Chapter 13: SUDDEN ENCOUNTER
Hazel just made a call to Ranon, so she only needed to wait for the staff to settle her in a private room that Ranon arranged for her.
While waiting, Hazel looked around. This place hadn't changed at all since the last time she was here a year ago with Arlo.
They promised to come back again, but their busy schedules were in the way, and at this point, it had become a promise that would never be fulfilled.
However, when Hazel was sitting on the sofa, keeping herself busy with the laptop on her lap, she caught sight of a couple who had just entered the restaurant. The laptop on her lap slipped, and it crashed against the floor, causing a loud noise that attracted people's attention.
"Are you alright, Miss?" One of the staff approached her and looked concerned.
"Oh, yes. I am fine. No problem." Hazel waved her hand and tucked her hair behind her ears; she touched her nape and smiled at the staff.
This gesture caught Arlo's attention. He remembered that habit really well. Like he said, he found a joy in discovering little things about her; well, of course, this habit wouldn't go unnoticed.
That was right; the couple that just entered the restaurant was none other than Arlo and Aubrey, coming hand in hand.
Hazel cursed herself for losing her composure, but she didn't expect to see them here. Aspen City was three cities away from here; why would they be here?!
Hazel was caught off guard; she was ready to face these two imbeciles and exact her revenge, but this encounter was out of her calculation. This was an unexpected variable.
"What are you looking at?" Aubrey pursed her lips when she saw Arlo paying attention to a clumsy girl who just dropped her laptop because she was mesmerized by Arlo. Of course, Aubrey could see that. "No need to look at her." She tugged his hand to walk away from there.
Hearing her voice, Hazel lifted her head and glanced towards their direction, and for a while, her eyes met with Arlo's, as he was staring at her. There was this slight frown between his brows, but then Hazel averted her eyes and thanked the staff as she handed her the laptop.
"Miss, your room is ready. Please, follow me; I will take you there."
"Thank you."
Hazel hurriedly followed the staff.
And when her shock wore off, the feeling that remained was anger. Hazel was so angry at the two of them. She really contemplated the option to rush towards their room and kill them both.
But of course, that was only her impulsiveness that was speaking. Killing them right away and putting herself into great trouble because of it was definitely not a smart move.
"The audacity!" Hazel cursed under her breath, which made the staff look at her with confusion and think she was angry because her laptop was broken.
How dare Arlo take Aubrey to her favorite restaurant? It looked like an insult for her. He wanted to relive the memory with her with that notorious woman!

"Do you want to order something, miss?"
"Yes. Lamb chop," Hazel grumbled. "I want five portions of it."
"I am sorry, miss, but we have only four portions left."
"Fine. Four then."
Hazel was upset; she felt like she could eat the whole lamb by herself.
But at the same time, someone ordered the same thing. Unfortunately for them, Hazel's order was the priority.
"You don't have it?" Arlo frowned. He ordered the lamb chop, but the staff said they had run out of the lamb. "I thought that's this restaurant's signature dish."
"Yes, someone just ordered the last portion of it." The staff apologized. Hazel's order was the top priority.
Arlo had booked a VIP room with a beautiful view of the mountain from here, but the room that Ranon booked for Hazel was not even on the list. Only the owner and his family could use that room.
"It's okay, let's order something else. I don't like lamb too." Aubrey flipped the menu casually, while Arlo fell silent.
"I will order tea."
"You will not eat?"
"I am not hungry."
Aubrey frowned. They drove past three cities to get to this restaurant, but now he said he was not hungry? Who would believe that?
===============================
"Damn. I have never experienced a meeting as if I were racing a car." Lucian was done for. The meeting that was supposed to be held for four hours was cut short to only one and a half hours. "Where are you going again?"
Lucian watched Ranon leave his office and then looked at Ares.
"I think he is going to meet that woman."
"Hmm." Lucian pondered. "That woman is very mysterious. Did we miss something? She has been low-key all this time. Did the Rose family know about this? Or is this one of their schemes to get to Ranon?"
It was too early to make a speculation, and everything was still not clear, but they believed Ranon knew what to do.
Meanwhile, Ranon drove alone to the restaurant and went straight to the room where Hazel had been waiting for him, but a strong smell of lamb chop hit his senses the moment he stepped into the room.
"Are you having someone else here?" Ranon asked, frowning at a few empty plates on the table.
"No. I am alone." Hazel looked at him innocently, eating her meat. "I thought you would come later." She glanced at her watch. "You are very early."
"The meeting was wrapped up early."
"Oh."
Ranon sat across from Hazel and stared at the four empty plates on the table. "Did they starve you?"
Only then did Hazel realize what it looked like in Ranon's eyes. "No..." she replied sheepishly, but her appetite had been very good. She was rather worried that she would grow in size. "But, lamb chop here is really delicious." She made a lame excuse.
