Chapter 390: Hold On To Me

"Ms. Swift, please let him know yourself." The person who made the call, already smiling and walking back, handed his phone to Wendy.

Wendy didn’t want to pick it up, so the person put Christian on speaker. The airport was a bit noisy, but she was close enough to hear the phone.

Of course, Wendy didn’t take the initiative to speak, it was Christian who spoke first, "Ms. Swift, they were indeed sent by me to greet you. I have arranged everything, and the only thing you need to do is to follow them."

"Sorry, we have arranged everything ourselves already," Wendy said.

"Please don’t be too polite to me. After all, we are all old friends." Christian said it in a very friendly way, but he obviously didn’t mean to give in. "I am quite busy today and have to go now, see you tonight." Christian hung up the phone.

The leading person smiled and said, "Ms. Swift, Mr. Lewis, please come this way."

The people who came to pick them up slightly nodded and gestured.

Wendy and Todd looked at each other again. They both knew that they had no choice but to go with Christian’s people. This way, Christian couldn’t do anything to them.

Following them into the car, Wendy and Todd sat in the back.

Todd asked Wendy in a low voice, "What the hell is Christian doing? Spending the time and energy to pick us up?"

Wendy shook her head, she didn’t know either.

Christian should be very busy today. How could he actually spare time and energy to take care of them?

"But at least we don’t have to worry about safety issues. Christian sent so many people to pick us up from the airport. Plus, this is on the very day of the press conference, so if anything happens to us, he would be involved as well." Todd comforted Wendy.

Wendy nodded, "Yeah."

The car quickly drove to a five-star hotel.

After getting off, the leading person stood next to Wendy, smiling, "Ms. Swift, Mr.

Lewis, tonight’s press conference is in the hotel next to this one." The man pointed to the left and continued, "It should be directly visible. Mr. Lucas also arranged a great stylist to do the makeup and dressing for you. The two of you don’t have to worry about anything today."

"Mr. Lucas is indeed very thoughtful." Wendy sneered, "Please thank him for me."

"Of course." The man smiled and nodded, obviously not taking Wendy’s sneer to heart.

He didn’t dare to take it seriously anyway.

"This is your room card..." The man handed the card respectfully to Wendy and said, "It’s ready for you to go in now. The stylist will come in later. Feel free to take a shower and have a rest. We’ll always be outside, so please let us know whenever you need us."

Wendy looked at the room card in her hand and frowned, "Only one room card?"

"Mr. Lucas arranged a presidential suite for you, so it should be enough for the two of you," the man replied.

Wendy frowned deeper.

Todd smiled and said, "It surely will be, we’ll take a look now." Todd picked up the room card and walked towards the room with Wendy.

After walking a little farther, he whispered, "We are a couple in the public’s eyes, so it would not be appropriate to ask for two rooms."

Wendy knew that Todd was right, but the fact that Christian specially arranged for them to live in a room somehow made Wendy feel a little bit uncomfortable.

This Christian! No one knew what he wanted to do.

Ding! Todd opened the door with the room card.

....

The presidential suite had only one bedroom and only one bathroom. Wendy gave Todd an awkward look and said, "You go take a shower first."

Todd didn’t say no to that, he hummed, opened the suitcase, and took out the toiletries.

While Todd showered, Wendy went to the office area and took out her laptop. After flying for so long, she now needed to deal with some work. As soon as she opened her mailbox, Wendy saw several work emails. After she responded to the emails one by one, she took out her phone.

It should be early morning in Rheinsville City so Wendy did not call but sent a message to Timothy and Zess that she had arrived in Lake City.

"I’m done, your turn now." Todd took the towel and wiped his hair. Wendy nodded, closed the computer, got up, and picked up her toiletries to take a bath.

The stylist came sometime after four o’clock in the afternoon.

"Good afternoon, Ms. Swift, Mr. Lewis, I am your stylist today, you can call me Kevin." He introduced himself politely with a smile.

Wendy replied lightly and said thanks.

This was a person sent by Christian, after all, so Wendy couldn’t help but be a bit impolite. But she had to admit that Kevin’s level of styling was really good.

Two hours later, Wendy looked at herself in the mirror and nodded with satisfaction.

Kevin looked at Wendy’s face, and asked proudly, "Are you happy with today’s look, Ms. Swift?"

Wendy nodded. However, she looked down at the lavender evening gown she was wearing, and asked, "Can I change the dress? I brought one myself."

Wendy didn’t want to wear the dress Christian had prepared for her.

"This evening dress is worth millions. If you wear this dress, you’ll certainly be the most sensational lady tonight. And your makeup, hairstyle, and high heels today are all matched to this evening gown. I will have to change your makeup based on your new dress, which would be too late in terms of timing." Kevin replied with a smile, "You can save your evening gown for next time."

When Wendy wanted to say something more, Todd on the side had also changed his clothes.

"Corrine..." Todd walked over and saw Wendy at a glance, and asked, "Isn’t it time to go?"

Wendy turned her head when she heard him, and glanced at Todd’s suit, his tie had dark purple stripes. Looking more carefully, she found that the suit he wore and the evening gown that she wore matched...

By then, Wendy had finally understood what was going on.

It seemed like from the very beginning when Christian had arranged for his people to pick them up, it had been for the same purpose. But since Wendy and Todd were already acting, they had no choice but to carry on the performance. It’s just that Wendy was now worried that if she meets Michael at the press conference later, would he misunderstand her even more?

Thinking of Michael, Wendy felt a little irritable. She knew that Yonina and he were just acting, why couldn’t Michael tell that she and Todd were also just acting? Never mind, now was not the right time to think about that, Wendy sighed slightly and suppressed the sense of grief inside her.

Wendy picked up the phone and looked at the time. It was already half-past six. The press conference was at seven. It is usually expected for guests to arrive earlier than the starting time.

Now was the best time to leave if they didn’t want to be late.

Wendy stood up and said, "Let’s go, it’s time."

When Todd saw Wendy, he instantly realized that the suit he was wearing, and her gown were meant as a set for a couple.

Unlike Wendy, Todd was quite pleased with this fact.

To think of it, he had Christian to thank for in this situation.

If not for him, Todd would never have had the opportunity to dress up as a couple with Wendy and appear publicly at such an important event.

And when he saw her pretty face, he was totally smitten momentarily.

Todd had always known that Wendy was pretty.

But after the careful makeover, Wendy looked totally gorgeous. She stood out like the stars in the sky.

"Todd?" Wendy called out as she saw him in a daze.

Wendy’s voice brought Todd back to reality.

Todd was a little embarrassed. He tried to cover it up with a cough. "I was thinking of something at work. What did you just say?"

He quickly found an excuse for his inattention.

"I said, let’s go over now," Wendy repeated herself.

"Sure, let’s go," answered Todd, following behind her.

The group of people was still waiting for them outside.

As they stepped out, one of them approached them and, respectfully, said, "Mr.

Lewis and Ms. Swift, we know the venue is just nearby. But it might be inconvenient for you to walk over in your gown. So, we have prepared a car for you. This way, please."

By this time, Wendy knew it was pointless to raise any objection. So, she just obeyed.

Very soon, they reached the hotel next door.

The press conference looked massive.

The moment she stepped out of the car, she could see a multitude of reporters.

Even the entrance to the hotel was covered with the publicity poster of today’s event.

Did Christian book the entire hotel for this?!

The reporters rushed forward immediately as Wendy and Todd alighted from the car.

Todd held up his arm and whispered into Wendy’s ear, "Hold on to me."

Wendy didn’t say much, but she did as she was told.

Todd was here as her partner. To the public, they were a couple.

It was natural that they showed up together for such an important event.

Putting aside their personal relationship, this is also basic etiquette.

Even if you were without a boyfriend or the person you came with was not your partner, it was basic etiquette to hold on to a male or female partner as you entered the event.

"Ms. Swift, are you here to attend the press conference of the DR Group?"

"Are you here on a personal basis or as a representative of HG Enterprise?"

"What is your current relationship with the CEO of MC Group, Mr. Michael Lucas? Are you still in contact? Do you know if he will be attending today’s press conference?"

"Is that your boyfriend, Todd Lewis, beside you? We’ve heard that both of you are very close. Could you please share with us some details of your daily life together?"

Wendy was speechless to find reporters digging for gossip at such official events.

But on the surface, she kept her smile for the cameras and politely replied, "Today is a formal occasion. I shall refrain from answering any personal questions. Indeed, I’m here today for the DR Group’s press conference. And I am here as the representative of HG Enterprise. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mr. Lucas all the best for his upcoming project."

Wendy had been in this business for many years. She certainly knew how to handle all these reporters.

With the photographers busily snapping away, she held on to Todd’s hands and walked towards the hotel.

They just entered the hotel and saw Christian walking towards them.

Christian was such a scheming person. He obviously liked Wendy but refused to admit it. Instead, he kept trying to push her towards others. What a joke.
