Chapter 478: I Thought That You Didn’t Want Me Anymore

Wendy slept all the way into the afternoon. She moved unconsciously, only to feel that her whole body was aching terribly. She regained her senses as images of last night flashed through her mind, jolting her wide awake.

She opened her eyes and looked beside her. There was no one else on the bed except for her. Wendy blew a small sigh of relief. What happened last night was still fresh in her mind. Her face flushed.

Michael had said that he would use his body to let her know what he thought.

Wendy had originally thought that Michael was just kidding, that he had only said that to make her stay. Who would have thought that he would actually tire her out?

Wendy touched her blushing face subconsciously as she slowly breathed out. She looked around the room, but didn’t see Michael. She frowned slightly. Where had Michael gone?

He couldn’t possibly have left after sleeping with her right? Wendy felt a little uneasy at the thought. She knew that Michael had done all this just to make her stay, so that she couldn’t run away on her own. She still felt a little scared, deep in her heart.

What if Michael had regretted his decision?

Just as Wendy’s thoughts were running wild, light footsteps could be heard from outside the room. The door opened softly.

Michael seemed to have been afraid of disturbing Wendy’s sleep so he was trying to be as quiet as possible.

As the door swung wide open, Michael and Wendy looked at each other. At that moment, both of them stood rooted to the ground.

Wendy coughed softly before lowering her head awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

Seeing how shy Wendy was, Michael chuckled. "You’re up? I’ve already reheated lunch quite a few times. If you’re having a quick wash-up, I can prepare more food."

"I..." Wendy felt a little awkward as she still didn’t know what to say.

She had indeed slept for a really long time. But whose fault was it? It was all because of Michael.

Seeing that Wendy didn’t move, Michael walked towards her and sat them on the bed before reaching out to hug her as he teased, "What’s wrong? We’ve already been married for so long and you’re still shy?"

It was fine before Michael had said that but now, Wendy flushed all the way down her neck.

Wendy pushed Michael away gently. "And whose fault is that?"

"Why is it my fault?" Michael asked in return. "It’s a normal thing for married couples to do... On the other hand, why are you so shy? Last night you..."

"Stop talking." Wendy reached out to cover Michael’s mouth. She was too embarrassed to hear what he was saying and she was afraid that he would spill morthings.

Michael took the chance to kiss Wendy’s palm.

Wendy lowered her flushed face when she felt the tingly feeling of Michael’s kisses on her palm. "I’m hungry, I want to eat something."

"What kind of hunger do you have?" Michael smirked purposefully.

"Why are you so dirty-minded..." Wendy tried to look upset.

She stood up from Michael’s embrace, and donned the jacket hanging at the side before saying, "Didn’t you say that you were going to make more food? Quick, I’m starving."

"Yes, madam!" Michael stood up and saluted Wendy, acting as though he was an obedient husband.

Wendy made a quick exit into the bathroom to wash up. She closed the door upon entering the bathroom and leaned against it, taking a deep breath.

....

After speaking with Michael, Wendy’s thoughts became clearer. Not only did Michael not despise her, he was even treating her well. He woke up early to make food for her?

It would be a lie to say that she didn’t feel touched.

Wendy had always thought that Michael would mind what had happened, and that he would have unpleasant feelings towards it. Looks like she had underestimated her position in Michael’s heart.

But because of this, Wendy felt even more guilty. Michael loved her so much and yet, she had allowed herself to sink into such a situation. It was precisely because he loved her that the Clement incident had probably affected him a lot.

But Michael had chosen to suppress all those emotions because he loved her, even pretending like nothing had happened, choosing to comfort Wendy instead.

How deep must his love be for him to do this?

Wendy had never thought that there would really be a man who wouldn’t care that his wife had been ’tainted’. Even if they tolerated it because of love, there must definitely be a needle poking at them.

That was why Wendy had wanted to leave Michael. She had initiated it, thinking that it would be difficult for Michael to break up with her because of his responsibilities.

Even when Michael was trying to make her stay, she’d assumed that it was due to Michael’s strong sense of duty.

Taking a deep breath, Wendy closed her eyes.

She told herself silently that she had to love Michael properly in the future. She had to love Michael more.

Afterwards, she stood in front of the basin and looked at herself in the mirror. She smiled at her reflection and said, "Wendy Stewart, everything will get better. Cheer up."

Then she started washing up. When she came out of the bathroom, the mouthwatering smell of food wafted past her nose. Although Michael didn’t cook often, his cooking still tasted pretty good.

Wendy looked at Michael’s busy figure in the kitchen, her expression gentling.

Michael was an extremely capable man indeed; not only was he good at doing business, he could also cook for her at home.

Wendy felt extremely blissful at that moment.

Suddenly, she had the thought of teasing Michael. She walked into the study room, looking around and then hiding behind the door.

She wanted to see Michael’s reaction upon finding out that she had left. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Soon after, Michael called out, "Time to eat..."

Michael brought the last dish out and put it on the table. He looked around, but he didn’t see any sign of Wendy.

Michael frowned slightly before turning and heading to the bathroom. "Time to eat, Wendy."

Michael didn’t see Wendy in the bathroom either.

He started to panic as he quickly walked to the bedroom. While he was making his way there, he called out worriedly, "Wendy... Wendy..."

Again, there was nobody in the bedroom as well.

"Damn it!" Michael immediately took off his apron and searched for his cellphone.

He immediately called Mr. York and anxiously instructed, "Take note of the people entering and leaving the hotel. See if Wendy has left."

Michael didn’t even bother to gather his things before running out.

Wendy could hear Michael’s voice but she didn’t answer him. She only exited the study room when she heard him calling Mr. York. But by the time she came out, Michael was not in the room anymore.

The main door was wide open.

Wendy immediately gave chase but it was too late; the elevator doors had already closed.

"Damn it..." Now it was Wendy’s turn to cuss.

....

Wendy had only wanted to play a joke on Michael. She hadn’t expected him to just run out immediately! Although she hadn’t seen what Michael had been like just now, she could imagine that he was very anxious.

Michael had surely thought that she had left.

Wendy realized that this joke had gone too far so she immediately ran downstairs to chase after Michael.

Michael ran down as quickly as possible and upon seeing Mr. York, he asked, "Did you see Wendy head out?"

Mr. York shook his head and said, "She didn’t leave from the main entrance."

"What about the back?" Michael asked, "And other entrances?"

"I don’t know..." Upon seeing Michael’s reddened eyes and his face full of worry and anger, Mr. York explained, "She’s been with you the whole time and you didn’t ask me to surround the hotel, so I..."

"So you don’t have to keep a lookout just because she was with me?" Michael shouted. "Didn’t she leave under my watch yesterday as well? Mr. York, are you stupid? Do you only do what I ask you to do?"

"I..." Mr. York didn’t know what to do.

Michael and Wendy had stayed at a hotel, so Mr. York couldn’t have it surrounded.

If he’d brought a hundred bodyguards to watch the hotel, the hotel security would not allow it. They probably would have called the police.

Mr. York also hadn’t expected that Michael wouldn’t be able to handle Wendy, even after bringing her to the hotel.

When had their boss become so incompetent?

Of course, Mr. York didn’t dare to say that out loud. He could only keep silent and let Michael scold him.

"Why are you still standing here? Quickly contact the hotel staff and ask for the security footage!" Michael bellowed.

"Alright." Mr. York immediately nodded and turned around to do so.

Michael was panicking terribly as his hands couldn’t stop shaking.

Everything was going well right after Wendy had woken up.

She hadn’t said that she’d wanted to leave just now and had even gone to wash up.

Michael raised his hand and slapped himself harshly as he said, "Michael, you’re so useless! You can’t even watch over a person!"

He shouldn’t have gone to make food just now.

He should have watched Wendy, or at least paid more attention to her and her whereabouts.

Could he even find her this time?

This wasn’t Lake City. If Wendy made up her mind to leave him, what could he do?

After taking a deep breath, Michael’s whole body was still shaking. He was extremely terrified at the moment.

"Michael..." Wendy followed Michael down and saw him standing at the hotel’s entrance, his lonely shadow lengthened by the sun.

Michael turned around upon hearing Wendy’s voice. When he saw Wendy standing in front of him, he was taken aback for a moment.

Was that Wendy Stewart? Did she really not leave?

Michael blinked a few times, afraid that he was just hallucinating. After confirming that Wendy was still standing in front of him, he quickly ran over and hugged her tightly.

Michael rested his head on Wendy’s shoulder, his whole body bent as he hugged Wendy tightly. It was as though she would disappear if he hugged her any gentler.

"Where did you go, Wendy? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you know how terrified and worried I was? I thought that you didn’t want me anymore and that you wouldn’t return ever again." The more Michael spoke, the more he choked up he sounded as his voice shook.
