Chapter 147: Slap

Wendy was really furious.

She was angry with Jill, but she was angrier with Michael.

As she walked in, she pushed Jill aside rather hard and headed straight for where Michael was seated.

Without even thinking, she grabbed the glass of wine in front of him and splashed it on his face.

Michael wasn’t expecting that at all.

He stood up and stared at her. "Wendy..."

"Michael Lucas!" Wendy’s chest was heaving from her anger. "I can’t believe how much of a douchebag you are now. Jill is practically my sister, so how could you do this to her? If I hadn’t come, were you really going to just passively let her be and then not take responsibility after that?"

Wendy’s eyes were bloodshot. She was really angry now. She had splashed the red wine pretty fiercely into his face too.

Michael opened his mouth to speak but Wendy didn’t give him the chance to do so. She marched right up to him and grabbed him by the collar.

Even though she was a head shorter than him, she was so aggressive, it was as if she were taller than him.

She stared straight at him and said in a stern warning tone, "Michael Lucas, I’ve thought too highly of you. You’re worse than I ever expected. Jill is young and naive, so she just kept clinging on to you without knowing anything else, but as someone who should know better, you never turned her away."

Why? Do you really intend to marry her? Or are you just going to sleep with her and then forget about the whole thing?"

After all, someone like you would think that it would be such a waste not to sleep with a young and pretty woman, right?

Or worse, are you using this to take revenge on me?

The entire company knows that you’ve failed to win my heart, so now you’ve decided to flirt with Jill all day instead. Are you trying to humiliate me? Are you trying to make the entire company laugh at me because of this? You could have any woman you want! Why must you carry on this ambiguous relationship with Jill of all people? Why aren’t you saying anything?! What on earth do you want?!"

Jill didn’t expect Wendy to be this agitated. She had hoped to help Michael, but it seemed like she had only made it worse.

She walked over and tried to pull Wendy away as she quietly said, "Wendy..."

Immediately after she uttered those two syllables, Wendy turned to start reprimanding her instead. "Be quiet! So much for saying I’m a sister to you! You claimed to treat me as a sister but openly tried to seduce my ex-husband. Are you mocking me? Have I ever treated you badly? I know you’re more open-minded, but this is no way to behave! I’m warning you! if you harbor any more feelings for Michael, I’m not going to be your friend anymore!"

"Uh... Wendy, will you let me say two things first?" Jill smiled awkwardly and held up two fingers. "Just two things."

Wendy stared at Jill without saying anything, as if she was waiting for Jill to carry on.

"The first thing is that..." started Jill, "this whole thing about seducing Mr. Lucas is all a sham. We wanted to agitate you and test if you still love him or not."

According to the plan they agreed on, Jill would tell Wendy the truth about this whole thing once Wendy turned up at the house. But Jill didn’t expect to have to admit to what she’d done under such circumstances. She cleared her throat, then noticed that Wendy still looked as furious as ever, so she immediately decided to bail herself out first.

"The second thing is... all of this was Mr. Lucas’ idea. I was forced to be part of it."

It was only natural for her to choose to protect herself first and throw Michael under the bus. After all, Wendy looked way too terrifying for her o handle now.

After she was done saying these two things, she glanced at Wendy’s expression for a second, then looked down at the floor and didn’t dare to look up again.

The house was deathly silent.

As long as Wendy didn’t say anything, neither Michael nor Jill dared to speak.

It wasn’t that wendy had not thought about this possibility. Jill and Michael were acting too strange during this time. The reason that Wendy still let them lead her around by the nose after thinking it through was her care towards Jill and her fear of hurting her.

Unexpectedly, the person she wanted to protect lied to her in conjunction with others.

Wendy looked at Jill’s facial expression disappointedly.

She couldn’t help but laughed.

"Jill, you betrayed me. You..." Michael didn’t expect Jill to be so faithless.

As soon as the matter was revealed, she sold him out.

But before he finished speaking, Wendy smiled and turned to look at him. Meeting Wendy’s eyes, Michael couldn’t say a word.

Reaching out and grabbing Wendy’s hand, Michael explained with trepidation and fear "Wendy, listen to me. The matter is actually-"

Slap!

Wendy slapped hard on Michael’s face. She said sharply, "This slap is for your deception!"

After her words, the second heavy slap fell again. "This slap is what you’ve owed our son and me for all these years!"

Then came the third slap. "With the last slap, we are even-steven!"

Three slaps in a row not only knocked Michael into a cocked hat but even Jill on the side was Shocked.

It was the first time she saw Wendy hit someone.

While in Rheinsville City, although Wendy barely smiled and was usually harsh, she never Scolded or beat anyone.

It also made Jill realize how serious it was when she lied to Wendy with Michael.

Jill swallowed. She thought it would be better for her to quit first under this circumstance.

"Um, you guys continue chatting. I’m leaving

now..."

Jill smiled awkwardly and waved before running away in a second.

She even reached out to close the door on the way.

Wendy did not chase after Jill.

In this situation, Michael was the bigger culprit. Wendy’s three slaps showed no mercy.

Soon, fingerprints appeared on Michae’s face. Michael stretched out his hand, intending to hold Wendy.

Wendy pulled her hand away at the moment he touched the corner of her clothes.

"I don’t know what you are thinking about in your mind. How could you have done such naive things," Wendy took a deep breath and said directly, "Michael Lucas, I have told you. It’s impossible for me and you to be together again. I came back to Lake City to get revenge on you. Frankly speaking, the hatred in my heart has not disappeared. I still hate you badly."

However, I don’t want my son, like you did when you were a child, to live with unhappiness and full of hatred in his childhood."

Therefore, for the sake of my son, I am willing to give up revenge and leave Lake City. But that’s it. I can’t be with you again. Even if I let go of my hatred for you, I don’t love you anymore. Do you understand?"

The words "don’t love you" kept echoing in Michael’s mind.

He was so powerless.

He had already realized the fact when Wendy hit him with a car.

Nevertheless, he didn’t want to believe it.

Hence, no matter who told him the truth, he still hoped, even for just a little bit, for which Michael was willing to take an attempt.

He couldn’t bear to let Wendy leave him again.

If she hadn’t submitted her resignation letter, Michael might still be able to bear it. He thought it would be enough that Wendy was still by his side, staying in MC Enterprise and Lake City. But once she left Lake City, Michael was afraid that he would never see her again.

Thinking of this, Michael didn’t want to let her go.

"So, Wendy..." Michael didn’t dare to grab Wendy’s hand anymore. Looking at her disappointed and angry eyes, Michael took a deep breath and said, "Allow me to say a few words as well, okay?"

Since things had reached this point, Wendy would give him some time. She said, "Take your time, not only for a few words but enough to finish your speech. Tonight, right here, let’s talk about everything. After then, I hope we have nothing to do with each other. I will no longer think about getting revenge on you. Whether you are with Yonina or who, I will not step in. Likewise, stop interfering with my life anymore.

We have written off all the previous events. From now on, please don’t disturb my life with Jake. He is MY son. I hope Mr. Lucas will not have the idea of taking HIS son back."

It was you that gave up our child back then. So, Mr. Lucas, you’d better assume that Wendy Stewart, your wife, already died five years ago."

"What I want to tell you is the truth about five years ago." Actually, at an earlier time, Michael had longed to explain to Wendy what happened back then.

However, he had no chance.

In addition, he was overconfident.

He had always thought that Wendy would return to him sooner or later, no matter if he explained what happened five years ago or not.

Yet now he realized that Wendy’s hatred for him was all leftover from the things back then.

It was impossible for Wendy to love him unless she let go of hatred. No matter what would happen to them in the future, Michael didn’t want to see Wendy living with hatred. And Michael did regret his overconfidence.

If he could have looked for an opportunity to clarify things that happened long ago when Wendy returned to Lake City, would everything turn out way better now?

"Five years ago?" Wendy sneered when she heard this sentence. "If that’s what you’re gonna talk about, then we have nothing to say."

Five years ago, it was all hurt for Wendy.

She neither wanted to recall what happened back then nor let Michael rub his nose in it.

Seeing Wendy turning around and planning to leave, Michael stretched out his hand and grabbed her hand directly.

This time, Michael was not afraid.

No matter how scared he was, if he didn’t tell her what happened back then, perhaps he would lose the chance to say it.

Wendy struggled to shake off Michael’s hand. Nevertheless, Michael didn’t want to let go of Wendy, making her unable to get rid of him.

"Let go of me!" Wendy was so angry that her eyes were full of bloodshot. She looked scary but distressed.

"Wendy, I hope you can let me finish my words," Michael sighed and said, "whether you believe me or not, I have to say these things tonight."

Wendy failed and gave up.

She sneered, "Mr. Lucas is still as dominating as ever. Whenever you would like to speak, I have to listen, right?" After a pause, Wendy continued, "You said you want to talk about things from five years ago? What are you trying to say?"

To say how you tortured me back then and how you adored Yvonne Taylor, letting her bully me? Or do you want to say that you didn’t believe me and personally put me on the operating table to abort my child? In other words, what a big dilemma had you undertaken on the cruise before choosing to save Yvonne instead of me and my son?"

It’s weird to say that our three-year relationship as husband and wife, plus a child, could not hold a candle to Yvonne Taylor. Yet five years later, you could even be so cruel to Yvonne. Michael Lucas, you are such a heartless person."
