Chapter 807: Chapter 242: You Finally Came! (Third Update)
Has the Alchemy Institute, which has always valued rules, actually decided to openly break them?
This is simply something that incites public outrage!
Without mentioning names directly, Feng Ping used such a method to stir up the crowd’s emotions, clearly intending to embarrass Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong.
"Why can they take the inner courtyard exam directly?"
"Exactly! We’re all on the same level; no exceptions should be allowed!"
"Entering the Alchemy Institute, you have to stay in the Outer Court for a year. That’s the rule. Why is the Alchemy Institute breaking this rule today?"
"I think it’s not the Alchemy Institute wanting to break the rules; rather, someone is forcing them to do so."
"Holy shit! Who has such power to force the Alchemy Institute?"
"Maybe they’re from some noble family, or elites from a big family. Otherwise, they could just be two haughty individuals who disdain studying in the Outer Court with us."
"Bah! What the hell. Do they really think they’re so impressive!"
"They’re indeed more impressive than us! They can make the Alchemy Institute change the rules. Can we do that?"
"Heh, wanting to directly test for the Inner Courtyard? Is it that easy to pass?"
All around, discontented discussions resounded, and a subtle cold smile appeared on Feng Ping’s rigid face.
Zhao Nanxing spoke with a displeased expression, "This Master Feng Ping, within the Alchemy Institute, is infamous for being stern. However, being too stern makes him inflexible and stubborn, unable to adapt. I suppose your reluctance to enter the Outer Court has upset him, making him think you lack the patience of a Pill Master, hence wanting to purposely make things difficult."
Mu Qingge sneered, "It doesn’t matter. The more they look down on us now, the more face they’ll lose later." She flicked the dust off her robe lightly and looked at Mei Zizhong with a smile, "Mei Senior, are you ready?"
Mei Zizhong nodded with a smile.
"I’ll take you there," Zhao Nanxing offered spontaneously.
But Mu Qingge stopped him. "Zhao Senior, you’ve already helped us enough. You shouldn’t get further involved."
Zhao Nanxing’s heart warmed, knowing Mu Qingge was worried he might face trouble in the Alchemy Institute if he meddled too much in this matter. However, he wasn’t someone concerned about himself.
Just as he was about to insist, Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong walked directly forward, advancing towards Feng Ping.
Mu Qingge, clad in red, appeared wild and unrestrained, possessing an unparalleled beauty that blurred gender lines. Mei Zizhong, in white, was as elegant as a cloud, exuding an ethereal aura. As the two of them walked calmly, the imposing presence they emitted suppressed the surrounding voices of dissent.
The crowd, packed tightly, naturally parted, opening a path for the two to walk up to the steps.
’It’s him!’ In the crowd, Song Jinsan’s heart skipped a beat as she watched Mu Qingge walking alongside Mei Zizhong. But soon after, she felt relieved. Mu Qingge was already so outstanding; coming here, naturally, she wouldn’t be like an ordinary disciple, waiting in the Outer Court for a year.
Only—
Song Jinsan’s expression dimmed. If Mu Qingge directly entered the Inner Courtyard, wouldn’t she have to wait a year to see her?
Hoping to study Alchemy with Mu Qingge, Song Jinsan suddenly felt immensely motivated.
If Mu Qingge smoothly entered the Inner Courtyard, then she must work extremely hard during her year in the Outer Court, striving to meet the standards for entering the Inner Courtyard within that time.
After deciding in her heart, Song Jinsan’s gaze shone with determination, baffling her companions beside her.
Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong approached Feng Ping, whose gaze coldly swept over them, and he said, "Are you two the ones seeking to break the rule and directly take the Inner Courtyard exam?"
"Exactly," Mu Qingge responded.
Mei Zizhong nodded along.
Feng Ping withdrew his gaze and looked at the surrounding tens of thousands of examinees, infusing Spiritual Power into his voice so everyone could hear, "Indeed, your suspicions are correct. This time, the Alchemy Institute’s rule will be broken for these two. Why, I am also unclear. In short, it’s an order from above, and I can only follow it."
These words were far from consoling, instead provoking the others’ anger.
Mu Qingge internally sneered.
Feng Ping’s deliberate difficulty was met with her calm composure, showing no sign of joy or anger.
"This is too much! Why is that?"
"Do they think having someone influential behind them is a big deal? Why break the rules!"
"The Alchemy Institute isn’t your family business; you can’t just do whatever you want!"
"Who are they anyway?"
Anew, words of anger rose all around.
Feng Ping revealed a slight satisfied smile. Seeing this smile, a playful light flashed in Mu Qingge’s eyes. She turned around, facing the accusations of tens of thousands, suddenly saying, "We’re testing for the Inner Courtyard because we have the capability. Since we have the ability, why waste time in the Outer Court? If you believe you can, you’re welcome to step forward and take the exam with us!"
Her words gradually pacified the voices of anger.
A shadow crossed Feng Ping’s eyes.
After calming the crowd, Mu Qingge smiled mischievously and turned back to Feng Ping. "Master Feng Ping, a word of advice: speak what should be spoken, and don’t waste time with what shouldn’t be. The time you’re delaying now belongs to all of us."
Feng Ping’s face darkened, his gaze angry as he looked at Mu Qingge.
"Impertinent!"
"Audacious!"
The two attendants behind him spoke up simultaneously.
Feng Ping raised his hand, stopping them from continuing, and sneered, "Fine, I’ll see what skills you have to make the institute break the rules for you!"
Then he addressed the others, "In this exception, we absolutely will not show favoritism. The inner courtyard examination for these two will be conducted in front of you. You are the supervisors, to see if they qualify for the Inner Courtyard. If they cannot pass the exam, the Alchemy Institute will revoke their eligibility, never considering them for admission again!"
The crowd was in an uproar!
Zhao Nanxing’s eyes narrowed sharply.
He was unaware of this latter part. Not passing the exam and being forever excluded from the Alchemy Institute admissions? So ruthless! He couldn’t ascertain if this was Feng Ping’s idea or if it was part of the higher authorities’ order.
Although he had great faith in Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong’s abilities, he couldn’t help but sweat for them.
"That’s more like it!"
"That’s exactly how it should be! Let them try it!"
"Right. If they fail the exam this time, you’ll be waiting to cry! Hahaha..."
"This is the Alchemy Institute I envision! The Holy Land of Alchemy is not to be sullied by those leveraging influence to do as they please!"
"Let’s start quickly! I can’t wait to knock them down!"
"Yes, yes! Hurry up with the assessment. We’re just waiting for them to fail and leave, so we can have our own assessment!"
The crowd seemed to have determined that Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong would fail the assessment.
However, the ones deemed failures showed no signs of being affected, only waiting for Feng Ping to announce the contents of the assessment.
Feng Ping smiled smugly at Mu Qingge. It seems the person he disdains the most is the flamboyant Mu Qingge, whereas he is not as repulsed by the serene and otherworldly Mei Zizhong.
Mu Qingge remained indifferent to his smugness.
Arguing with such people is pointless. Only when the facts emerge can they be silenced.
"The assessment consists of three parts. The first part is to walk from here to the top within one incense stick’s time." Feng Ping pointed back to the top of the steps.
The top seemed to be in the clouds, surrounded by mist.
"Then, return here!" He pointed again to where Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong were currently standing.
"What the heck? Just walking back and forth on the steps?" The crowd expressed surprise.
Feng Ping heard the discussions and sneered as he explained, "Don’t underestimate these steps. Everyone who wants to enter the Alchemy Institute must walk through them once. The test is of your spiritual sense; if it’s not strong enough, you won’t be able to pass. Your assessment is to complete the round within the time of three incense sticks, which counts as passing. But for those two, there’s only one incense stick’s time."
"Ah!"
"So that’s it!"
The crowd suddenly understood.
An attendant behind Feng Ping lit an incense stick and handed it to Feng Ping.
With a wave of Feng Ping’s hand, the incense stick floated in the air, visible to all as it burned.
"You may start now." Feng Ping’s gaze returned to Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong, speaking with a sneer.
His expression seemed to have already determined that within the time of one incense stick, Mei Zizhong and Mu Qingge would be unable to complete the round on the steps.
Mu Qingge glanced at him indifferently, with a slight adjustment to her robe before taking the first step. Mei Zizhong followed closely, with a calm demeanor that brought tranquility and dispelled irritability.
Their stability and calmness made Feng Ping’s brow furrow, causing him to doubt his prior certainty.
Now, at the mist enshrouded summit, stood a figure.
With hands behind his back, dressed in sumptuous attire, he had an extraordinary air. His facial features were distinct and handsome. As he stood on the steps, the mist obscured his form, yet he could see Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong climbing below.
Noticing that striking red figure, his lips curled into an inadvertent smile. He murmured, "You’ve finally arrived!" His eyes showed flames leaping, symbolizing battle and a strong desire to compete vigorously!
Just as he spoke, Mu Qingge looked up at the sky above.
Yet, in her vision, there was nothing but swirling mist. Mu Qingge slightly frowned, wondering why she felt as though she was being observed?
"Qingge?" Mei Zizhong, walking beside her, saw her suddenly stop and couldn’t help but ask.
Mu Qingge regained focus, directing a soft shake of her head to Mei Zizhong.
The two had just taken a few steps before pausing on the steps.
This made Feng Ping’s smug smile even more pronounced. He thought these characters were formidable, but unexpectedly, they stopped after just getting here.
Others, too, were reveling in the spectacle, watching as those red and white figures suddenly halted, gloating gleefully.
"Tch~! They looked so dignified and extraordinary, thought they possessed some genuine skills, but turns out they’re just fancy pillows."
The girl beside Song Jinsan sneered disdainfully.
Could Mu Qingge be just a fancy pillow?
Song Jinsan shook her head slowly; she wouldn’t believe it. She whispered a warning to her companion, "Don’t speak carelessly."
"How am I speaking carelessly?" Her companion pointed at Mu Qingge and Mei Zizhong, sharply saying, "Look, they’ve stopped after a few steps, and this incense stick is already halfway gone—can they finish? Even I might do better!"
’Indeed! The incense burns quickly!’ Song Jinsan looked at the burning incense, her eyes showing some concern.
As her companion’s words ended, mocking voices erupted around them.
"Ha! This time they’ve overdone the show, can’t even pass the first round, how can they talk about the next two rounds? Better roll away quickly!"
"Roll! Roll away!"
"Just leave, don’t embarrass yourself here. That incense stick is about to burn out, quitting now could save some face."
"Face? Do they even have face? It’s laughable! If today’s spectacle spreads, the Middle Ancient Realm has one more topic for casual conversation."
"Hahahaha... two fools thinking they can directly enter the Inner Courtyard?"
"I bet they won’t even make it through the doors of the Alchemy Institute this time."
The mocking voices brought a sarcastic gleam to Zhao Nanxing’s eyes standing amidst the crowd. He had participated in the assessment before and knew the pressure on the steps.
Given Mei Zizhong and Mu Qingge’s spiritual sense strength, passing should be effortlessly easy. Yet, upon seeing the two pause, the crowd began their senseless chatter.
Zhao Nanxing internally sneered, waiting for them to be proven wrong.
"Brother Mei, shall we proceed?" Mu Qingge focused her mind, unaffected by the surrounding discussions, and spoke to Mei Zizhong.
Mei Zizhong nodded, "Sure." He was actually waiting for Mu Qingge; otherwise, why would he have stopped here?
The two took steps again, moving up one more layer.
The power emanating from the steps made Mu Qingge smile slightly. She said to Mei Zizhong, "These steps share similarities with the Spiritual Consciousness Tower in the Medicine Tower. Brother, shall we have a competition?"
Her interest piqued, Mei Zizhong naturally wouldn’t refuse.
He indulgently looked at her, nodding, "Okay, whatever you say." In his eyes, there was no desire to win or lose.
Mu Qingge reminded him, "You can’t let me win intentionally."
"I won’t," Mei Zizhong replied with a smile. As if Mu Qingge needed to be given any advantage.
He always remembered the miracle she created in the Medicine Tower Branch’s Spiritual Consciousness Tower back then. Today, she would certainly astonish the crowd here, shaking the Alchemy Institute!
The two exchanged smiles, then began to quicken their pace.
Feng Ping kept an eye on the burning incense, intending to kindly remind the two that only a third of it was left. But before he could speak, he saw two figures swiftly darting over the steps...
