Chapter 105: You Should Have Died!

This voice was too familiar. Even though it had been five years, she could still vividly remember this voice.

Wendy turned around and stared coldly at Yvonne Taylor.

Yvonne looked completely different from how she did five years ago. In the past, she was always dressed in expensive designer clothes from head to toe, and she loved wearing intimidatingly high heels. She also had curled hair and liked to show off her figure. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

But now, the Yvonne standing before her was dressed in loose, casual clothes and wearing flats. Even her hair had been straightened. Her appearance came as a shock to Wendy. If they did not have the exact same face, she would have doubted that this person was Yvonne Taylor.

"It really is you..." Yvonne stared incredulously at her.

She thought that Wendy had perished in the sea five years ago and did not understand why she was standing before her now.

Five years ago, Yvonne believed that Michael had chosen to save her life over Wendy’s, and she had been overjoyed to realize that he still loved her. But after the incident, he built a task force dedicated to searching for Wendy, and paid no attention whatsoever to her. No matter how hard she tried to meet Michael, he refused to see her.

It was then she realized that Michael was thoroughly in love with Wendy and felt nothing toward her. Or perhaps Michael had never loved her, and this was just something that Yvonne refused to admit.

Hence, she started to imitate how Wendy dressed. She gave up her high heels and straightened her hair. She even learned how to talk like Wendy, all in the hope that Michael would glance at her.

Unfortunately, despite all her efforts, Michael’s attitude remained as cold and distant as ever.

Whenever she came to the company to see him, he would ask her to leave. Even when she brought home-cooked food for him, he ignored her. However, Yvonne did not relent, because she believed that Michael’s beloved wife, Wendy, was already dead. She thought that as long as she persevered and worked hard enough, Michael would eventually look back at her. She never expected Wendy to show up here again five years later.

When Yvonne saw Wendy’s beautiful and delicate face, her entire body started trembling with rage. She approached her, grabbed her collar, and started interrogating her loudly, "Wendy Stewart, you were alive all this time? Why are you even still alive at all? Why didn’t you just die in the sea? If not for you, I would have gotten to be with Michael a long time ago! We would have so many children by now!"

Wendy allowed Yvonne to continue shaking her.

After all, they were still in the office. The more Yvonne behaved unreasonably, the better it was for Wendy. That way, she would have a reason to teach Yvonne a lesson.

Yvonne had refused to believe the news headlines when she first saw them. She had witnessed Wendy falling into the sea with her own eyes. It was impossible for a pregnant woman to survive something like that.

Moreover, even Michael had been unable to locate her over the past five years. It made no sense that she was still alive. However, Wendy’s face had been etched deeply into her mind. She was certain that could recognize Wendy even if she was burnt to ashes, and here she was, standing right before Yvonne.

"You should have died! You really should have died!" Yvonne started shaking her more forcefully. Wendy almost lost her balance. Her voice increased in volume too as she completely disregarded the professional setting that they were in, "Why are you still alive? Why did you come back?"

From Yvonne’s perspective, Michael would never have found Wendy if she had not returned to this city. She also believed that no matter how coldly Michael treated her now, he would eventually feel moved by her persistence and choose to get together with her.

Hence, Wendy’s abrupt return was a huge blow to Yvonne. The fact that Wendy was still alive only meant that Michael would never ever fall in love with Yvonne.

Wendy allowed Yvonne to continue shaking her and screaming at her. She waited until Yvonne was more or less done with what she wanted to say before she forcefully pushed her away.

Tilting her head back slightly, Wendy stared condescendingly at Yvonne. She said, "Miss, I don’t know you, and I don’t know this Wendy Stewart that you keep talking about."

"Wendy Stewart, why are you pretending?"

Wendy’s push nearly made Yvonne lose her balance completely. Fortunately, she was wearing flats today. Otherwise, she would have fallen to the ground. Yvonne’s eyes were filled with hatred as she stared at Wendy. She said, "Do you think that you can really become Corrine just because you refuse to admit who you really are? Even if you change your name, you’re still the same old si*t!"

Without hesitating, Wendy raised her hand and gave Yvonne a harsh slap. Yvonne was dumbfounded from the sudden attack.

Covering her face, she raised her hand to hit Wendy back.

However, Wendy grabbed her hand in midair. Yvonne tried to retract her hand, but Wendy had a death grip around her.

"Wendy Stewart! How dare you hit me?" said Yvonne, who was absolutely fuming.

"How dare I hit you? You’re the one who started insulting me for no reason!" said Wendy before she raised her other hand and slapped the other side of Yvonne’s face. She continued, saying, "And because you’re the one who attacked me first!"

All the employees at the conference had come running out the moment they heard the commotion. They started gossiping amongst themselves.

"Did Miss Taylor mistake Miss Corrine for Wendy Stewart, too?"

"Is Miss Corrine really Wendy Stewart in disguise? I just joined MC Enterprise recently and I’ve never seen Wendy Stewart before, but everyone says that they really look astonishingly similar. I wish I could see what Wendy Stewart looked like."

"It doesn’t matter. In any case, it was Miss Taylor who tried to start a fight here. No matter who Miss Corrine really is, she’s an important business partner, and Mr. Lucas thinks very highly of her. Isn’t Miss Taylor just asking for it?"

"Miss Taylor is not such a saint herself. I’ve been working here for close to seven years, so l know a bit about what really happened back then. I heard that a few years before Mr. Lucas married Wendy Stewart, Miss Taylor tried to drug him. She ended up framing Wendy for the incident. Since Mr. Lucas slept with Wendy under the influence of the drug, they decided to get married. After that happened, Miss Taylor continued to hold a grudge, and she kept trying to bully Wendy. Mr. Lucas, on the other hand, was gravely mistaken about Wendy, and he hated her for the longest time. I think he eventually fell in love with her, but then they encountered the kidnappers, and Wendy ended up perishing in the sea. After Wendy’s alleged death, Miss Taylor continued pestering Mr. Lucas because she believed that he would give her another chance. It seems that she has mistaken Miss Corrine for Wendy Stewart, which explains why she’s acting this way now."

"Damn, so many things happened? I knew that Miss Taylor was in love with Mr. Lucas, but I never knew that she was this shameless. It’s no wonder that Mr. Lucas doesn’t like her."

"It doesn’t matter if Miss Corrine is Wendy Stewart. In any case, her demeanor is completely different from how Wendy used to act. If Miss Taylor wants to fight with Miss Corrine, I’m sure we have an exciting show ahead of us."

...

Yvonne was furious about getting slapped by Wendy. On top of that, everyone around them was gossiping about her. This made her even angrier. Without thinking about anything else, she reached out to shove Wendy, needing to hit her back.

Wendy found this amusing. Even those people gossiping around her knew that she was no longer the same person from five years ago.

Why was Yvonne still treating her like a weakling? In the past, she put up with Yvonne’s behavior because she was afraid that Michael would threaten her with divorce. But now, she hated him just as much. What other reason did she have to be afraid of Yvonne?

Wendy took two steps back, causing Yvonne to miss her target and fall forward. She landed flat on the ground. When she saw how pathetic Yvonne looked, Wendy turned to Jill with a grave expression on her face. Furious, she yelled, "Jill, inform the security about this. I want her out of this place!"

When Jill heard her instructions, she immediately acted on them.

"Wendy Stewart, how dare you!" Yvonne got back up on her feet. She started screaming, "What right do you have to call security? This is MC Enterprise, this company belongs to Michael, not you!"

"So, you do know that this is a professional workplace?" Wendy snapped back. She felt rather disappointed as she continued staring at Yvonne.

It seemed obvious that Yvonne had not become any smarter even after five long years.

She thought, what was she thinking, making such a big fuss here? Wasn’t she just asking for it?

Wendy sneered. She glared at Yvonne before saying in a stern and intimidating voice, "I don’t care who you are or who you think I am. Right now, I am a business partner of MC Enterprise, and the head of the design department. You were the one who came running into my territory and even tried to hit me. I believe I have every right to call the security, and even the police. So many people here saw what you tried to do. I could make sure that you end up at the police station if I wanted to!"

"So what? What are you trying to say? That you’re already showing me mercy by calling only security?" Yvonne started laughing hysterically.

Pointing at Wendy, she started screaming again, "You sl*t, why didn’t you die five years ago? It would have been perfect if you had died in the sea with your b*stard child back then"

Wendy could have put up with Yvonne insulting her. However, implicating her child in this was a completely different story... She raised her hand and gave Yvonne another slap. It was so forceful that Yvonne lost her balance and fell again. The moment she crawled back up, Wendy slapped her again. Wendy’s slaps were ruthless and merciless.

She used so much force that her hands were starting to feel numb. The corners of Yvonne’s lips started bleeding.

She wanted to fight back, but the more she wanted to hit Wendy, the more frantic she became. Her flustered mental state made it easy for Wendy to avoid her blows, since she had so much more clarity at that moment.

On the contrary, Yvonne’s mind was filled with rage.

Suddenly, the crowd around them parted to clear a path.

Wendy saw Michael approaching them. She cocked her head back slightly as she stared at the man standing before her without any fear in her eyes. Retracting her hand, she decided not to explain herself. Instead, she said calmly, "M. Lucas, the security at your company is evidently not good enough. What is a crazy woman like her doing here?"

"Wendy Stewart, how dare you call me crazy?!" Yvonne’s hair was a huge mess. There was blood on the corners of her lips, and her cheeks had started swelling. At that moment, she really did look like a crazy woman.

The people around them started taking photos of the scene. The flashes from their cameras made Yvonne scream hysterically, "Stop it! Don’t take any photos of me!"

"Michael..." Yvonne approached Michael, crying.

She reached out to tug at his sleeve and started whining, "Michael, you have to stand up for me. Look what she did to me."

Michael stepped back without saying a word. Wendy did not know what Michael intended to do, but today, everyone knew her as Corrine.

Since she was a business partner of MC Enterprise, she felt justified in asking Michael to give her a justifiable explanation. She said, "Mr. Lucas, I hope that you can be accountable for this. Fortunately, she did not bring any weapons with her today. I’m afraid that she might show up with weapons next time to try to kill me."

Of course, Michael understood perfectly well what Wendy wanted him to do. The guilt that he felt toward Yvonne had been wiped clean a long time ago. He realized that it was his friend that he felt guilty toward, not her.
