Chapter 47: Position Change

Wendy did not expect Michael to personally request that the kitchen staff cook porridge for her. He even waited until her food was delivered before eating his own meal so they could eat together. She could not help but feel that there was something strange about Michael’s attitude toward her.

However, there was no way that she Would ever believe that Michael had fallen in love with her. After all, how could a man who had hated her for three years possibly fall in love with her all of a sudden within two months?

More importantly, he was still romantically involved with Yvonne. Wendy was more willing to believe that Michael was doing all this to get back at Christian, just like how Christian had asked her to be his assistant for the same purpose.

Michael remained busy in the afternoon. However, he specifically instructed Wendy, "Make sure to finalize your job transfer application when you have time today. Now that everyone in the company knows that you’re my wife, it’s inappropriate for you to still be the vice-presiIdent’s personal assistant on paper."

At the mention of this topic, Wendy mustered her courage and said, "Are you still intending to fulfill what you promised me yesterday?"

Michael went silent for a moment before nodding. "You can see to it personally."

This was a tacit acknowledgment of the authority that he had granted Wendy to deal with this matter. Wendy decided not to go easy on Yvonne. She deliberately went down to the HR department where Quinnly Zara had already resigned from her position. When the new manager saw Wendy, she immediately greeted her with a wide smile and said, "Mrs. Lucas, why did you come down here personally? You could have just called for me."

Wendy felt very uncomfortable being addressed in this manner. Frowning, she replied, "You can just call me Miss Stewart."

"Alright, Mrs. Lucas..." The manager blurted, then immediately slapped herself and corrected her mistake. ’I mean, Miss Stewart."

"I have two things to ask of you," said Wendy.

"Please go on."

"Please help me process my job transfer application, as I’m now working for the president again," said Wendy with a smile on her face.

"Noted, Miss Stewart, I’ll get to it immediately," replied the manager. With that, she went to print the documents personally. After preparing the relevant documents, the manager handed them to Wendy. Smiling, she said, "Please sign here, and here. Leave your thumbprint on the last page."

Wendy did as directed.

"Okay, Miss Stewart, I’ll send a memo to the entire company later informing them of your change in position," said the manager. "What other thing do you need me to help with?"

"Miss Yvonne Taylor, the president’s previous assistant, will be fired immediately."

When the manager heard this, her smile froze. Even though Wendy was the rightful Mrs. Lucas, Yvonne had been Michael’s girlfriend for so many years. If she really did fire Yvonne and Michael decided to go after her for that, she would be in deep trouble for that. After all, the company’s employees were still unclear of the exact relationship dynamics between Wendy, Yvonne, and Michael. Even though Wendy was Michael’s wife, everyone knew that he often treated her poorly. Nobody knew what Michael really thought.

"Are you doubting me?" asked Wendy with a frown. Her gaze was authoritative and intimidating. Knowing exactly what was going through the manager’s mind, she added, "The president has agreed to this matter. I’ll bear all consequences." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Now, all the manager could do was agree with a nod. However, she thought of withholding news of Yvonne’s termination first and waiting until she had gotten the president’s confirmation.

However, Wendy managed to guess what she was thinking. She deliberately said, "I want you to send the memo about my change in position and Yvonne’s termination at the same time."

No matter what Wendy said, she was still the president’s wife. The HR manager did not dare to disobey her instructions. She had to outwardly agree to her request with a smile Wendy was usually not so dominant about other matters. However, she refused to relent when it came to anything related to Yvonne.

After all, Yvonne had bullied her by making her take the fall for all kinds of things over the past few years. Wendy thought that merely terminating Yvonne’s employment within the company was already letting her off easy.

After the job transfer application was successfully processed, Wendy returned to the 66th floor.

It was 3 P.M., and Wendy fell back into her old habits of preparing fresh fruits for Michael. She personally decorated the fruit platter and brought it into the president’s office. The moment she entered, she heard Michael on the phone.

"I did agree to it. You can just do what Miss Stewart has instructed you," said Michael. With that, he hung up.

Wendy placed the fruit platter before Michael. Even though she did not hear the earlier part of the conversation, his closing statement was sufficient for her to guess that the HR manager had called to confirm Michael’s permission for Wendy’s request. Inexplicably, a wave of anger surged through her chest.

When she spoke, her tone was slightly aggressive. "It seems that Miss Taylor is well-loved in this company." Everyone in the company knew that Wendy was the rightful Mrs. Lucas, but even the HR manager had to consult the president about her instructions to terminate Yvonne, who was a mere assistant.

Michael raised his eyebrows and replied honestly, "Everyone in the company has treated her as my girlfriend for four years. The truth about your status as my wife came out so suddenly, it’s only natural that they felt the need to ask for my opinions."

"I didn’t say otherwise," said Wendy, still using an unpleasant tone. "Everyone knows that Yvonne is your beloved sweetheart, and even though lm your wife, I’m just like a decorative vase."

"Wendy Stewart, are you jealous?" Michael gazed at the furious woman standing before him with interest in his eyes.

Wendy often got jealous in the past, but she had never dared to make a display of it. Even when Michael and Yvonne behaved affectionately in front of her, she could only force herself to endure it. For some reason, Michael felt a trace of happiness hearing what he thought she had said in a fit of jealousy.

Wendy, on the other hand, laughed out loud when Michael asked her that question. Her tone grew lighter. "Jealous? It doesn’t matter whether I’m jealous, you never cared anyway."

With that, she turned her back to Michael and continued, "I’ll be heading back to my office now. Please let me know if there’s anything you need."

Michael’s smile deepened as he watched Wendy’s leave. He picked up the fork and put a piece of pineapple in his mouth. His expression was extremely gentle.

With Michael’s confirmation, the HR department immediately sent out a memo regarding Wendy’s change in position and Yvonne’s termination. Within an instant, the company group chat started buzzing with messages.

After all, Yvonne, who had been Michael’s girlfriend for the past four years, had been fired after the revelation of Wendy’s identity as his wife. In the past, Wendy endured terrible bullying, but now the president appeared to favor her immensely. Now, the situation had become even more unclear for the outsiders.

In reality, it was perfectly normal for a man like Michael to have both a wife and a mistress.

However, for the sake of his wife, whose status had always remained a secret, Michael had fired the woman that he used to dote on constantly.

Everyone felt that there was something weird about this. There were many gossipmongers in the company. Privately, they started discussing the many drama-filled happenings centered around Michael and his family. In the end, they came up with the two most probable conclusions.

Since Michael’s married status had been revealed to the public, he had no choice but to make Yvonne, who had always brazenly announced herself to be his girlfriend, his secret lover instead. This was so that he could protect his personal reputation and the companies. As an affluent man, his reputation was much more important than his girlfriend’s.

If not that, perhaps Michael always had a good marriage with Wendy, but since there were often many scandals and issues inevitably tied to members of wealthy families, Michael pretended to bully Wendy at the company to protect her. His decision to fake his relationship with Yvonne allowed Yvonne to become the target in the public’s eye instead.

Now that his secret marriage was exposed anyway, Yvonne’s role had become redundant.

Naturally, Wendy did not see these messages.

They were sent within a private group chat that she was not included in.

....

Yvonne had smashed her phone in a moment of rage a few days ago. However, she had asked someone to buy her a new phone because she felt bored and wanted to surf the internet. She inadvertently stumbled upon the company’s two update memos. Feeling curious about the topic of the first memo, Yvonne decided to open it.

After reading the full notice, the look in her eyes turned malicious. She gripped her phone tightly, veins bulging in her hands. She said, "Wendy Stewart, how dare you go back to working for Michael. Who do you think you are? Michael is mine!"

Yvonne suddenly had a bad premonition about the second memo. She felt rather apprehensive about reading it. However, she still opened it. Her gut feeling had been right after all, because it was her name in the memo about the termination of an employee. Unable to control her temper, she ended up smashing her new phone, too.

"Ah!" Yvonne started throwing the things on her bed onto the ground as well. She screamed like a lunatic, "Wendy Stewart, you sl*t! How dare you take over my position when I’m in the hospital, and how dare you fire me too?! Who do you think you are?"

A nurse passing by her room heard the commotion and immediately rushed in to check on the situation. When she saw Yvonne throwing things around her room with bloodshot eyes, she immediately called for help. "Someone, please help me..."

Yvonne threw a mug at the nurse’s feet. She hollered, "Shut up"

She knew that Michael did not like seeing her like this. If he found out about it, he would start to hate her. Feeling frightened, the nurse went silent. Yvonne’s entire body was trembling in rage. Pointing at the nurse, she said, "I’ll give you money to clean up the mess in this room. Don’t tell anybody about this."

The nurse was shocked by Yvonne’s behavior.

Even though she was afraid that Yvonne might do something to her, the monetary offer proved too tempting for her. She nodded compliantly.

After cleaning up the mess in the room, Yvonne instructed the nurse to buy her a new phone.

When the new phone arrived, Yvonne transferred her old SIM card into her new phone As Michael sorted through his documents, he raised his mug for some water. It was half filled.

He took one big mouthful, then paused momentarily when the water ran out. Then, he dialed Wendy’s office line and instructed her coldly, "My mug is empty."

Wendy acknowledged him and immediately went over to refill his mug. After doing so, she. placed it in an area that was convenient for him to reach. She had just set the mug down when she heard Michael’s phone ring. As his phone was on the desk, Wendy caught a glance at the screen. It was Yvonne calling.

Michael glanced at the phone too but did not answer.

Wendy frowned. She did not leave the office.

She wanted to hear what Michael would say to Yvonne. It was obvious that Yvonne’s call was related to her termination from this company.

When Michael noticed Wendy lingering, he immediately figured out what she had in mind. He looked up at her and said, "Are you waiting for me to answer her call?"

Wendy refused to admit it. She shrugged her shoulders and replied, "No, it has nothing to do with me."

With that, she turned around to leave.

She made her pace as slow as possible.

The moment she stepped out of the door, Michael answered the call. However, Wendy could not hear the conversation that transpired.
