Chapter 204: Chapter 204 The Reason Behind His Visit
Her remark caught him off guard.
Ryan narrowed his eyes slightly, meeting her gaze. He caught the trace of sarcasm and calculation in Rose’s eyes.
He remained silent.
The reason Rose had said something so shocking was simple: she wanted to disgust these people.
After all, she knew exactly what mattered most to them.
Daisy had spoken with complete self-righteousness, openly implying that Ryan would help them solve the problem. Her “name your price” comment was nothing more than a way of telling Rose that they intended to use her own “husband’s” money to buy her off.
Rose was genuinely astonished by their audacity.
Since they cared so much about Ryan, why didn’t they simply call their “son-in-law” over and show off their influence?
Why should she play along?
Her sudden and unexpected “honey” split the seemingly harmonious gathering straight down the middle.
Samantha’s eyes flashed with anger.
Instinctively, she glanced around. After all, some people already knew about the relationship between Rose and Ryan. She couldn’t openly lash out at Rose, or it would become a public relations disaster.
But Rose was simply shameless.
Knowing full well what kind of relationship existed between her and Ryan, she still called him that in public. She had absolutely no sense of boundaries.
“You—”
Daisy’s expression darkened as well, realizing that Rose was deliberately humiliating them.
“Rose, you can’t even manage your career properly. Why are you always thinking about being a pampered wife?”
Rose nearly laughed.
One word—honey—had made them this furious.
And now they were trying to put her in her place.
“Then what about your daughter, who’s always thinking about living off other people’s husbands and spending their money? A parasite? A leech? In that case, I certainly can’t compete with her ‘talent.’”
Rose was never one to back down in an argument.
Samantha’s expression grew even darker.
It would be a lie to say she wasn’t angry.
Rose was clearly mocking her.
Oliver was equally stunned.
How dare Rose do something like that?
In the past, Rose had never been allowed to take the initiative to get close to Ryan in public, let alone call him honey.
Seeing them speechless, Rose turned to leave with Diana.
But just as she turned around, she unexpectedly met Ryan’s gaze.
He still stood there with one hand in his pocket. As he looked at her, a faint, ambiguous smile appeared on his lips—half amusement, half mockery.
Rose frowned immediately.
His reaction unsettled her.
To be honest, during all the years of their marriage, she had never once called Ryan honey.
Now she had done it in front of Samantha.
He probably found it ironic.
Perhaps he was even angry.
Anger was exactly what she wanted.
She intended to provoke them.
She couldn’t be bothered with him and continued walking.
But Ryan suddenly spoke. “Are you going home today?”
He was asking Rose.
Samantha turned sharply to look at him, biting her lip.
Rose was also surprised by his sudden concern.
She replied simply, “No.”
“Alright.”
Ryan didn’t say another word.
He didn’t persuade her.
He didn’t coax her.
It felt like nothing more than empty politeness.
Completely insincere.
Before Rose could react, he had already turned and walked away.
Diana was furious. “What is he trying to do? It’s almost like he’s hoping you won’t go back.”
Rose understood.
But she shrugged indifferently. “It’s not my home anymore anyway.”
They hadn’t gone far when Oliver caught up with them.
His expression was complicated. “Rose, it’s just a matter of issuing a certificate. It can’t be that difficult, can it?”
He wanted to shift the focus away from the project and onto those two experts as quickly as possible.
If they could save the project, keep a low profile for a while, and rebuild later, there might still be hope.
They had to act quickly.
But Rose was the owner of New Hope. Without her approval, nothing could move forward.
Rose stopped, turned around, and smiled at Oliver.
She was undeniably beautiful.
Her small oval face carried striking features, but when she smiled, the dimples in her cheeks softened her otherwise cool and elegant appearance.
For a brief moment, even Oliver was caught off guard.
But the next second, Rose said: “Then you’d better get your eyes checked next time. Don’t invest blindly in the future. Learning an expensive lesson isn’t such a bad thing, Mr. Brown.”
Rose had struck him precisely where it hurt most.
Oliver’s face darkened instantly.
But Rose had already taken Diana’s arm and walked away.

Once they were out of earshot, Diana burst into laughter.
“They’re all getting exactly what they deserve. Not a single one of them is getting away with it!”
Oliver had repeatedly ignored Rose’s advice, blindly sided with the mistress, and poured a fortune into Samantha’s project.
Now this had happened.
Wasn’t it simply a case of reaping what he had sown?
Rose had merely told the truth.
She felt much better afterward.
After all, these were personal choices, and people had to bear the consequences of their own decisions. Oliver’s demand that she help clean up the mess had been unreasonable from the beginning.
The rest of the day went exceptionally well for Rose.
She got along well with the medical professional from Washington, D.C., and the other party expressed a willingness to sign a contract with G.S.
Rose had scored another victory.
By the time she finished work, it was nearly seven o’clock.
She checked the date and called the hospital where her grandfather was staying.
She called every other day to check on his condition.
As soon as the call connected, the nurse said cheerfully, “Ms. Bennett.”
Rose got into her car. “How is my grandfather today?”
“He’s doing very well. The old gentleman even ate an extra half bowl of congee today.”
“That well?”
Rose smiled. “I guess he’s in a good mood.”
“You could say that. His grandson-in-law came to visit him.”
The smile on Rose’s lips instantly disappeared.
“Who?”
“Your husband, Mr. Knight.”
Rose’s expression changed slightly.
Ryan had gone to see her grandfather?
Which meant he had only come because he needed something, didn’t he?
She immediately turned the car around and headed straight for the hospital.
When Rose arrived, she pushed open the door and immediately saw a surprisingly warm scene.
Ryan had taken off his suit jacket and draped it over the back of a chair. The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up as he bent over, adjusting the angle of Gabriel’s hospital bed.
The man who had once never lifted a finger at home now seemed perfectly capable of caring for an elderly patient.
When Gabriel saw Rose, his eyes showed a moment of confusion before recognition slowly returned.
“RoRo, come here.”
Rose walked over, and Ryan stepped aside to make room for her.
Gabriel smiled kindly. “How come both of you had time to visit me today?”
Rose couldn’t tell him the truth.
“I’m not busy anymore.”
“That’s good. Don’t work yourselves too hard. Ryan brought some fruit over there. Go wash some and have some together.”
Rose hesitated for a moment.
She walked over and opened the fruit box.
Ryan sat beside the bed, tucked the blanket around the old man, and suddenly said, “Think carefully about how you used to bring her home when she was little.”
The topic changed abruptly.
Rose looked over immediately.
Was Ryan asking about the details of her background?
Back when Gabriel had fallen unconscious, he had muttered something in his delirium, and Ryan had overheard it.
Gabriel’s cloudy eyes became even more confused.
“Let me think... Her mother brought her home from...”
