Chapter 212: Chapter 212 Ryan’s Unexpected Proposal
Rose had actually expected this.
In the heat of the moment, she hadn’t wanted to waste precious time on what Samantha imagined to be some sort of rivalry. She had acted with full awareness of the consequences.
So when she met Samantha’s cold, mocking gaze at that moment, Rose appeared much calmer.
She didn’t even bother looking at Ryan.
"It’s up to you," she said. "Call the police or file a lawsuit. If you need my ID number, you can ask your boss, Mr. Knight. He knows it."
After dropping those words, Rose turned and left.
She felt completely drained and wanted nothing more than to clean herself up.
However, Rose’s "unrepentant" attitude caused Samantha’s brows to knit tightly together, and an indescribable anger welled up inside her.
She had lost a great deal of face today.
And it had happened in front of so many professors, university officials, and students who might one day become her classmates if she succeeded in becoming Dr. Leo’s doctoral student.
Furthermore, Rose had undoubtedly made an excellent impression on the university leadership and distinguished herself in front of everyone.
The Taylor family would likely value Rose even more in the future.

The thought left Samantha feeling increasingly uneasy.
"Ryan, she doesn’t seem willing to apologize." Samantha took a deep breath, sounding both helpless and aggrieved. "I thought she would just apologize to me and we could put this behind us."
Only then did Ryan glance in Rose’s direction.
"Why don’t you go to the infirmary and apply an ice pack?" he said.
His concern immediately brightened Samantha’s expression. She glanced at the suit jacket Rose had thrown aside.
"It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt anymore. As long as Dr. Grace is okay, that’s all that matters." She lowered her eyes slightly. "It’s just a pity that I didn’t get to spend more time with him. And it’ll probably be difficult for me to come up with another good project anytime soon..."
"It won’t be difficult."
Ryan’s tone was casual as he walked over and picked up the jacket, his eyes dark and unreadable.
Samantha looked at him questioningly.
*****
Rose returned to her nearby apartment.
Her skirt was torn, and her knees were scraped, so she needed to clean herself up before returning to work.
The hot water stung her wounds, causing her to shudder in pain.
Rose hissed softly a few times before gradually growing accustomed to the sting.
She hadn’t had time to treat the injuries after leaving the university, so after cleaning up, she returned to G.S.
Just as she was about to change into her lab coat, Caleb rushed in, slightly out of breath.
"Dr. Grace has stabilized," he said. "My father just called. Apparently, Dr. Grace has been working on a research project for the past month and has been pulling all-nighters. At his age, that’s simply too much."
Someone of Dr. Grace’s age should have retired long ago.
But with great power comes great responsibility.
The burden on his shoulders was immense, and he had devoted himself entirely to the nation’s medical advancement.
Rose quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
She was grateful that, for some reason, she had brought that bottle of pills with her today.
It contained several rare, high-grade medicinal herbs ground into powder and formulated specifically for conditions like this. The effectiveness was comparable to a stroke medication currently selling domestically for more than a thousand dollars per pill.

Had she not brought the medicine, Dr. Grace’s condition might have become far more critical.
"Do you realize how famous you’ve become?" Caleb finally caught his breath, grinning from ear to ear. "You’re a hero. Dr. Grace isn’t an ordinary figure—he’s one of the pillars of the medical community. By saving him, you’ve practically secured another decade of progress for our field. News of what you did has already spread throughout the university and the medical community."
Rose had become a genuine rising star.
"And that medicine you gave Dr. Grace—the hospital says the results were remarkable. They’ll probably want to know exactly what it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if NYU reaches out to you soon."
"It’s a formula I developed myself," Rose said. "I’ve never made it public."
"That’s even better. I think the focus will shift to that medication next. Barring any surprises, it’ll probably be officially recorded and evaluated."
Caleb was in excellent spirits.
He could already imagine Rose’s brilliant future.
Saving Dr. Grace alone was enough to earn recognition and commendation from the higher authorities.
Combined with her medical skills and her proprietary formula, the higher-ups would likely spend considerable time discussing how to reward her.
But Rose was already an exceptionally appointed associate professor. There was hardly anywhere left to promote her.
The question now was simply how they intended to recognize her contributions.
Rose, however, wasn’t particularly concerned about any of that.
She hadn’t been thinking about rewards while saving a life.
Especially not when it came to Dr. Grace—a remarkable woman who had devoted her life to medicine.
All Rose had wanted was for her to survive.
"Mr. Byrne, we have visitors."
An assistant approached from behind.
Rose looked over. "Who is it?"
The assistant scratched his head. "Mr. Knight from Kingswell."
Rose was immediately puzzled.
What was Ryan doing here?
Exchanging a glance with Caleb, Rose followed the assistant upstairs, still wearing her lab coat.
The unexpected visitors were not limited to Ryan.
Samantha was seated calmly beside him.
She appeared to be in excellent spirits, as if celebrating some happy occasion. Her expression was noticeably brighter as she elegantly crossed her legs and leaned toward Ryan to whisper something. Her eyes curved into a smile.
When Rose entered, Ryan finally looked up.
Having worked in the industry for years, Caleb naturally understood the importance of maintaining good business relationships.
"What brings you here today, Mr. Knight?" he asked politely.

Rose hadn’t had a single sip of water all day.
While they exchanged pleasantries, she walked into the break room and poured herself a glass of water.
As she turned around, cup in hand, she noticed that Ryan had already changed clothes.
The suit jacket he had draped over her shoulders earlier was gone.
He had changed into an entirely new outfit.
It almost seemed as though he had deliberately discarded the one she had touched.
The implied disgust was obvious.
Rose silently curled her lips.
"I’m here today to discuss a partnership with President Byrne."
A faint smile appeared at the corners of Ryan’s lips, though it did nothing to soften his cold demeanor.
"Please go ahead, Mr. Knight."
"Ms. Bennett, could you pour me a glass of water first?"
Samantha suddenly turned toward Rose, who was still standing near the break room, and spoke with practiced elegance.
Rose blinked.
For some reason, Samantha seemed to be intentionally projecting an air of superiority and authority.
Rose chose not to take it personally.
After all, a guest was still a guest.
She brewed two cups of tea and placed them in front of them.
Ryan watched her approach.
There was a subtle stiffness in her gait, caused by the fabric of her pants brushing against the scrape on her knee.
His gaze lingered for two seconds.
Then he looked away.
Seeing that Rose could not maintain any airs within G.S., Samantha became convinced that Rose was not particularly important within the company.
She glanced down at the tea. "Mr. Byrne, perhaps you don’t know this, but Rose intentionally assaulted me today."

Rose was not surprised.
So Samantha really had come to collect a debt.
She simply sat down on the single sofa across from them, folded her arms, and waited for Samantha to continue.
Caleb had indeed been unaware of the incident, but he remained completely calm.
Was it really against public morality for a wife to slap her husband’s mistress?
"What exactly are you suggesting, Miss Hill?" he asked.
"Perhaps Rose saved Dr. Grace today and brought great honor to G.S. That’s certainly a tremendous achievement, and the company’s reputation will rise because of it. I’m sure Mr. Byrne wouldn’t want anything to happen to Rose that could negatively affect the company, and I understand that."
She paused before continuing. "So I don’t intend to pursue the matter any further. I’ll simply consider it a favor to Mr. Byrne."
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "Miss Hill, please speak plainly."
A confident smile appeared on Samantha’s lips.
"Ryan and I came here today to discuss something with you."
She looked directly at Caleb. "I would like to purchase a stake in G.S."
