Chapter 210: Chapter 210 The Slap That Silenced the Room

Professor Bill had maintained a calm and polite demeanor while chatting with them, but the moment the exceptionally appointed associate professor was mentioned, his expression visibly brightened.

It was obvious that he held this mysterious professor in very high regard.

This only made Samantha more curious.

She had already planned to meet this person, and if even Professor Bill spoke so highly of them, they must possess genuine talent. Building a relationship with them would certainly benefit her in the future.

Ryan also followed Professor Bill’s line of sight.

Just then, someone announced, “Dr. Grace has arrived.”

Professor Bill immediately withdrew his gaze and turned toward the entrance.

Samantha felt slightly disappointed that she hadn’t seen the exceptional professor, but Dr. Grace’s arrival quickly lifted her spirits again.

Ryan, however, did not move.

His gaze remained fixed in the direction where Professor Bill had been looking moments earlier.

In the southeast corner of the room, a crowd had gathered. Through the shifting figures, he could faintly make out a familiar, slender silhouette.

Rose was sitting there.

Samantha said softly, “Ryan, Dr. Grace is here. Why don’t you come with me and greet her?”

Ryan finally withdrew his gaze.

Remembering Daisy’s advice, Samantha knew she needed to build a good relationship with the Taylor family.

As she saw Grace approaching, a graceful smile appeared on her face.

“Dr. Grace—”

Grace seemed not to notice her at all. She walked right past Samantha without even slowing down.

The smile on Samantha’s lips froze.

She turned to look.

Her expression instantly darkened.

Grace had walked directly toward Rose.

James, who had also witnessed the scene, was equally puzzled.

His grandmother had always been proud and reserved, yet she seemed to have an inexplicable fondness for Rose.

Seeing Grace approach, Rose immediately stood up.

“Dr. Grace.”

Grace looked at her. Despite everything that had happened involving the Taylor family and Trevor, she gently patted Rose on the arm.

“Rose, don’t be so formal. Just act naturally. I won’t mix business with personal matters.”

She understood that, given her status and the recent events that may have offended Rose, the young woman might feel pressured or uncomfortable. Grace did not want that.

Rose was somewhat surprised.

Was Grace actually worried that she might feel anxious?

Grace had only come over to greet her. After speaking, she waved her hand.

“Well, I’ll be going now.”

The old woman was already eighty years old, yet Rose noticed something unusual.

Grace’s complexion looked pale.

She wondered if the older woman was simply exhausted.

Everything happening here was clearly visible to the others.

Samantha unconsciously clenched her fingers.

She couldn’t understand it.

Rose had supposedly stolen the Taylor family’s future son-in-law’s position, so why had Grace never taken revenge on her?

With Grace’s status, forcing Rose out of the industry would have been effortless.

“Dr. Grace seems to have forgiven Rose for the past,” Samantha said softly.

An uneasy feeling settled in her heart.

James knew that his grandmother always separated personal matters from professional ones.

Still, he was confused.

It seemed that his grandmother, just like him, felt an inexplicable reluctance to harm Rose.

That feeling was strange.

“The issue lies with Trevor. Dr. Grace sees right through him,” Ryan said calmly.

James couldn’t deny it.

At that moment, he looked around.

“Mr. Brown has plenty of connections himself. Why hasn’t Oliver shown up today?”

Samantha’s expression flickered slightly.

“Oliver... has been confined by his family.”

James looked at her. “Because of the project?”

The scandal had caused quite a stir, and he naturally knew about it.

The project had essentially been doomed from the moment it launched.

It had barely entered the trial phase before becoming entangled in a fatal lawsuit.

Any possibility of future collaboration had effectively vanished.

If Ryan had not stepped in, Samantha might have been completely driven out of the industry.

One could imagine how furious Mr. Brown must have been.

“All I know is that Oliver was removed from headquarters and demoted. Mr. Brown is ruthless, even with his own grandson.”

He had heard the rumors.

Oliver had suffered a tremendous setback.

Not only had he paid a massive amount in compensation, but he had also been demoted and transferred to a branch office.

Samantha pressed her lips together and lowered her head.

“It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t misjudged things, Oliver wouldn’t have been dragged into this.”

She did not know how Oliver felt about her now.

If he resented her because of this, it would be very unfavorable for her future.

Ryan said nothing.

He simply idly played with his lighter.

He had known about Oliver’s situation all along.

For the next several years, the old man would probably never entrust Oliver with any major responsibilities.

A demotion and transfer were far more devastating than losing tens of millions.

The price was enormous.

The academic lecture proceeded smoothly.

Rose kept a low profile throughout the entire event, listening attentively.

Today’s lecture proved immensely valuable to her.

At the same time, she gained an even deeper understanding of why Dr. Grace was regarded as a national treasure.

After all, she was a remarkable woman who had won the Nobel Prize in her sixties.

She had made extraordinary contributions to the field of medicine in the United States.

Rose packed up her bag.

Just as she was about to look for Leo, a cry suddenly rang out from the front.

“Dr. Grace!”

“Oh no! Dr. Grace has collapsed!”

Rose’s heart skipped a beat.

She immediately remembered Grace’s pale complexion from earlier and hurried forward.

A crowd had already gathered around the podium.

Everyone looked panicked.

Some people rushed to call the campus infirmary.

Others dialed 911 to request an ambulance from the affiliated hospital.

There were no emergency medical supplies available, so all they could do was wait.

When Rose pushed through the crowd, she discovered that Samantha had already rushed forward to administer first aid.

James’s expression changed as he dropped to his knees beside his grandmother.

Rose did not focus on Samantha’s actions.

Instead, she carefully observed Grace’s symptoms.

Her jaw was clenched.

Her fists were tightly closed.

A rattling sound came from her throat.

This appeared to be a stroke brought on by overexertion.

Samantha was already checking her pupils.

“I’ll begin CPR,” she said.

Rose’s expression changed immediately.

“Let me take a look.”

At this moment, turning Grace’s head to the side to prevent choking was far more urgent than beginning CPR.

Rose instinctively crouched down.

But Samantha glared at her.

“This is Dr. Grace! Are you still trying to steal the spotlight at a time like this, Rose? Please don’t delay treatment!”

She knew very well how much recognition and prestige would come from saving Grace.

Rose clearly understood that as well.

That was why Samantha believed Rose had deliberately stepped forward.

Rose was genuinely furious.

A human life was at stake.

And this was Dr. Grace—a pioneer who had made tremendous contributions to medicine.

Yet Samantha was still wasting precious time.

With a cold expression, Rose pushed Samantha aside, knelt beside Grace, and carefully turned her head to one side.

She paid no attention to the vomit staining her hands.

Seeing Rose step in, Samantha reached out to stop her.

“Where’s security? Get her out of here!”

Rose had been interrupted repeatedly and prevented from administering first aid.

Her anger finally erupted.

Her cold, beautiful face turned completely icy.

She spun around and slapped Samantha hard across the face.

The sharp sound echoed through the room.

“Have you calmed down?”

Her voice was ice cold. “If you have, then get out of my way.”
