Chapter 317: Lied

"Grandmother, be safe." Wendy waved her hand.

"Wendy, why don’t you come back to the mansion sometime, and we can have a nice chat, okay?" Grandmother’s tone was a little pleading when she said, "Bring the children with you."

Wendy was going to refuse. The only thing she and Grandmother could talk about was Michael. Wendy didn’t want to talk about him with anyone.

But looking at Grandmother’s teary eyes, Wendy couldn’t get the words of refusal out of her mouth.

After a moment of hesitation, Wendy nodded her head.

After sending Grandmother away, Wendy drove Mary and the two children to the hospital.

Leah’s face was full of worry when she saw Todd lying injured on the bed and tears of heartache flowed from her eyes.

She leaned over the bed and worriedly asked Todd, "Mr. Lewis, does your wound hurt a lot?"

"It doesn’t hurt when you come to see me," Todd replied with a smile.

"Then I have to come and see Mr. Lewis more often so Mr. Lewis won’t hurt, right?"

Leah asked innocently.

"Right," Todd reached out and stroked Leah’s little head. His tone was full of doting love and tenderness.

Todd had much more interaction with these two children than Michael ever had.

After all, they had been in Rheinsville City for over four years and had been back in Lake City for less than a year.

"Sorry, I’m a little late." Wendy opened the lunchbox and scooped out the porridge into a bowl.

The thermos worked well and the porridge was steaming hot.

Wendy let the porridge cool for a while and said, "Are you hungry already?"

"Yeah." Todd looked at Wendy with his head up slightly and said, "If you’re busy, you don’t have to stay with me all the time. There are doctors and nurses in the hospital, and I’m taken care of."

"How can I not take care of you when you are in this state?" Wendy felt deeply guilty for Todd’s condition.

He had taken care of her a lot in the past, even when Wendy was feeling fine. If something went wrong, Todd would definitely be the first to help at a time like this.

"Corrine, you don’t have to feel guilty about me." Todd said, "I don’t need you to feel guilty about me either because it makes me feel a little uneasy."

Wendy picked up the bowl of porridge, spooned it to his mouth and said, "Eat first and we’ll talk about that later."

When he saw the porridge being spooned to his mouth, Todd could only smile and open his mouth.

After gently swallowing the porridge, Todd said with a deliberate smile, "Speaking of which, this is the first time I’ve ever had you feed me porridge."

"Flattered, are you?" Wendy offered a second spoonful.

Todd’s chest was bandaged so it was not easy for him to eat by himself.

Todd’s injury was caused by Wendy. It was Wendy’s duty to feed him.

"Then Mr. Lewis, I’m going to feed you too." Leah took the bowl from Wendy’s hand, and her little body climbed onto the bed. She carefully fed Todd one spoon at a time, "Here, Mr. Lewis."

Todd did not expect to be fed a meal by two people.

"My injury was worth it." Todd smiled and said.

"Blah, blah, blah." Wendy frowned in dissatisfaction as she said, "You can’t say this kind of nonsense."

"When did you become so superstitious?" When Todd saw that Wendy looked a little serious, the smile on his face faded and he immediately changed his words by saying, "Okay, okay, I won’t say it."

Todd ate his breakfast quite joyfully.

...

Time passed day by day, and Todd had been in the hospital for ten days.

After his last checkup, the doctor smiled and said, "The wound is basically healed, so if you want to leave the hospital, you can do so today. If you are not at ease, you can stay in the hospital for two more days to be observed."

"Let’s stay for two more days," said Wendy, worried about Todd’s health. "It’s not that long."

"No, I’d rather be discharged." Todd shook his head and said, "I would have been discharged a week ago if you hadn’t asked me to stay a few more days."

Todd reached up and patted his chest and said, "Look, it’s fine now."

"Don’t hit your chest," Wendy said, startled by his action.

"Didn’t the doctor just say it was fine? Don’t worry about it." Todd was actually a little helpless.

He did want to get out of the hospital a few days ago.

The smell of sterile liquids in the hospital every day made him, especially, uncomfortable.

But Wendy was worried about him and wanted to make sure he was okay before he was discharged.

Todd looked at the doctor for help.

The doctor smiled and said, "It’s okay to leave the hospital. Just come back in a week for a checkup."

"Look, that’s what the doctor said," Todd said.

"Okay, I’ll go get you discharged." Wendy smiled helplessly, then she said to the two children, "You stay here with Mr. Lewis, and Mummy will be right back."

"Okay, Mummy," Jake and Leah replied in unison.

Soon, Wendy was out of the hospital, and Todd was all packed up by the time she returned.

"Let’s go," Todd’s tone became relaxed at the thought of being discharged from the hospital.

Wendy and Todd, each pulling a child, headed out the door.

Just outside the hospital gate, Leah, who was holding her hand, suddenly looked up and said excitedly, "Mummy, that looks like Daddy!"

Hearing Leah’s words, everyone looked to the side. In the distance, Michael was indeed there.

Leah hadn’t seen Michael for many days and missed him.

Wendy had been coaxing her that Michael was busy at work and on a business trip.

Now that she saw him, she immediately let go of Wendy’s hand and ran over.

Before Wendy had time to react, Leah had already run away.

Leah said, "Daddy, Daddy." Leah quickly ran to Michael’s side. Leah had her head tilted, and her big eyes were full of delight.

When Michael heard Leah’s voice, he stopped his movements as he was about to get into the car.

With his head down, Michael looked at Leah and frowned slightly. Michael then looked over to Wendy and saw that she and Todd were there.

Michael was surprised to encounter the two children here.

He still didn’t know how to explain clearly to the two children.

Frowning, Michael knelt down and said to Leah, "What are you doing here?"

Leah said, "We’re here to pick up Mr. Lewis from the hospital." Leah’s voice was childish and sweet as she asked Michael, "Daddy, are you here to pick up Mr. Lewis from the hospital too?"

"I... " Michael didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

He was hurt a little more seriously than Todd. After all, he received two stabs.

But Todd has been in the hospital for too long, and Michael’s injuries were almost healed.

Because of this, he wore a suit that covered the wounds, and Leah naturally could not see the injuries he suffered.

As Michael looked into Leah’s big sparkling eyes, he smiled and nodded, "Yes, Daddy’s here to pick up Mr. Lewis from the hospital too."

"Then, let’s go home together," Leah happily took Michael’s hand. Then she frowned, thought of something, and asked, "How come you left without Mr. Lewis, Daddy?"

Michael thought of an excuse and said, "I knew you were coming out, so I waited for you here."

"I see," Leah didn’t doubt Michael’s words. She smiled more and more sweetly and turned around. Leah waved to Wendy and the others, "Mummy, Mr. Lewis, brother, come here. Daddy is here to take us home."

Wendy didn’t want to go over, and she didn’t want to get too close to Michael.

Besides, she saw Yonina in the car.

They were obviously leaving soon.

How could it be so unfortunate that they just happened to run into each other?

Even if it was two minutes later, Michael and Yonina would have left first, so they wouldn’t have run into each other.

When Leah saw that Wendy didn’t come over, she let go of Michael’s hand and ran back to Wendy.

She tilted her head and said, "Mummy, let’s go."

Wendy’s expression was a bit ugly as she looked at Michael and then said to Leah with her head down, "Daddy is busy, Leah. Don’t bother your daddy."

When she heard Wendy’s words, Leah’s face scrunched up into a scowl as she was obviously unhappy.

She pouted and said with watery eyes, "How come Daddy is still busy? I haven’t seen Daddy for half a month. Daddy just said he was coming to pick us up."

When she saw Leah like this, Wendy was a little distressed.

But with her current relationship with Michael, what could be done about it?

The atmosphere slowly stiffened up.

The distance between Michael and Wendy was about ten meters, and Michael looked at Wendy from time to time.

He did not dare to keep staring at Wendy.

Because he knew that Christian was watching all this nearby. It wasn’t a coincidence that they met in front of the hospital today. Christian did it on purpose.

Christian didn’t know that Yonina and Michael were working together, so he asked Yonina to wait for them at the hospital entrance at the time Todd was discharged.

Christian wanted to see Michael and Wendy’s relationship break down, and the worse, the better.

When Leah saw that no one was talking, her face flushed, and her head was filled with confusion and fear.

She didn’t know what was going on, but she knew something was wrong with the atmosphere.

"Daddy," Leah said as she ran to Michael’s side again with tears in her eyes. "Can’t you take us back?"

As he looked at Leah’s pitiful appearance, the words of refusal were stuck in his throat and Michael couldn’t say a word.

Yonina exited the car with a calm expression on her face that did not reveal her emotions. She said indifferently, "I will send someone to send them back. You still have things to deal with, so don’t delay, and it is not convenient, right?"

"Daddy, you lied to me." When Leah heard this, she cried and said, "You never used to not come home for more than ten days, nor would you not answer my calls.

Daddy, do you not want us anymore?"

The more Leah cried, the more aggressive her sobbing became.

Michael quickly squatted down and reached out to hug her and said, "How could Daddy not want you? Daddy will take you home. Daddy will take you home right now, okay?"
