Chapter 308: Seems Like Everything’s Gone Smoothly
Wendy looked at the fruit knife in her hand. She did not know what Michael was up to.
She stretched out her hand to pull her other hand back but realized that she could not even move. Michael had a death-like grip on her wrist.
Michael pulled on to her hand and pointed the knife at his chest. "I was the one who had wronged you. Do it if it means you won’t be angry at me anymore."
"Michael, what do you mean by that?" Wendy suddenly smiled. However, her smile was filled with despair. "Are you forcing my hand?"
"That’s right. I am forcing your hand." Michael nodded and continued, "Are you not able to do it. I knew it. You must not be able to bear to do that to me. because you still love me. I promise you I will handle what happened today, okay?"
"I can’t bear to do that to you?" Wendy suddenly started laughing out loud. "you will handle what happened today? There were so many reporters there just now. What happened would definitely make the headlines tomorrow. Tell me, how am I going to pretend that nothing happened today?"
"Then just do it. I am willing to earn your forgiveness with my life." Michael grabbed Wendy’s hand and forced her forward.
Wendy’s hand, which was holding the fruit knife, trembled slightly.
"Don’t force me, Michael!"
"I was in the wrong today." Michael provoked Wendy intentionally. He said, "I had let you down in the past. I should not have forced you to get an abortion and I should not have suspected that you were having an affair with Christain. I should not have treated you so heartlessly..."
Michael’s words were like blades piercing through Wendy’s heart.
She had just regained her memories and her heart was already in so much pain that she did not want to live any longer.
Yet, Michael kept mentioning the past over and over again...
"Michael!" Wendy cried his name in pain.
Then, Michael pulled Wendy’s hand towards him forcefully...
The knife pierced straight through Michael’s chest.
Wendy looked at the sight before her incredulously.
She drew her hand back in shock.
She...
She had not tried to stab him earlier.
The knife...
Wendy backed away, her hands stained with Michael’s blood.
"Wendy, I did not expect that you would really do that." The knife was stuck in Michael’s chest. He walked forward, his face filled with despair. "I thought that you loved me. But you really only wanted revenge..."
"That’s not it. No..." Wendy looked down at her blood-stained hand.
She had not stabbed him.
Michael was the one who had pulled her hand forward.
But why had he done that?
Or had she been angry just now and had really stabbed him in a fit of anger?
And had she been too angry that she had forgotten that she was the one who had stabbed him?
Wendy grabbed her head with her hand and yelled in pain.
"Why are you treating me like this, Michael? I just want to love you... without this pain!" Wendy demanded in pain. "Why? What have I done wrong?"
"Corrine, let’s go. Let’s go..." Todd saw that Wendy was about to break down. He reached out to help her up and said with concern, "Let’s get out of here. Let me take you out of here."
Wendy took one last look at Michael. She could see pain and sadness in his eyes.
But at that point, she could not tell what that meant.
She was already numb. Todd led her away.
Christian watched on from other side. Even though the word ’love’ coming out of Wendy’s mouth for Michael is quite disturbing his pleasure, satisfaction still filling his eyes.
It seemed that everything was going smoothly again.
Christian waited for Wendy to leave. Then, he walked up to Michael and took out his phone, saying with fake concern, "Michael, you’re hurt. Let me call you an ambulance."
Michael’s wound was bleeding.
Yonina held Michael as he laid on the ground. She looked up at Christian and nodded.
"Don’t try to pretend like you care!" Michael saw that Christian was reaching out to help him and he gritted his teeth in pain and pushed Christian aside.
Michael lifted his head. His face was covered in large beads of sweat. He glared at Christian, "Was it you? Were you the one who planned this?"
"Mike, I wanted to help you call an ambulance out of the goodness of my heart. Can you not blame me for everything?" Christian said.
"You planned the event tonight with Collins Group. If it wasn’t you, was it Yonina then?" Michael turned to look at her.
Yonina shook her head and said innocently, "It wasn’t me. I was drugged too. I don’t know what happened either. I was a victim as well."
Michael’s face was pale because of the pain. He could not hold on any longer and fell straight to the ground.
Winnie saw that her son was hurt and she immediately pushed the two aside, putting herself between them and Michael.
She picked up the fruit knife on the floor and held it in front of her against the others. Then, she said viciously, "Which one of you hurt my son? Who was it! I will make you pay for it!"
Winnie’s mental state was unstable in the first place therefore she behaved erratically.
"It was Wendy..." Christian said intentionally. "Didn’t you see? Your daughter-in-law Wendy hurt him. She just ran away."
"Wendy?" Winnie muttered the name. She ran out of the room with the fruit knife, muttering, "Wendy..."
"Get my mom back!" Michael was injured and could not run after his mother.
Michael could only ask Yonina for help.
He grabbed her hand and said, "Hurry up, go and bring her back!"
"Let’s send you to the hospital first," Yonina said. "I don’t know when the ambulance will come. It would be faster if I sent you there."
"Help me get my mom back first." Michael enunciated slowly.
Christian had provoked Winnie intentionally.
If Winnie were to find Wendy, nothing good was bound to happen.
Wendy had only just left and Winnie might really catch up to her.
If she did not get to Wendy, given her current mental state, who knows where she might run off to?
"I will get someone to go after her." Yonina ordered one of the people next to her, "Hurry up and get Mrs Lucas back."
A huge commotion had happened in the room, everyone at the banquet came upstairs.
The room and even the outside was filled with people.
Some people did not know what had happened, and a lot of people were gossiping about it.
Yonina helped Michael up with some difficulty. She continued giving orders, "Get the car ready. Let’s go to the hospital now!"
Yonina could not hold up Michael’s weight alone.
When Christian saw that, he took the initiative to walk up and take Michael’s other arm. He said with concern, "Mike, let me help you."
"Scram!" Michael bore the pain and used all the force he could muster to push Christian away.
Others went up to Michael quickly to help him.
...
Wendy was led away by Todd numbly.
Her mind was filled with her memories and the image of her stabbing Michael.
Everyone saw that Wendy was the one who had stabbed Michael.
But she had not used any strength.
She had been very angry and wanted to shove the knife into his chest.
But she had not done it.
But that knife had stabbed straight into Michael’s chest...
"Todd..." Wendy stopped and turned around to grab Todd’s sleeve tightly. "Do you believe me? I didn’t stab Michael just now."
"I believe you. I believe you..." Todd didn’t even think before saying that. "Let’s get out of here first, shall we?"
"Do you really believe me?" Wendy regained her wits and shook her head. Her mind was about to explode. She said, a little disappointed, "No, you don’t believe me."
It was not just Todd. Who, out of everyone present earlier, would believe her?
"I..." Todd only wanted to take Wendy away from this place.
Wendy’s emotional state had been very unstable earlier.
After such a traumatic incident, taking her away from this place and letting her calm down was the most important thing.
"Michael’s injured. I want to go back..." Wendy’s eyes were dazed as she muttered softly to herself. Her mind was filled with images of how Michael had looked with blood all over him.
No matter whether she had been the one to stab him or not, Michael was still injured. That was a fact.
"I want to go back. I want to go back..." Wendy’s eyes looked slightly crazed as she muttered the phrase over and over again. She seemed to be more and more unstable.
"There are so many people there. Nothing will happen to Michael. Someone will definitely take him to the hospital." Todd comforted her. He said gently, "Shall I take you home first? You don’t seem to be in the right state to stay here any longer."
If Wendy were to stay, she would definitely see Michael and Yonina.
It would just complicate things further.
Michael had been hurt, but there were so many people around just now. Someone would definitely help him.
The best thing to do was to let the matter blow over before dealing with it.
"I will go home after sending Michael to the hospital." Wendy was feeling terrible.
But she could not just leave the injured Michael behind.
Even though she was upset and hated him, she had stabbed him.
Todd pulled her away. Just as he was about to say something, he saw a large group of people approaching them.
Meanwhile, Michael was being helped around by Yonina and a bodyguard.
He placed most of his body weight on Yonina, leaning against her.
The blood on his chest had stained Yonina’s clothes...
It looked as if he and Yonina were the real couple.
Wendy watched as they walked past her.
Michael did not look at her as they walked by.
Wendy took a step forward subconsciously. She stretched her hand out, wanting to hold Michael.
But her hand froze mid-air.
So what if she reached out to hold Michael at this point?
She watched as they continued forward and got in a car...
Wendy laughed bitterly and retracted her hand as she watched the car drive off.
"You are right. Someone will help him." Wendy lowered her head. Her eyes were red and filled with tears.
Tears blurred her vision.
"Corrine, don’t be upset." Christian walked up to Wendy and pretended to comfort her. "That’s how Michael is like. It’s been so many years and he still can’t change."
That’s right. There used to be Yvonne, and now, there was Yonina.
Wendy had always been the extra person. The one who had thought that he loved her.
"Shut up!" Todd spat at Christian when he saw the bitter smile on Wendy’s lips.
Christian shut up obediently.
"Corrine..." Todd held Wendy’s arm. Before he could say anything else, he found her leaning into him.
"Corrine?" Todd yelled her name several times to find that Wendy had fainted.
He immediately carried her in his arms and brought her to the car.
Then, he sent her to the hospital.
