Chapter 306: It’s Not What It Seems

Todd also knew about the complicated relationships between them and Christian.

There was clearly something amiss about what had happened tonight.

Todd couldn’t let Wendy go upstairs by herself.

It would be terrible if it really was Christian’s trap.

As this was a banquet and there were a lot of people, the chances of Christian doing anything were very slim. But it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Wendy didn’t refuse and simply nodded her head.

She was actually feeling pretty nervous as well so having someone else with her made her feel more at ease.

Wendy and Todd walked upstairs together. The third floor was just a short distance away. Wendy and Todd arrived on the third floor quickly.

Just as Wendy was about to find out where Michael was, she saw Winnie.

Winnie looked like she was out of her mind as she kept repeating the same line, "Yonina, marry Yonina..."

Upon seeing Winnie, Wendy immediately ran over to her.

"Mother..." Wendy heaved a sigh of relief upon seeing Winnie, at least this meant that both she and Michael are okay.

Since Winnie was here, Michael should also be here.

"Mother, where is Michael?" Wendy asked Winnie.

"Yonina, marry Yonina..." Winnie was still repeating the same line.

"Mother!" Wendy shook Winnie and anxiously asked, "I’m asking you, where is Michael? Why did you guys suddenly come up to the third floor?"

"Michael?" Winnie looked at Wendy and suddenly burst out laughing as though she had just thought of something, "Michael went to marry Yonina, he went to marry Yonina..."

Wendy looked at Winnie resignedly. Forget it, she should just look for him herself.

It was just that she didn’t feel safe leaving Winnie here alone.

She stretched out her hand and tugged Winnie along before saying, "Mother, I’ll hold onto you so don’t run astray."

"Are you bringing me to look for Michael and Yonina?" Winnie asked.

"Yes, we’re going to find Michael." Wendy knew that Winnie had liked Yonina all along so she didn’t think too much about what Winnie was saying.

"I know where they are," Winnie said.

"You do?" Wendy continued asking, "Where are they?"

"They are over there..." Winnie pointed towards the rooms.

Wendy looked at where Winnie was pointing and there were a few rooms over there. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

She held Winnie and they both made their way over.

She knocked on one of the doors.

But Winnie just pointed at the next room and even took out the key card as she smiled and said, "Both Michael and Yonina are inside, and they are about to get married soon..."

Winnie smiled as she uttered, "She told me that as long as I used this key card to open the door to this room, Michael would be able to marry Yonina."

Upon hearing Winnie’s words, Wendy frowned and asked, "She? Who?"

But Winnie didn’t answer Wendy’s question.

Wendy thought that Winnie was just spouting nonsense because she wasn’t in the right state of mind.

Who knew where she got the key card from, maybe it couldn’t even open the door.

Just as that thought crossed Wendy’s mind, the door opened with a ’ding’.

Wendy’s eyes widened with surprise as she felt a little confused.

Does Winnie really have the key card to the room? Could Michael really be inside?

Wendy stepped into the room and softly asked, "Michael?"

"Who is it?" The person who had answered her was Yonina.

Upon hearing a familiar voice, Wendy immediately rushed into the room.

She stood rooted to the ground in shock once she saw the scene in front of her.

"Michael and Yonina are about to get married..." Winnie clapped her hands and cheered happily beside them.

And at that moment, Yonina and Michael were lying on a bed.

Yonina pulled the covers over her body, her face filled with fear as though she had not expected anyone to walk in.

On the other hand, Michael had just opened his eyes...

"You guys..." Wendy pointed at Michael and Yonina, in complete disbelief of what she was seeing.

She had been searching for Michael for so long and she came to the third floor, to this room just this see this image?

At that moment, Wendy found it hard to breathe.

Todd immediately walked in front and covered Wendy’s eyes as he turned her around and gently uttered, "Don’t look, Wendy."

Wendy could not see anything as Todd covered her eyes.

However, the image of Michael and Yonina on a bed together had been imprinted in her mind.

As she closed her eyes, certain images floated into her mind.

In those images, someone had sent her a picture.

The picture also showed Michael lying together with a woman.

Who is that woman?

Was it Yonina?

No, it was not Yonina!

Wendy was breathing very rapidly.

She wanted to recall it, she had to recall it!

Wendy suddenly knelt on the ground and let out a loud yell of pain, "Ah!..."

Seeing that Wendy was in so much pain, Michael immediately wanted to get out of the covers and off the bed.

But at the next moment, Yonina grabbed his hand...

"Let go!" Michael shook off Yonina’s hand harshly.

Yonina’s wrist hurt terribly as Michael shrugged her hand off and her eyes were filled with resentment.

They had clearly agreed that they would not lose control of their emotions no matter what happened.

Michael pushed Todd away as he hugged Wendy, who was still kneeling on the floor.

His voice was gentle and filled with remorse as he said, "I’m sorry, Wendy, I’m so sorry..."

Michael kept apologizing to her repeatedly.

He had already expected that this would happen.

It was just that he never would have thought that Wendy would be so upset.

And he was not able to just stand by and leave her like that.

"Who? Who is that person?" Wendy looked up suddenly as she stared at Michael with reddened eyes, her voice turning cold and in despair, "Who exactly is that?"

"Who is what?" Michael had no clue what Wendy was talking about.

"Who else did you sleep with back then?" Wendy’s head was in so much pain that it felt like someone cracked it open with a hammer. "Who exactly is she?!"

"I didn’t..."

Before Michael could finish his sentence, Wendy remembered who it was.

"Yvonne Taylor!" Wendy took a deep breath and clenched her teeth as she glared at Michael. She clearly said, "I remember now, it was Yvonne Taylor, that person is Yvonne Taylor!"

"Ah, ah, ah, ah..." Wendy hit her head repeatedly as her past memories invaded her head with every hit.

Countless past memories rushed into her mind suddenly.

It was way too much for her, so much so that she felt as though her head was about to explode.

"Wendy, please calm down, Wendy..." Michael reached out to hug Wendy tightly as he gulped and tried to calm Wendy down. He explained, "What you saw just now was just..."

"Michael!" Yonina got off the bed as well and interrupted Michael sharply. "You clearly said that you were going to take responsibility for me, how can you change your mind right after getting off the bed?"

"Shut up!" Michael turned around and glared at Yonina as he threatened, "If one more word leaves your mouth, I will make sure that the Collins Group goes bankrupt!"

"You..." Yonina was furious but she did not know what to do.

They had clearly agreed that they had to wait for Christian to come in.

But Michael forgot about everything after he saw Wendy cry.

"Wendy, please calm down..." Michael took a deep breath as he hugged Wendy tightly to calm her down.

She being like this would only make it more painful for her.

On the other hand, countless images passed through Wendy’s mind instantaneously.

Michael holding a woman’s hand.

Michael putting his arm around a woman’s waist.

Michael forcing her to have an abortion.

Michael choking her and beating her.

He even gave up on saving her.

...

All these different images appeared in Wendy’s mind one at a time.

"Wendy, I can explain everything, you just need to calm down first, okay?" Michael said calmly.

But Wendy could not register anything that Michael was saying anymore.

She slowly raised her head, her eyes reddened as she glanced at the man she was so familiar with.

"You can explain?" Beads of sweat dotted Wendy’s forehead as she laughed coldly, "What do you want to explain?

Do you want to explain that there was nothing going on between Yvonne Taylor and you back then?

Do you want to explain that you didn’t force me to have an abortion?

Or do you want to explain that you didn’t love me at all and that you married me because grandmother pressured you to take responsibility for me?"

"Wendy, you..." Michael could see the hatred in Wendy’s eyes as he asked in fear, "Do you remember everything now?"

Michael was most afraid of Wendy remembering what had happened in the past.

Didn’t he change Wendy’s medicine at every opportunity just so that he could prevent her from regaining her memory?

"Yeah, are you afraid of me regaining my memory?" Wendy smiled coldly, "Back then, you changed my medicine in the hope that I wouldn’t regain my memory. I knew that the reason I had forgotten my memory of those eight years was because they were terrible memories.

I had also guessed that you probably hadn’t treated me well in the past and you feel bad towards me, which was why you tried your best to prevent me from remembering anything.

But never have I ever expected that you would personally force me into the operation room to have an abortion!"

"That was all in the past, Wendy, isn’t our family of four living a good life now?"

Michael tried to persuade Wendy, "I’m sorry for doing all those terrible things to you in the past but I really do love you now. I will use the rest of my life to make it up to you and our two children, please believe me, Wendy."

"Believe you?" Wendy pointed at Yonina who was beside them and said with gritted teeth, "Is that how you want me to believe you?"

"This is fake, it’s not what it seems." Michael explained, "It’s..."

"Michael, why must you lie to her?" Yonina stood forward and said, "If she hadn’t come back, we would have been married.

She disappeared for five years and you have indeed done her wrong in the past.

So, you hid our relationship in order to make it up to her after she came back.

Michael, why don’t you see that I am also a victim as well?

Do you really want to see me marry Christian?

Or are you going to give me up because of that bit of guilt you’re feeling?"

"If I hadn’t come back, both of you would have been married?" Wendy looked up in disbelief and glanced at Yonina.

"Yes!" Yonina said definitely before continuing, "It’s been five years, Wendy, not five days or five months.

Michael hadn’t loved you in the past so what made you think that he would be deeply in love with you after five years?

He just feels guilty towards you because you gave birth to two of his children.

Your appearance had completely ruined Michael’s and my plan to be together.

Wendy, why must you come back?"
