Chapter 387: I’m Selling My MC Shares
The accident at the bidding had been reported in virtually all media in Lake City.
Christian was also watching the news on his laptop. He was in a great mood as he was confident that he would win the bidding, so he voted for himself at the online poll at the economy section.
To his dismay, he saw that he was in second place, surpassed by Michael, which made him clench the mouse a bit tighter.
He then called his assistant using the internal phone, "Go find the poll in the article at the economy section today, and I want to be number one at that poll in 10 minutes."
His assistant was a bit dumbfounded after hearing what his boss said as he knew that Christian didn’t use to care about those online opinions.
Besides, Christian was the most likely to win the bidding anyway if no surprises came out, so his assistant didn’t understand why he would care about something irrelevant like an online poll.
Regardless, his assistant said yes and followed his request.
As for Christian, he indeed couldn’t care less about what people online thought of him, but he wanted to beat Michael at every aspect, even at something insignificant like an internet poll.
After a short while, his votes surged as his assistant managed to mass-create bots to vote for him, and his waning smile got broader again.
He tapped on his desk with his fingers, and the sound echoed in his quiet office, then he clicked into the entertainment section and read the news about Yonina and Michael. The more he read the news, the more serious he looked. He lowered his head as he was thinking of something, and then, he took out his phone and found Wendy’s number.
He wanted to send the link to that article to Wendy, yet before he clicked ’send’, he stopped. Instead, he sent Zen a message with that link attached.
The message said: [Show Wendy this article and let me know how she reacts to it.] Zen arrived at the company before Wendy and Todd, and before they got there, she received that message from Christian, which made her frown.
She hadn’t caught up with what had been happening in Lake City, so she was surprised when she saw the title of the article.
For what it’s worth, Zen immediately understood why Christian wanted her to show Wendy that article, which was to test if Wendy still had any lingering feelings for Michael.
Her face turned white when she understood Christian’s intention, yet she still followed his instruction.
She started preparing the morning coffee for Wendy, and she walked toward Wendy with the cup of coffee after Wendy arrived at the office.
Wendy looked up at her, seeing Zen stay in her office after she put the cup on her desk, and asked, "Is there anything else?"
"Wen..." Zen immediately changed the way she called Wendy. "Ms. Swift, have you caught up with the news today?"
"Not yet," Wendy answered. "But I don’t think there’s anything interesting going on in Rheinsville City, is there? There’re no up-and-coming companies these days."
"I wasn’t talking about business," Zen said, pursing her lips.
"Then what? The entertainment section?" Wendy smiled and shrugged her shoulders while responding calmly. "You know that I was never a groupie, so I never care about any of those entertainment gossips."
In fact, Wendy had already guessed what Zen wanted to ask.
However, she pretended that she didn’t understand anything and turned on her computer, staring at the screen.
....
"Oh, it seems that you haven’t known about it yet," Zen said, pretending that she didn’t want to tell Wendy. "Then forget about it."
After seeing Zen turn around and start walking away, she said, "Wait, come back."
Zen then walked back to Wendy’s desk, looking embarrassed.
"What are you being shy about? Tell me what happened," Wendy said.
"Um..." Zen lowered her head. "Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought that up."
She apologized while slapping herself on her face.
Wendy got a bit impatient and said with a more demanding tone, "Tell me!"
"Okay. Go search the entertainment gossips in Lake City," Zeny said timidly after taking a deep breath.
"Entertainment gossips in Lake City?" Wendy acted as if she didn’t know about it at all. She glimpsed at Zen and clicked into the entertainment news in Lake City. After which, she saw the headline that she had clicked into earlier in the morning.
’I knew it. I knew that’s what she wanted me to do,’ Wendy thought.
Of course, Wendy knew that it was Christian who asked Zen to show the news and he wanted to test her reactions.
As she read through the news, she smirked and said, "Oh, Michael, you had it coming."
Although unexpected, Zen was still a bit surprised to see how brutal Wendy was.
"What did you mean by that, Ms. Swift?" Zen asked. "Are you happy that they’re having issues?"
Wendy took a sip of the coffee in front of her. She then looked up at Zen and smiled, "Why shouldn’t I be? We both know why Michael and Yonina got together in the first place. She’s only so uppity because she’s carrying the posterity of the Lucas Family.
Remember how they used to love Jake and Leah? Yet they didn’t give a damn when I was leaving with my kids because Yonina got pregnant. Why do you think that they didn’t care?"
She answered her question before Zen could say anything, "Because they realized that they have more posterity. But given the drama between them, Yonina might not be able to deliver the child safely anymore. You’re a pregnant woman as well, so you’ll know how dangerous a threatened miscarriage can be. I spent years with Michael and went through a lot with him, yet I was forced to leave Lake City because of Yonina. Shouldn’t I be cheering on what happened to them?"
"Yes, yes, you should," Zen nodded and agreed.
"Look at you. Do you think I’m being too vicious?" Wendy smiled "Then again, Yonina is a pregnant woman, so it is indeed inappropriate for me to wish such a travesty on her. I should just channel all my energies to destroying Michael instead."
Wendy paused for a second, looked at her screen, and said, "Oh, by the way, I just saw a comment that says Yonina leaked some confidential information about Michael’s company. I’ll just wish that Yonina is indeed Christian’s spy and that she can take Michael down once and for all."
"Well..." Zen felt more and more uncomfortable. "Don’t you hate Christian as well?"
"I do," Wendy said. "But I hate Michael more, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Zen nodded and smiled without replying to that.
After a moment of silence, Zen said, "Then I’ll head back to my office first. Call me if you need anything."
"Sure," Wendy said.
Wendy pursed her lips as she watched Zen walk away.
After getting back to her office, Zen sent Christian a message, quoting everything that Wendy just said about Michael and Yonina.
Christian smiled after reading the message.
....
Michael hadn’t visited Yonina once since she got admitted into the hospital.
As for Winnie, she had been staying in the hospital to take care of her as she didn’t want anything to happen to her baby.
The reporters, albeit not going into the hospital directly to interview Yonina, had been staying close so that they could capture any moments worth reporting.
On the second day, the headline of the entertainment news was "The Relationship between Michael Lucas and Yonina Collins Worsen! Michael Has Never Stepped Foot into the Hospital!"
The ordinary people who were following the news became more and more divided.
One side thought that Michael was nothing but a disloyal bastard who beat up his pregnant fiance without even checking in on her.
The other side speculated that Yonina was the one to blame as she had been scheming against Michael and destroyed the relationship between him and Wendy.
Thus, it was karma working.
As for Christian, he had been asking his sidekicks to create bots to defame Michael while preparing for the work after the bidding, which made the public opinion seem more and more lopsided.
Michael had been investigating who leaked his plan for the bidding, and the information that he leaked to the media was that Christian and Yonina conspired with each other to steal his plan.
Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to find any evidence two days after the bidding. He became furious and easily irritated and couldn’t stop smashing things violently in the office, and his behavior was somehow leaked to the media again.
The people who were siding with Michael started using that against him.
"So Michael didn’t have any evidence for his faux claim at all? Then how dare he accuse Yonina of stealing his plan? Seems like he’s too rich to suffer any consequences from false accusations."
"What the hell is happening to Michael? He not only falsely accused and beat up his fiance, who, by the way, is carrying his child, but now he’s trashing his own office?"
"Damn you, Michael. I’m selling my MC shares now!"
"I’m doing that too! Let’s buy DR shares instead! I bet that DR Group will win the bidding, and if we buy their shares now, we will definitely make a profit!"
...
Because of the media, the stock price of MC Enterprise had been plunging, making it the lowest in the past five years.
Michael, on the other hand, was happy to see his market capitalization plummeting.
The worse his reputation became, the more confident and reckless Christian would get.
Once Christian had bet his company’s entire future on that bidding, Michael, Wendy, and Yonina would have a higher chance of defeating him.
Suddenly, his phone rang. It was Christian.
Michael easily guessed why Christian was calling him.
It had been three days since the bidding event, and the result might have come out now.
Christian might have got the result, and he might be calling him to tell him that on purpose.
Michael was Christian’s biggest competitor, and Christian "stole" his plan for the bidding without him knowing.
So it was natural that Christian was calling Michael to gloat about it. After all, he had spent years trying to sabotage Michael, and it would be the best time for him to be smug.
Michael didn’t pick up the phone. Instead, he tapped on his desk for a brief moment.
After which, he called Mr. York using the internal phone.
Mr. York walked into Michael’s office in no time. "Mr. Lucas."
"Someone will be calling me soon. Pick that up for me," Michael said.
Although his phone stopped ringing, Michael was certain that Christian was going to call him again. He said, "Tell that person that I’m drunk and can’t pick up the phone."
Mr. York nodded politely.
As Michael expected, his phone rang again. Mr. York picked up the phone and put it on speaker.
