Chapter 305: Chapter 305 Crack in the Illusion (2)
Samantha’s eyes never left the phone in Ethan’s hand.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
The executive lounge seemed unnaturally quiet, the hum of the city outside muffled by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Ethan leaned casually against the conference table, watching her with an expression that was almost amused.
"You look nervous," he observed.
Samantha forced herself to straighten her shoulders.
"I’m not interested in your games."
"Games?" Ethan let out a low chuckle. "Trust me, Samantha. If this were a game, it would’ve ended long ago."
She folded her arms across her chest, trying to hide the slight tremor in her hands.
"What exactly do you want?"
"What I’ve always wanted."
Ethan’s smile faded.
Samantha’s heart skipped a beat.
She stared at him without blinking.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Ethan sighed dramatically.
"You really don’t remember, do you?"
He unlocked his phone.
The screen lit up.
He looked at it briefly before locking it again.
"Do you want to see a video. I could show you."
Samantha’s breathing became uneven.
Those words made he feel as if she had instantly fallen into hell.
Overcome by uncontrollable panic, she knew full well just how reckless Ethan—a heir born into a wealthy, old-money family—could be: “Ethan Knight, how dare you! I will kill you”
Ethan just smiled, thoroughly enjoying Samantha’s current expression.
He said maliciously, "You knew I arrived Washington before you did."
"I knew exactly which room you were in. I just didn’t expect you to be so ‘enthusiastic’—yet you kept calling me Ryan..."
"Samantha, you really have no shame.”
Every word drove Samantha wild.
It wasn’t Ryan...
It wasn’t Ryan that night...
No wonder.
No matter how affectionately she called Ryan’s name, he had never responded to her.
It turned out that Ethan knew she had mistaken him for someone else and had deliberately remained silent as an act of revenge.
Ethan laughed and gave Samantha’s pale face a hard slap.
"For a man like Ryan to be bewitched by a woman like you, you must’ve put in quite a bit of effort. But you need to understand—you’ve become far too arrogant. Ryan’s kindness toward you has allowed you to act with complete impunity, telling everyone, both inside and outside the Knight family, that you’re the most important person in his life... his greatest weakness."
He smirked.
"I should actually thank you for becoming Ryan’s weakness."
Who in the entire Knight family was truly willing to remain under Ryan Knight’s control?
Their grandfather had unilaterally declared Ryan the sole heir, leaving everyone else without an opportunity to prove themselves.
Now...
Ethan was genuinely pleased.
A man who was cold, ruthless, indifferent to everyone—even to his own wife—and who had always seemed completely invincible...
Had finally revealed a weakness.
That weakness...
Was Samantha.
The thought delighted him.
For the first time, he felt he finally held an advantage over Ryan.
Still in an excellent mood, Ethan slowly brushed a fingertip across Samantha’s trembling lips before letting his hand fall away.
He slipped both hands into his pockets and casually walked out.
Leaving Samantha alone...
To deal with the chaos he had just created.
Samantha’s head throbbed.
Her thoughts spun wildly.
That night...
She had been absolutely certain she’d drugged Ryan’s drink.
She had watched him empty the glass with her own eyes.
To make her act more convincing, she had taken a small amount of the drug herself.
She had never imagined its effects would be so much stronger than expected.
It had left her disoriented...
Too disoriented to realize that the man she’d been with wasn’t Ryan at all.
So...
Where had Ryan gone that night?
He had taken the drug.
What had happened afterward?
Had he ended up with another woman?
But later, when she’d subtly questioned him about that night, Ryan hadn’t denied anything.
Or perhaps...
Something really had happened between Ryan and another woman...
And he’d mistakenly believed that woman was Samantha.
Was that why he hadn’t denied it when she hinted about spending the night together?
There were simply too many possibilities.
Enough to drive Samantha to the brink of collapse.
What frightened her wasn’t the fact that she’d slept with Ethan.
After all...
It wasn’t the first time.
What terrified her was not knowing what had actually happened to Ryan that night.
That uncertainty was slowly consuming her.
Still...
She knew one thing for certain.
After that night, Ryan had continued treating her exactly as he always had.
Maybe...
Everything was still under control.
Taking a slow, shaky breath, Samantha immediately called Daisy.
"Mom..."
"I need to get back to New York as soon as possible."
"I have to see Ryan."
"Something’s gone terribly wrong..."
No matter what happened...
Her position as the Taylor family’s heiress was secure.
She had nothing to worry about on that front.
What mattered most now...
Was her relationship with Ryan.
