Chapter 125: Make A Trip Down To The Police Station Again
Yvonne did not have kids of her own and she did not know toys could get so expensive. She looked at the toys on the counter and questioned the owner, "is this a robbery? You are telling me that these toys will cost me seven thousand two hundred dollars?"
"We have labeled all the prices on the shelves. You can check the prices beforehand." The owner peered at Yvonne’s expression and his tone was not as friendly as he was initially. "if you don’t have enough to spare, you can pick fewer items."
"Oh no, but I like them all. Pretty please?" Jake tugged on Yvonne’s blouse with his pleading round eyes looking up at her. Yvonne looked down at Jake, gritted her teeth, and passed her card to the owner.
The last time she was at the mall, Wendy had fooled her into spending over tens of thousands of dollars. Inclusive of this current bill, she would have completely maxed out the credit limit on her card. However, with Jake in her hands now, she was thinking of ways to earn some money back. Not only did she want Wendy to apologize and kowtow to her, but she could also possibly ask for a lump sum of money too. Anyway, with Wendy’s current status, she wouldn’t need to worry about not having enough to pay Yvonne.
After the payment, Yvonne split the huge shopping bags into two bundles for each hand, but she was not able to hold on to Jake.
Jake walked in front of Yvonne cheerfully with the Transformers toy in hand. Next, it was time to call the police.
Jake turned back and looked at Yvonne. He pouted his lips and said, "Oh, I want to pee. I’ll go look for a toilet."
"Hey, don’t run!" Yvonne followed closely behind Jake as she was afraid that he would run away instead.
Jake did not turn back, but he shouted as he ran, "I’m not running away. You have bought so many toys for me. I haven’t even played with them yet."
Yvonne was relieved when she heard Jake. It was normal for kids to love playing with toys.
And the new toys were not even unboxed yet, surely, he wouldn’t run away.
Of course, Jake wasn’t really looking for a toilet.
He walked to a corner where Yvonne could not see him and made a call with his smartwatch.
"Hello, Mr. Police Officer. There is a person trying to kidnap me. The person is a woman in her thirties. She is wearing a black dress with a sun hat. I am wearing a white top with jeans. I am now at Whitney Central Street..."
After giving the police officer the exact address, he stood at the same spot for a few minutes before walking back slowly to look for Yvonne Yvonne was getting a little impatient as she got worried that Jake had really escaped. Just as she was about to go look for Jake, she saw Jake walking back to her and she heaved a sigh of relief.
Yvonne asked as she walked up to Jake, "What took you so long?"
Jake blinked innocently and said, "It took me Some time to find a public toilet. Don’t be angry with me, okay?"
Yvonne was definitely irritated, but now that he was back, all was good. Jake was her final triumph card, and she could not afford to lose it.
"Let’s make our way to my house then." For precaution, Yvonne decided to free up one hand to hold onto Jake in case he decided to run off again.
Jake obediently held onto Yvonne’s hand. It was a good opportunity for Jake to be held by hand at this point. It would be clear to the police officers that he was being ’kidnapped’.
After a few steps, there were a few police officers walking toward them. Yvonne pulled down her sun hat out of her guilty conscious and looked down to avoid eye contact with the officers. But the officers looked as if they were really coming towards her. Yvonne thought she had not really kidnapped Jake yet, so Wendy wouldn’t have known about it and called the police, for that matter. Yvonne raised her head up as she was certain that the police were not after her.
Jake giggled and looked up at Yvonne, "I called these police officers. You may be in trouble."
"What did you say?" Yvonne was astonished.
Jake called the police? Poor Yvonne failed in her plan, and now, she was getting into more trouble.
Wendy was having a meeting at that time. In normal circumstances, Wendy would not have answered any calls if they were not urgent when she was in meetings. But when Jill saw that it was from the police station, she passed the phone to Wendy and whispered in her ears, "Call is from the police station."
When she heard that it was from the police station, she frowned. She went down to the police station yesterday. And now, they were looking for her again?
Wendy recalled that Michael was there too at the police station when Winnie filed a report against her. Unless Michael regretted his decision yesterday to dismiss the case against her?
She took over the phone and excused herself from the meeting. She answered the call after she had left the meeting room. On the other end of the receiver, the police officer said, "Ms. Corrine, we have to trouble you again to make a trip down to the police station today."
Wendy thought it was for the same matter as yesterday and did not ask any questions. She acknowledged and hung up. She gave Jill some instructions on important work matters and made her way to the elevator.
What surprised her was that she bumped into Michael when she stepped out of the elevator.
Michael was just stepping out from the other elevator. She picked up her pace and walked towards her car. Once she got in, she started up her car and drove out of the underground car park.
Her rage heightened the moment she saw Michael. To bump into him at this time was too much of a coincidence. He was also leaving MC, which meant that he was likely on his way to the police station as well. So, what was his apology yesterday for then?
Both their cars arrived at the police station one after the other. Wendy slammed her door shut and walked over to Michael. "Mr. Lucas, I think you owe me an explanation."
Michael did not expect Wendy to appear at the same place as he did. He got a call earlier saying that Yvonne was involved in a kidnapping case. Yvonne mentioned to the officer that she had connections with Michael and requested them to call him over. Yvonne had done many things that have made Michael disappointed in her. But Michael had promised to take care of Yvonne. He could not possibly leave her in the lunch to go to jail. He would feel guilty towards Harold.
He came over to the police station personally to understand how she was involved in the case. Hence, he did not expect to see Wendy. But it became clear to Michael that the kid Yvonne was kidnapping was none other than Wendy’s child.
Seeing that Michael did not have an explanation, Wendy scoffed, "Mr. Lucas, I know you have a certain level of influence in Lake City. But I, Corrine, am not a pushover. It is not like you could do anything you want with me. We both know very well what happened that day that led to the accident. If you stir things up, I believe you won’t benefit from it either.
"Wendy, I know I shouldn’t have pestered you in the past. I apologize for all the inconvenience caused." Michael bowed lightly as he apologized sincerely. "In the future, I won’t do anything to make you uncomfortable."
If not for the accident, Michael would have thought that Wendy was still in love with him and he was confident that she will come back to him one day. That was why he had been pestering Wendy, despite the amount of pain he had inflicted on Wendy five years ago.
Wendy was not sure what Michael had in mind with his apology yet again. One moment, he was all around Wendy and now, he was being courteous and distant towards her. Was he playing the pity card? Or was it because of Yonina?
"Oh really?" Wendy turned to Michael and laughed, "So Mr. Lucas, don’t tell me you are out shopping and randomly stopping by the police station?"
Michael pursed his lips and said, "I am here today because of Yvonne."
He did not want to say the reason was for Yvonne initially because of the bad blood between her and Wendy. But since they were both there at the police station, it was a matter of time before she found out.
Wendy looked solemn upon hearing Yvonne’s name. She thought the police officers called her in today for the accident. But if Michael was here for Yvonne, this would mean that the agenda today had nothing to do with the accident?
Wendy peered suspiciously at Michael. Michael did not explain further but said, "Let’s go in first. You will understand in a while."
Wendy followed behind Michael as they stepped into the police station.
True enough, the first familiar face Wendy saw was Yvonne. And to her surprise, she saw Jake as well.
"Mummy..." Jake smiled as he ran towards Wendy and gave her a tight hug. He then popped out his little head from Wendy’s embrace and looked at Michael. Michael looked solemn and Jake couldn’t tell his mood from his expression.
But at least he looked healthy. Jake was somewhat the trigger of the accident. Hence, he was relieved to see that Michael was well.
"Michael..." Yvonne called out as she walked towards Michael. She reached her hand out to Michael, but Michael dodged away from her.
Yvonne was used to this kind of cold treatment from Michael, and she was not embarrassed by it.
Yvonne started wailing. "Michael, this little brat called the police and said I kidnapped him. I gave him snacks, bought him toys... and he did this to me..." Yvonne was quick to turn the tables around, like she usually did.
Wendy narrowed her eyes slightly and she looked down at Jake who was still in her embrace. Feeling a little guilty, Jake looked down immediately and avoided eye contact with his mother. His mother was smart. Surely, she would have figured out that he had sneaked out of school earlier than his usual school hours.
Even if so, Wendy would not question Jake about it while they were still at the police station.
Looking at Yvonne, Wendy flared up, "Yvonne, any grudges between us is between us. Why would you do such a thing to an innocent child?"
"What did I do? I have said earlier, I was just being kind-hearted. I fed him snacks and bought toys for him. It is your child who framed me and told the police that I kidnapped him." Yvonne Would never admit to this, no matter how silly she was.
Yvonne pointed at the bags of toys on the floor and said furiously, "Have you ever seen any kidnapper buy a child $7,200 worth of toys?"
Every time she saw the bags of toys, she got more enraged. Her being tricked by Wendy once for the dresses was enough. Now even a young boy could manipulate her easily.
"In the beginning, you only gave me snacks. It was until I said I wanted toys or else I won’t go anywhere with you. It was after that was said that you brought me to buy toys," Jake rebutted.
Now that he had successfully got Yvonne to the police station, he wouldn’t let her go scot-free.
Jake looked at the police officers and said, "Mr. Police Officer, you can check the surveillance camera outside the school gate. It was about an hour ago. I managed to flag a taxi and it was she who carried me out of the taxi. She then told the taxi driver that we are not taking his car, making it seem like we know each other."
