Chapter 68: I... I was messing with him...?
Ilyra turned back towards Lucian and nodded with a thankful smile.
Lucian, however...
He frowned as he looked at his gun then his hand that was pushed back the moment he shot.
Is this recoil?
He wondered in his head.
Obviously, he hadn’t used a gun before. Gun training was covered in basics, one that he had clearly skipped and clearly, Vivienne had no interest in it.
Lucian didn’t care, he kicked the guard below him, knocking him unconscious, then he moved again.
Standing in one place in the middle of a battlefield was foolish, he needed to keep moving, to make it difficult for the enemies to lock him down.
He covered himself behind another machine, then, he let his senses do the rest.
He listened to how the guard across the corridor stepped forward, how his breathing stopped, he turned and saw his finger tighten before moving towards the trigger,
Then, Lucian moved.
He couldn’t control the recoil, so shooting from a distance was foolish, so he decided to close the distance and once he was close enough—
BANG
He fired again.
"AAGGGHHHHH!!"
The bullet hit the guard’s side, not where he was aiming at, but it still did the work. The guard staggered, now wide open and this time, Lucian didn’t shoot directly.
He tightened his grip, lowered his elbow, two shots before this told him that fighting recoil after shooting was pointless, he needed to prepare for it beforehand.
And that’s what he did.
He adjusted, then he fired at the centre mass, the biggest target in a human body and—
BANG
"Aaagghhhh!!"
Before the guard could take cover, his chest snapped back and he fell.
Dead.
It was the first time Lucian killed someone.
It was the first time Lucian took another human’s life.
And he...
His focus shifted to another guard who saw what happened and rushed with a gun pointed at him. Lucian took cover again, the other guard was too far, he couldn’t shoot from where he was.
He needed to move.
So he did.
He slid behind a chair, the guard’s aim followed where he went but Lucian was simply too fast for him to take proper aim.
"S-Stop running around you freak!!"
The guard stuttered in disbelief but just then—
A chair came flying at him.
"W-What!?"
He ducked and dodged the thing, but the moment he opened his eyes again, Lucian was already aiming at him.
"N-No—"
BANG BANG
Lucian fired twice, both bullets plunged into his chest.
This time, his accuracy was much better.
Thud
The guard dropped and Lucian—
He picked up the guard’s gun, threw his away because he remembered from the movies he watched that most guns only had six bullets and he had no idea how to reload.
Then, he changed his position again.
A few meters away, Tomas, who had just severed another guard’s head, saw what happened.
He had been watching Lucian the moment they entered, he even snickered when Lucian missed his first shot.
What was I even expecting?
He laughed at himself.
But the longer he observed... the wider his eyes got...
From the first shot that completely missed the target to neutralising the target in one swift motion...
Is he... improving during the battle!?
What sort of mind fuckery was that!?
He couldn’t help but watch in disbelief as Lucian took down two more guards before picking up their guns and moving again.
This time, he seemed even more comfortable with the guns, he didn’t even take that long to prepare for a shot, it was almost as if his body remembered exactly what it was supposed to do and this time, it found a way to do it even quicker.
What...?
BANG BANG BANG BANG
Tomas stared in disbelief as Lucian took down two more guards, then three more on the left, then he moved behind and appeared at the blind spot of the one who had been hiding behind cover for quite a while.
At this point, Lucian had begun taking out the most troublesome ones, the ones who actually knew how to fight in a gun battle, the veterans.
And these veterans had absolutely no chance against him because every time he appeared, he appeared from their blind spot and by the time they noticed him, he was already taking his shot.
He was unnaturally fast.
But that wasn’t even his strongest point, his strongest point was the way he moved.
It was as if the entire battlefield was already in his mind, as if he could already see where the enemies were, the cleanest and safest paths to get to them.
His speed, his reactions, even his strength, he was way ahead of every single being present in the hall in every single thing.
Heck, his kill count was already above Captain Darius, it wasn’t even a fair match.
And as Tomas watched it all—
As he watched the man rule over the battlefield like a ghost who could not be stopped—
I... I was messing with him...?
He thought as his eyes widened in horror and he felt a strong chill on his back.
And just then—
Just as he thought about it, Lucian suddenly turned towards him. His body trembled, his back arched up, Lucian aimed his gun at him and—
BANG
Tomas closed his eyes, his adrenaline rushed, his senses heightened, he could hear the bullet moving past him and then—
"Aaagghhhh!!"
Tomas heard a voice.
It was an enemy guard who had moved around his cover and was ready to shoot at him.
Tomas froze.
He... protected me...?
"Focus on the battle, I promise to let you watch me all you want once this is over, okay angry face?"
Lucian spoke before he moved again and Tomas...
He only had one question in his head.
How did he know...?
Even he didn’t feel the enemy had snuck up behind him, then how did he...?
"What the hell...?
Does he have eyes on his back?"
Mara suddenly commented, looking at Lucian in disbelief.
