Chapter 421: Maybe, It’s Due To Recent Stress
"I just wanted her to explain about the phone call recording and what happened but she is refusing to explain herself." Timothy had no other evidence and hence couldn’t report her to the police. He had initially just wanted to scare Wendy. Hence, he decided to take a step back and replied, "It’s not so serious that we have to report to the police. I just wanted to understand the situation better, that’s all."
"Mentor, your words just now does not seem to be so." Wendy coldly said, "I don’t think I’m dumb to the point whereby I can’t discern how serious this situation is."
Todd had just arrived and did not fully grasp the situation.
He reached out to help Wendy to sit up and with his back facing Timothy and Rosa, he asked, "Mentor wanted you to explain yourself so just explain. This will stop him from suspecting you too."
His words seem to be for Timothy to hear.
With that, he silently mouthed out to Wendy, "What happened?"
As his back was facing Timothy and Rosa, they couldn’t see what he had mouthed out silently.
When Todd was helping her up, Wendy took the chance to reach out for his hand and hid her head behind his body.
When Timothy was not looking, she mouthed back, "The text message."
Todd understood what Wendy meant.
He helped Wendy up so that she was leaning on the bedrest before releasing her hands. He then stood up straight and turned around to look at Timothy.
"Todd, you understand me right? I was just trying to piece the whole situation."
Timothy argued and tried to persuade.
"I know mentor." Todd nodded his head and sighed out loud, asking, "Then mentor, other than the phone call records, what else did you find out?"
"Nothing, I just saw the phone call records. I didn’t manage to check on other things." Timothy replied.
Todd raised his hands and asked, "This is Corrine’s phone right? Can I have a look?"
Timothy hesitated for a moment before handing the phone over to Todd..
In reality, he was slightly worried that Todd would take the chance to delete any important evidence.
Now, he felt that he couldn’t trust Todd too.
Thus, after handing over the phone to Todd, Timothy silently stood by Todd’s side.
He wanted to ensure that he could see whatever Todd was doing.
Timothy’s intentions were of course obvious to Todd.
Wendy had mouthed to him ’text message’ and he knew it meant for him to flip through her messages.
However, if he immediately went to check on the messages, it seemed too intentional.
Hence, in front of Timothy, Todd first flipped open her contacts list before going over to her chats.
He even specially typed out Michael’s name in her chats but couldn’t find anything.
Even trying ’ex-husband’ or ’jerk’ did not produce any results.
He then went over her messages.
He slowly flipped through the messages and noticed a message from an unsaved number.
Timothy glanced at the number and said, "That is Michael’s number."
Todd heard him and clicked in to read.
The first message was from Michael. It said, "I miss Leah and _, I’m okay if you don’t pick up my calls but please let me talk to my children."
Wendy did not reply.
This message was sent ten days ago.
The second message was sent by Michael again. It read, "Wendy, don’t go too far!"
This message was also sent ten days ago.
The third message was from Wendy to Michael. It said, "Michael! How dare you snatch away HG’s client. The incident over at HG is it your doing? You better not let me find any evidence, if not I won’t forgive you!"
...
This message was sent two days ago.
It was also when Michael had snatched away one of HG’s client.
That day, Wendy found out about this and had confronted Michael about it.
Of course, Michael did not reply to her message.
After browsing through her messages, Todd flipped through her call records.
The phone call record was about half an hour after the message was sent.
Todd looked over at Timothy and said, "Seems like Corrine had sent the message to Michael but seeing how he didn’t reply to her, she called him to ask."
"This..." Timothy was shocked for a moment and didn’t know what to say.
His mouth gaped open as he stared at Wendy. Words had formed in his head but he found himself unable to speak.
Todd asked Wendy, "Corrine, you called Michael to confront him about snatching away HG’s client right?"
"I want to say yes but I know some people won’t believe me." Wendy chucked and said, "I already said that I called Michael and it ended in an argument but no one believed me. So is it really important for me to explain myself?"
Rosa heard this and knew it was all just a misunderstanding. She heaved a sigh of relief.
She walked over to Timothy and reached out to slap him hard on the back, "I told you already that Corrine would never betray HG. In the past, you suspected Todd and it ended up like this. Now, you’re suspecting your only other apprentice.
Timothy, if you can’t even trust your apprentices whom you’ve taught for so many years, who else can you trust? Will your next target be me?"
"I..." Timothy remained speechless.
"What... I... Hurry up and apologise now!" Rosa purposefully took on a harsher tone and said, "You’ve wronged Corrine, you got to apologise to her now!"
"I..." Timothy felt confused. From the messages and call records on the phone, it seems like he really did misjudged the situation.
Now, he didn’t know whether to continue to suspect Wendy or to believe in her.
However, without any evidence and being shown right in his face that he was wrong, he had to still apologise.
He looked over to Wendy and lowered his head slightly. "Corrine, I’m so sorry. I misunderstood you."
Wendy raised her hands and shook her head, saying, "No need. Anyways, it’s not the first time you’ve suspected me. I don’t think this will be the last also."
Wendy then turned her head towards Todd and said, "Please help me send them out, I’m exhausted and want to rest."
"Timothy, Rosa..." Todd obediently followed Wendy’s words and gestured them out.
Timothy knew it would be awkward if he stayed and thought leaving would be better.
Hence, he hurriedly turned around and left without hesitating.
Before leaving, he courteously told Wendy to take care and have a smooth recovery.Rosa had initially wanted to talk on behalf of Timothy but seeing how Todd also gestured for her to leave, she smiled and said, "We won’t disturb you any further, have a good rest and I’ll visit you tomorrow."
After they left, Wendy closed her eyes shut and heaved a sigh of relief.
"What happened?" Todd walked over to the door and reached out to close it before walking over to sit by her bedside. He reached out to help Wendy pinch the quilt.
"I knew that Timothy would check my phone." Wendy said, "Nowadays, phones are way too important to people. There are too many confidential and private things inside. Since Timothy suspects me, he will definitely check on my phone or computer. Hence, I prepared things early."
"You really did prepare thoroughly." Todd smiled and sighed. With his eyes full of worry, he asked, "How are you feeling? What did the doctor say?"
"Nothing too serious, don’t worry okay!" Wendy smiled faintly and replied.
...
After Timothy and Rosa left the hospital ward, they walked one after the other.
Timothy’s mind was in a mess.
He had initially thought that after discovering the phone call record of Wendy and Michael, it would be credible evidence.
However, never would he have expected Wendy to have gotten into an argument with Michael.
Those few messages were real though.
But deep down, Timothy still felt that things weren’t so simple.
Filled with suspicion and confusion, he walked straight ahead, forgetting about Rosa who had followed behind.
Rosa was furious. She called out to him several times but had gotten no response from him.
Rosa walked ahead and angrily reached out to grab onto Timothy’s arm. She asked, "I’m calling you, why did you ignore me? Do you not even have basic respect for me now?"
Timothy shook himself out of his daze and slowed down his pace. He turned around and stared at his wife with a smile. He asked, "What’s wrong?"
"You’re still asking me what’s wrong?" Rosa huffed out in anger. In a stern voice, she asked, "Timothy, what is wrong with you? Why do you keep having suspicions of Corrine? I don’t understand this! You even went to the extent of checking on Corrine’s phone. Do you know that is an invasion of privacy and it’s an illegal thing to do? If Corrine were to pursue this incident, she can easily report you to the police.
Why did you become like this? You weren’t like this in the past. Last time, you truly trusted your apprentices, be it Todd or Corrine, you trusted them."
"I..." He couldn’t share some things with Rosa.
He was now already in this deep with Christian. He can’t turn back now.
However, Corrine is still clean.
As long as she is not aware of this and doesn’t participate, she won’t be affected.
Hence, Timothy took a deep breath before forcing out a smile, "Maybe, it’s due to the recent stress."
"I know you’re very stressed these days, but you can’t lash out like this on others.
Corrine is really trying her best to help HG through these difficult times, don’t disappoint her." Rosa stared at Timothy’s face and softened. She sighed and reached out to pat him on his shoulder, saying, "When Corrine’s anger has dissipated, let’s go apologise to her once more. Corrine should be understanding."
"Okays, I will do so." Timothy nodded his head.
His suspicions were just suspicions. Without concrete evidence, Timothy felt like he couldn’t give up.
HG had many things that needed Corrine to handle.
Also, after what happened today, Timothy felt that he indeed needed to explain himself to Wendy.
Seeing how agreeable Timothy was, Rosa stopped nagging him.
She silently sighed and flipped out her phone.
As she was dialling Zess’ number, she said, "Let me just inform Zess and get her to send some soup over to the hospital."
The doctor had said that Wendy would need to eat some food when she regained consciousness.
Initially, Rosa had thought that by the time Zess had finished preparing a proper meal, Wendy would have naturally woken up.
She never expected Wendy to be woken up by Timothy.
The call connected quickly. Zess had recognised Rosa’s number and smiled while saying, "Hi Ms. Perrie."
"I need to let you know something. Corrine is now in the hospital. If it is convenient for you, can you help to make some soup and dishes that Corrine likes and send them to the hospital?" Rosa asked. "Corrine really likes meals prepared by you."
"You’re saying Wendy is in the hospital now? What happened to her?" Zess subconsciously gripped onto her phone tightly, her voice fraught with worry.
...
"It’s nothing serious. Don’t worry." Rosa simply replied, "She is awake now."
"That’s good." Zess heaved a sigh of relief and thanked her.
The call was hung up quickly and Zess turned around to prepare the dishes in the kitchen.
However, she never expected to see Leah and Jake when she turned around.
"Auntie Zess, did you guys just say that mummy is in the hospital?" Leah pouted and wailed out loud, "What happened to mummy?"
Jake saw his sister cry and reached out to hold her hand.
He held onto her hand tightly and comforted her.
"Your mummy is alright, I just received a call from Secretary Rosa. She informed that your mummy is already awake." Zess informed them and said, "I’m going to boil some soup now for her."
"Can Jake and I go visit her?" Leah raised her hands to wipe her tears as she choked, "I want to see mummy."
Zess pondered for a moment. Rosa did not say they couldn’t bring the kids over and hence she nodded her head and agreed, "Okay, we can go together."
Leah sniffled and her cries turned soft.
Zess quickly prepared the dishes and placed them in a proper container.
She then brought the two children over to the hospital.
At this moment, Wendy and Todd were in the hospital, quietly discussing on how to settle the issue over at HG.
Todd said, "I think Timothy was proven wrong today, he won’t suspect you any further. We can relax slightly."
Wendy however thought otherwise. She shook her head and said, "No, Timothy’s suspicion of me is very deep. He won’t be convinced purely by several text messages. However, he won’t do too much. At least, he won’t outrightly accuse me, but we still need to be careful. Also, if I’m not wrong, he would be coming by in the next few days to apologise."
After suspecting someone, proven wrong and then apologising is something that had happened many times before for Timothy.
Every single time, Wendy had successfully managed to dismiss his suspicions.
"Based on what you told me just now, this time it’s truly difficult for HG to overcome this issue." Todd’s face turned conflicted as he said, "Wait..."
Todd then stopped midway.
He didn’t continue his sentence.
He had initially wanted to ask if HG had collapsed, would Wendy return to Lake City.
However, he didn’t dare to utter this question.
That is because he was afraid that she would give him confirmation.
Wendy and Michael had already reconciled and after this issue, she would definitely return.
Thinking of this, Todd’s gaze turned down.
Wendy didn’t ask Todd what he wanted to say.
She was afraid that it would be something awkward.
The atmosphere suddenly turned tense.
Not long after, there was a knock on the door, breaking their silence.
"Let me see who it is." Todd had closed the door just now when Timothy and Rosa left.
Standing up, he walked over to the door and opened up. He saw Zess and the two kids standing at the entrance.
"Uncle Todd, is mummy inside?" Leah had worry all over her face and her eyes were slightly swollen and red, making it obvious she had cried.
Todd reached out to carry Leah and said, "Yes, she is here."
Hugging Leah, he brought her in and when Leah saw Wendy, she quickly tried to escape Todd’s embrace in order to run over to Wendy.
She ran quickly to Wendy’s side and held onto Wendy’s hand tightly. She asked, "Mummy, are you okay?"
"Mummy is alright." Wendy used her hand to caress Leah’s head and smiled gently at her.
Seeing her two children, Wendy felt that all her exhaustion and worries had disappeared.
