Chapter 238: I’ll Take You Back
The doctor nodded and immediately did what he said by saying, "Mrs. Lucas, I’m sorry, I lied.
"The memory suppression medicine only suppresses the recovery of memory during the period of taking the medicine.
"If you want to suppress your memory for life, you have to take it for at least three to five years to have this effect.
"For a month, as soon as the medicine is stopped, the effect of the medicine will be gone."
With a puzzled look, Wendy surveyed this doctor.
Suddenly, she looked down at him and asked seriously, "Are you being paid by Michael?"
Wendy did not dare to trust Michael so easily anymore.
"Mrs. Lucas, what I say now is true. If there is any falsehood, I... " The doctor put up his finger and swore with a vow, "If there is any falsehood, I will be hit by a car when I go out."
The doctor didn’t look like he was lying. Wendy relaxed her eyebrows a bit. But who would do that?
"Then let me ask you." Wendy asked her doubts aloud, "Who instructed you?"
"It was Zen," the doctor said truthfully.
The name took Wendy by surprise, and she said, "No way!"
Zen was her friend, and although she was now working for Christian’s company, they had been friends for so many years.
Why would Zen do such a thing?
However, after denying it, Wendy found numerous suspicions.
In the beginning, Zen went out of her way to steal her client, and even fell out with her. And at that time, she did not know the hospital doctor and this doctor’s contact information was given by Zen...
Wendy gulped and the paint brush she had been holding in her hand fell on the table with a snap.
Michael actually did not want to tell Wendy that this matter was directed by Zen.
The reason being that he knew that in Wendy’s heart, Zen had a certain amount of importance.
Now that she knew this fact, it must have been very unbearable for her.
Michael went to Wendy’s side, reached out and took her head to place it in his arms. With a wave of his hand, Michael sent the doctor out.
The atmosphere in the office was quiet and strained.
Michael comforted her and said, "Wendy, don’t feel too bad. Zen has been Christian’s person for a long time. It’s no surprise that she will help Christian."
"I’ll have to ask her." Wendy swallowed hard and still couldn’t believe it as she said, "Robbing a client is a business matter after all. I thought that no matter what, we are friends in private. I can understand using some tactics in official matters, but why would she do this to me?"
When Michael saw Wendy looking for her phone, he immediately stopped her and rationally analyzed her by saying, "Wendy, it’s better not to alarm her in this case. Zen is probably just a puppet in this matter, and the real mastermind behind it is probably Christian."
"It must be Christian!" said Wendy. "Zen must have been threatened by him."
"Whether or not Zen was threatened... " Michael advised Wendy, "You must be careful in any future contact with her."
Wendy was not stupid.
At this point in time, she certainly knew that Zen could no longer be trusted. But after so many years of being friends, Zen was Wendy’s only friend, so how could she accept this?
With her eyes downcast, Wendy took a deep breath.
She was sad to find out that everyone around her had betrayed her.
Her husband, whom she had always trusted, had switched her medication. The friend she had always trusted sowed discord in their relationship.
Wendy retreated from Michael’s arms.
Even now that she knew the incident was deliberately instigated, Wendy could not let go of all her defenses.
After all, Michael did lie to her too.
Michael’s eyes darkened as he watched Wendy’s distancing from him. He knew what he had done couldn’t be erased that quickly. No matter how much time it took, he could take his time and wait.
"Wendy, do you still want to go home and visit?" Michael took a deep breath and brought up the subject again by saying, "I know that you are probably still suspicious of me right now.
"It’s okay, you should go back and take a look. As long as you slowly remember something, it means that the memory suppressant I gave you before can still be reverted after wearing off."
Wendy remembered the familiar feeling she had when she arrived in that neighborhood in the morning.
At the time, she thought that she was just familiar and couldn’t possibly remember it again.
Now, it seemed that maybe it was really possible to walk into that house and remember some of it.
"What if after I remember, it’s a memory I have no way of bearing? Have you thought about that?" Wendy looked at Michael and asked him with some trembling in her voice.
In fact, Wendy was afraid.
She was afraid that she really couldn’t afford those eight years of memories.
"Of course, I’ve thought about it, and it’s because I’ve thought about it that I changed your medication before." Michael was relieved that things had been laid out, and said truthfully, "But I’ve come to understand now that you should make your own decisions about your memories. No matter what the outcome is, I respect your decision."
Under Michael’s encouraging gaze, Wendy took a deep breath and seemed to nod, as if she had made up her mind.
Seeing this, Michael smiled with ease and candor as he extended his hand toward Wendy and said, "I’ll take you back."
Holding Michael’s hand tightly, Wendy followed him outside.
In fact, they both knew that even if they didn’t go today, one day, Wendy would still go back to visit.
So, it would be better to go back together now.
Standing at the door again, Wendy took a deep breath and looked up at Michael.
Looking at the key he handed over, Wendy reached out and took it with a trembling hand.
The key was inserted into the hole and turned hard.
The lock rattled softly and soon the door opened.
Wendy lifted her foot and took the courage to step inside.
Her eyes scanned around, and a sense of familiarity came over her.
Was this the place where she and Michael had lived after their marriage?
Michael seemed to know what Wendy was thinking and said, "When we first got married, I didn’t love you.
"So, the wedding house was just a random choice for me.
"Or to be more precise, I deliberately picked an ordinary house.
"At that time, I thought you married me because of my status.
"I even misunderstood that you drugged me for the first time between us. To you, I naturally had an aversion.
"The good thing was that Grandmother liked you very much, otherwise, I’m afraid we would have divorced a long time ago.
"It’s also fortunate that Grandmother liked you that we never got divorced."
As she listened to Michael’s words, some fragments came to Wendy’s mind.
She looked at the foyer and remembered a man coming home with an angry look on his face as he looked at her.
She went up to help him pick up his clothes and briefcase but was pushed out of the way.
She fell to the floor, but the man didn’t care at all, and even said viciously that he was getting a divorce.
When she didn’t agree, the man grabbed her by the neck and forced her.
Wendy closed her eyes as the memory became unbearable. But more than that, she could not recall it.
This memory was only a fragment.
She couldn’t even see the faces of the two people in the scene.
Although it was hard to see, she knew it was Michael.
