He then said harshly, "I don’t care what we have agreed to you. I am not going to let you take her away today! Kill me if you dare!"
Upon hearing the threat from Mr. Tanner, Christian could not help but laugh out loud.
Christian smiled as he shook his head. Then, he said to Wendy, "Mrs. Lucas, it seems that Uncle and Auntie are so thoughtless. I believe that you are a reasonable person.
So tell me, should you fulfil your promise on the conditions you agreed with me earlier on?"
Before Wendy could answer him, Christian continued to say in a threatening tone, "Also, Uncle kept asking me to kill him. I bet you heard it, right?
If I lost control all of a sudden, I hope that you will be my witness.
But of course, I am not going to kill anyone in front of you. But I can’t guarantee what will happen next if I’m not dead.
You know that I did not bring them here for fun, right?"
Wendy knew Christian’s character very well.
He did not care about anyone else. He showed no respect to any elders like Mr. and Mrs. Tanner too.
When Wendy was about to say something, Zen spoke.
She broke free from Mrs. Tanner’s embrace and looked at Christian coldly. She then said in a calm tone as if it had nothing to do with her, "I will leave with him."
"What are you talking about, Zen? Don’t worry! We will protect you. So what if he is Christian Lucas? If you are not willing to leave with him, he could not take you anywhere at all," Mr. Tanner said seriously. He knew that there was no way for him to deal with Christian, but it was his responsibility, he had an obligation to protect Zen.
He was unable to protect her in the first place that he almost lost her.
"Thank you, Father. Thank you, Mother," Zen said as she got off the bed.
She took a glance at the unfinished food on the table and said to Wendy, "Thank you too, Wendy."
"Zen..." Mrs. Tanner burst into tears upon hearing what Zen said.
She knew that Zen would suffer a miserable life if she returned to Christian’s side.
She was so afraid that something would happen to Zen again.
"Zen, please listen to us. Don’t go back with him." Mrs. Tanner tried to pull her back.
However, Zen just smiled as she shook her head. She broke free from Mrs. Tanner’s hand and said calmly, "Father, Mother... Rest assured. I will not commit suicide again. I will live on."
