Chapter 224: I Can Give A Chance

Michael pulled Wendy behind him as he stepped forward. He looked down on the men who were still on the ground. With a commanding voice, he said, "I am Michael Lucas. Heard of MC Group?"

Who would not have heard of MC Group?

Though they had not seen Michael in person, they sure heard of the name before. But what would they have done to have Michael appearing in front of them now?

The leader of the group swallowed his saliva and asked timidly, "Mr.... Mr. Lucas, why are you here? Did... did we do something that upset you?"

It was pretty clear. They had done something that offended Michael and likely this woman had deep connections with Michael.

"What did you do to upset me?" Michael laughed coldly. "When you accept commissioned assignments, don’t you do background checks beforehand?"

"Uh..." They panicked and exchanged glances.

"The woman you are about to kidnap is my wife!" Michael shouted furiously at them as his gaze moved from one person to another.

"Count yourselves lucky that I intervened before you got away. Otherwise, if she is really taken away, do you think you will have the luxury to live past today?"

"Have mercy on us, Mr. Lucas. We are just following orders."

"Yes, Mr. Lucas. We didn’t know that she was Mrs. Lucas. We merely take on any jobs that come our way. Please let us off the hook this time."

The five men got onto their knees and kowtowed vigorously. Nothing was more important than keeping their lives.

"I can give you a chance." Michael said.

"Thank you, Mr. Lucas. As long as you are willing to let us go, we will do anything in return."

At this time, one of the men’s phones started vibrating. He did not dare to pick up.

Michael guessed who the caller would be. He nodded briefly at the guy and said, "Answer the call."

The man quivered as he reached for the phone in his pocket. He raised his head to look at Michael and asked, "What... what do I say when I answer?"

"Answer tactfully." Michael took a quick glance at the number displayed on the phone. It was not Winnie’s number. But it was not a surprise. Winnie would be smart enough not to use her usual number.

"Okay." The man raised his shaky hand to tap on the answer button.

Michael looked at him and emphasized, "Act normally when you answer. Stop shaking!"

But the man shook more after Michael’s words.

Michael turned slightly and reached his hand out at one of the bodyguards. The bodyguard took out a gun and placed it in his hand.

Pointing the gun on the man’s head, Michael asked, "Don’t you understand what I said?"

"Understood, understood..." The man felt the cold metal barrel against his forehead and he almost peed in his pants. He had to calm down.

Otherwise, he would have to die. He took a deep breath and answered the phone.

"Yes, all is going as planned." The man replied as simply as he could and hung up.

The less he spoke, the less chance he had to screw up. He looked up at Michael and shivered. "The caller asked if the operation was smooth. I replied with a yes and she hung up after."

"Mr. Lucas, please let us go!" The man continued kowtowing until his forehead had some abrasion.

"I said I will give you a chance." Michael kept the gun and continued. "Just continue to put on an act and follow through the original plan."

"Okay." The five men agreed immediately. As long as Michael would let them off, they would not hesitate to do anything he asked. Because they had no other choice.

According to Winnie’s plan, Wendy was brought to a hotel. Michael entered the hotel room with Wendy and his entourage of bodyguards. One of the abductors said, "The paying master tasked us to bring Mrs. Lucas to this hotel after she has knocked out. Then we have to take a photo and send it to this number."

The man searched for the number and showed it to Michael. Michael saw a familiar string of numbers and he let out a cold laugh. That was his own number.

Winnie wanted to ruin Wendy’s innocence. If Winnie succeeded with her plan, Michael would go to the hotel immediately and check once he saw the photos. And when Michael reached, he would see Wendy in bed with another man.

First, it was the photos of Wendy going out on dates with another man. And now, this.

Michael closed his eyes as he could not imagine how venomous his own mother was. If it all went according to her plan, Wendy’s destiny would be fixed as no man would be able to tolerate his own wife committing adultery. And with all the evidence Winnie had on hand, Wendy would not be able to prove her innocence.

"Text her and tell her that it is done." Michael gave the instruction coldly. The man did as he was told.

After a short while, Michael received a call from Winnie. Winnie’s tone was anxious and concerned, "Michael, did Wendy get in touch with you? She asked me out to watch a movie with her. We were supposed to meet at two p.m. but I was late for about half an hour as the traffic jam was bad. I went to the cinema but I didn’t see her there. I tried calling her but her phone was switched off. Michael, do you think she is angry with me? I didn’t know the traffic jam would be so bad either."

Winnie called Michael on purpose. These days, she had been quite close to Wendy.

Since she had planned the operation, she needed to call Michael first so that she could divert his attention and make herself seem less suspicious. That way, Michael would think that Winnie had nothing to do with this.

By the time Michael got the photo of Wendy in a hotel room with another guy, he would naturally be too enraged and he would not verify about their movie appointment.

Although everything was planned out in detail, she did not expect Michael to have taken precautions against her at all. And she had fallen into Michael’s trap instead.

"No, she didn’t. I have been trying to call her as well." Michael sounded annoyed and his anger heightened, "But I received a text earlier. I am rushing to the hotel now."

"What text? And what about a hotel?" She sounded surprised. "What is going on?"

"I can’t say for sure now. I’ll be going to investigate the matter first."

"Which hotel is it? I’ll go over now too." Winnie would not waste an opportunity like that to watch a good drama. Furthermore, she was the director of this episode.

"Cirrus Hotel. Room 226." Michael said.

"Okay, I will be there shortly." Winnie pretended to calm Michael down a little. "No matter what happens later, don’t flare up immediately. Try to talk things through and understand the matter first yah?"

"Okay, I am driving now. Hanging up."

"Okay, drive safely."

After the call ended, Michael sat on the bed. He closed his eyes as he felt a headache incoming.

Wendy knew that Michael was having a tough time. After all, the person he had to deal with was his mother. Wendy just sat next to him in silence to accompany him.

Soon after, Winnie arrived at the hotel room. The room was not locked and Winnie strode in happily.
