Chapter 163: Chapter 163 A Trap Against G.S.

No one actually knew the answer to that.

James was feeling restless and didn’t have the patience to dwell on Aster’s situation.

"Maybe geniuses like that just don’t care about those things," he said. "There are always people who aren’t interested in fame or fortune."

Samantha thought about it and agreed.

A genius like Aster, who had single-handedly compiled such a massive database—including formulas considered top-tier trade secrets in the industry—could probably create a new prescription at a moment’s notice.

Naturally, someone like that wouldn’t be overly concerned about a few formulas.

The value of the database was precisely why the licensing fees were so astronomical.

She had already accepted that reality.

Turning to Ryan, who was leisurely sipping his drink, she smiled softly.

"Ryan, my mom wants to treat you to dinner. You’ve been helping me every step of the way since this project started, and that’s why everything has gone so smoothly."

Oliver was in an exceptionally good mood, thinking about the project’s upcoming success.

He immediately raised his glass. "Meeting the parents? I think it’s a great idea."

Ryan’s expression remained indifferent, with only the faintest curve at the corner of his lips.

Samantha blushed and covered her mouth with a laugh.

"It’s just a private dinner."

James glanced over and raised his glass as well.

"Cheers."

In the days following the gathering at the Taylor family estate, Rose had been so busy that she barely had time to think about what had happened there.

Everything continued as usual.

Grace hadn’t shown any signs of dissatisfaction toward her.

Rose had expected that even if Grace didn’t retaliate directly, she would at least encounter some obstacles within the industry.

But nothing happened.

Still, she found herself worrying about Grace.

In the end, it all came down to how deeply Grace missed her granddaughter.

For years, she had clung to the engagement between the Taylor and Robinson families as a source of comfort, believing her granddaughter would eventually return home.

Now, even that last thread of hope seemed to be unraveling.

But everyone had their own perspective.

Rose could understand both Trevor and the Taylor family.

Everyone had their reasons.

Meanwhile, her project remained in its early stages. There were countless technical challenges to overcome and numerous details requiring her supervision.

If she could successfully expand into other smart healthcare projects, it would save significant time and money.

Around noon, during the lunch break, her coworkers headed downstairs one after another.

Rose received a call from Caleb.

"Caleb?"

"Come downstairs. Something’s happened."

As soon as Rose stepped out of the elevator, she saw a woman sprawled across the lobby entrance.

The woman, who appeared to be in her forties, was wailing loudly, attracting a growing crowd.

Employees from neighboring companies had gathered to watch, and many were already taking photos.

The lobby echoed with accusations: "G.S Pharmaceuticals is killing people!"

"They’re profiting off human lives!"

Only after spotting Rose did Caleb step forward with a frown.

"Apparently, her husband took one of our medications and suffered severe side effects. He’s already unconscious."

Rose’s expression darkened. "That’s impossible. There are countless causes of medical emergencies."

"I’ve explained that repeatedly," Caleb said. "But she refuses to listen. If this continues, public opinion could turn against us very quickly."

Rose looked at the man lying in the woman’s arms.

Ignoring Caleb’s attempt to stop her, she walked straight over.

The woman immediately pointed at Rose and screamed, "You heartless monsters! Give me back my husband’s life!"

Rose crouched beside the unconscious man.

"Instead of taking him to the hospital when he collapsed, you dragged him here to a pharmaceutical company. Are you genuinely worried about saving his life, or are you worried about losing your chance to extort money from us?"

The woman’s expression stiffened, and she became even more hysterical.

"Are you wishing my husband dead? How can you be so vicious? Is this how G.S treats ordinary people?"

Rose ignored her outburst and reached for the man’s wrist.

Although they were at a pharmaceutical company, most people assumed only medical researchers worked there.

What they didn’t know was that Rose had practiced medicine for more than a decade. Even many experienced physicians might not match her clinical skills.

The woman suddenly lunged forward and tried to scratch her.

Several bright red marks instantly appeared on Rose’s fair skin.

But Rose didn’t release the man’s wrist.

Her face remained cold and composed as she continued assessing him.

A moment later, she looked directly into the woman’s evasive eyes.

"Acute cerebral infarction. He’s still within the critical treatment window. Have you completely lost your mind dragging him around like this?"

This had absolutely nothing to do with G.S.’s medication.

The woman was visibly intimidated by Rose’s firm and authoritative tone.

Rose turned toward Caleb.

"Have someone bring me the emergency medical kit and call 911. I’ll stabilize him until the paramedics arrive."

Rose moved swiftly.

Years of training under Dr. Nathan Hale, one of the country’s most respected physicians and medical researchers, had prepared her for situations like this.

She immediately positioned the man on his side to protect his airway, monitored his breathing and pulse, and issued a series of calm, precise instructions to the staff around her.

Within moments, the man’s condition began to stabilize.

Her hands remained steady and confident throughout.

The woman forgot all about causing a scene.

By the time the ambulance arrived, the commotion had completely died down.

The crowd gradually dispersed.

Caleb handed Rose a disinfecting wipe.

"Here. Clean your hands."

Then he let out a relieved sigh.

"Thank goodness your medical skills are exceptional. If public opinion had gotten out of control today, it could have been disastrous."

Rose had studied medicine under Dr. Nathan for more than ten years.

She was a natural prodigy.

Many people with more impressive credentials on paper weren’t nearly as skilled when it came to diagnosing and treating patients.

Still, Rose frowned. "This situation isn’t normal."

Caleb paused. "What do you mean?"

"They came straight to our building to make a scene. It feels like someone was deliberately trying to target G.S."

If she hadn’t known medicine, escaping the situation unscathed would have been difficult.

While incidents like this weren’t uncommon in hospitals or pharmaceutical companies, the damage to public perception could be devastating.

Sometimes a single spark was all it took to start a wildfire.

Caleb considered her words.

Rose shook her head. "It’s too early to draw conclusions. Let’s focus on handling the emergency properly first."

They would need to visit the hospital later and speak with the woman to fully understand what had happened.

Caleb agreed.

Situations like this weren’t rare in the industry.

But because they worked in healthcare, they couldn’t allow a small minority of bad actors to discourage them.

They had to keep moving forward.

After returning upstairs, Rose carefully restocked and organized her emergency medical kit.

She always kept it within reach.

Perhaps it was a physician’s instinct, but after years of practicing medicine, she had developed the habit of being prepared for the unexpected. If someone needed immediate medical assistance, she wanted to be ready.

It was late afternoon.

There was still an hour left before the workday ended.

Her assistant knocked on the door.

"Dr. Bennett, President Byrne would like to see you in his office."

When Rose entered, she immediately saw Samantha sitting elegantly on the sofa, dressed in designer brands from head to toe.

Caleb’s expression was unreadable.

The moment Samantha saw Rose, she crossed her legs and continued speaking.

"President Byrne, I heard there was an incident at G.S today. A fatality, perhaps? Several members of our project team are very concerned and wanted me to ask whether this situation could affect our partnership."

Caleb frowned. "What exactly are you implying, Miss Hill?"

Samantha tilted her chin slightly, her expression appearing concerned, though her eyes revealed a trace of arrogance.

"The entire project team is invested in this project’s success. They’re worried that partnering with G.S’s database could negatively affect us."

She paused. "After all, if someone actually died because of your products, it could become a major source of criticism for our future product."

"Just say what you really mean," Rose said flatly.

She had no interest in Samantha’s roundabout approach.

Samantha’s expression immediately cooled.

"President Byrne, you’re the CEO of G.S. You should really keep your employees in line before they become too full of themselves."

Who did Rose think she was?

Interfering in executive-level discussions?

Finally, Samantha got to the point. "I’d like to discuss lowering the licensing fee to eight million dollars. Please give it serious consideration, President Byrne."

Rose nearly laughed.

The original licensing fee exceeded thirty million dollars.

And Samantha wanted to slash almost thirty million off the price.

Wasn’t that simply taking advantage of the situation to get something for nothing?
