Chapter 151: Chapter 151 I Will Cover Today’s Losses

A wave of alarmed gasps swept through the room.

The sharp crash of tumbling wine glasses echoed everywhere.

It all happened too fast.

Rose didn’t even have time to react.

In that split second, she realized there was no way to dodge it.

Instinctively, she turned and raised her arms to shield her most vulnerable areas.

Before she could move any further, a dark figure rushed toward her at lightning speed.

The light in front of her vanished.

A strong arm wrapped around her waist.

She felt only a familiar warmth.

Then something heavy came crashing down.

The impact struck the person holding her, causing a slight jolt that sent her tumbling backward onto a nearby sofa.

Instinctively, Rose grabbed the front of his shirt.

Everything had happened in the blink of an eye.

The massive wine rack slammed onto the marble counter.

Glass shattered across the floor.

Sharp shards flew in every direction.

A large hand suddenly appeared in front of her face, shielding her just in time.

Rose’s pupils trembled.

The hand only inches away from her was already covered in blood.

Startled, she looked up.

Her eyes met a pair of dark, familiar eyes.

For a brief moment, she saw unmistakable anger in Ryan’s gaze.

The man who normally remained calm no matter what happened looked genuinely frightening.

Blood dripped from the hand that had protected her.

Yet the first thing Ryan did was scan her from head to toe.

As if making sure she hadn’t been hurt.

Only after confirming she was unharmed did he grab her arm and pull her to her feet.

"Are you hurt?"

His voice was cold.

Rose’s ears rang.

For a moment, she almost forgot how to speak.

"Ryan! Are you okay?"

Before she could gather her thoughts, someone shoved her aside.

Turning around, she saw Samantha had already stepped in front of Ryan.

The concern on her face was impossible to miss.

Red wine had soaked through their clothes, leaving them looking particularly disheveled.

As she examined Ryan’s injuries, Samantha suddenly turned toward Rose.

Her eyes were cold. "Ryan got hurt because of you. Don’t you think you’re bringing bad luck wherever you go?"

She sounded every bit like a wife demanding justice for her injured husband.

Rose, however, had no time to argue.

Nor did she have the energy to care where Ryan had been injured.

Without asking another question, she immediately looked toward Ariel.

The scene was complete chaos.

The collapsed wine rack had affected a large area.

People were shouting.

Broken glass covered the floor.

If Rose remembered correctly, Ariel had been standing nearby.

Even an adult might not have escaped unharmed.

What about a child?

Rose rushed forward.

The moment she saw Trevor holding Ariel tightly in his arms, her heart finally settled.

Trevor had completely shielded Ariel.

Broken glass littered the floor around them.

A faint scratch marked his cheek.

But neither of them appeared seriously injured.

Suppressing the urge to pull Ariel into her own arms, Rose hurried over.

Her voice trembled.

"Are... are you okay?"

The words came out unevenly.

Trevor could clearly see the fear lingering in her eyes.

She had been terrified something might have happened to Ariel.

Yet to everyone else, it looked as though she was worried about him.

Leaning against the sofa, Ryan glanced over.

His expression remained unreadable.

Trevor met Rose’s gaze.

His voice was deep and reassuring.

"Rose, I’m fine. Everything’s fine."

He gently patted Ariel’s back. "I got there in time. Ariel is fine, and I’m fine too."

As he spoke, his gaze briefly shifted toward Ryan, who had already stood up.

Everything had happened too quickly.

Even if Trevor had wanted to save Rose, he wouldn’t have reached her in time.

Ariel had been there.

And Trevor knew exactly how important Ariel was to Rose.

As for Ryan...

That had happened in an instant.

Fortunately, Rose hadn’t been hurt.

Ariel’s eyes were red.

The moment she saw Rose, she stretched out her arms and hugged her from Trevor’s embrace.

Then she rubbed her eyes.

"Don’t be scared, Mommy. Ariel is okay."

Her voice grew quieter. "I’m sorry..."

The little girl looked genuinely upset.

If she hadn’t insisted on protecting her hairband, maybe none of this would have happened.

Maybe Rose wouldn’t have been frightened.

Maybe she wouldn’t have nearly been injured.

Ariel couldn’t help glancing toward Ryan, whose white shirt was now stained with wine.

Rose crouched down and looked directly at her.

"It’s not your fault, sweetheart."

Her voice was gentle but firm. "You didn’t knock over the table."

Perhaps her words were too pointed.

Samantha’s expression immediately darkened.

"Then why did you drag Ryan over there just to protect yourself?"

The moment those words left her mouth, Trevor’s gaze turned icy.

Sensing the tension, he calmly covered Ariel’s ears and gave Rose a reassuring look.

Rose thought she must have misheard.

Slowly, she turned around.

The surrounding guests were finally recovering from the shock.

Everyone had been terrified.

A wine rack that large collapsing wasn’t a minor accident.

And Samantha’s accusation suddenly reminded everyone of something.

Why had Ryan protected Rose?

If Rose had pulled him over, then the scene they had just witnessed made much more sense.

Samantha’s smile disappeared.

Her eyes were filled with accusation.

"You’ve already ruined Ryan’s clothes."

She looked at Rose coldly. "Please don’t drag other people into your problems."

Following her gaze, many people looked toward Ryan.

His shirt was indeed wrinkled and disheveled.

The situation quickly became awkward.

One woman was President Knight’s girlfriend.

The other was President Robinson’s companion.

Nobody wanted to offend either side.

Noticing everyone’s hesitation, Samantha softened her tone.

Almost magnanimously, she said, "Ryan was standing beside me. He was about to take my hand and lead me away."

She sighed lightly. "I never expected Rose to pull him over first."

She smiled faintly. "Still, even if it was a misunderstanding, Ryan ended up helping someone. That’s a good thing."

Then her gaze sharpened. "But Rose, not only are you ungrateful, you’re even implying someone else is responsible. Isn’t that a little inappropriate?"

Moments earlier, Rose had said it wasn’t Ariel’s fault.

Who else could she have been implying?

Mike?

Samantha couldn’t say it directly.

Not with Trevor standing there.

Rose stared at her.

She genuinely hadn’t expected Samantha to twist the situation this far.

As though she had deliberately dragged Ryan into danger.

As though Samantha herself were the victim.

Her eyes grew colder.

Only after seeing Trevor cover Ariel’s ears did she finally speak.

"So that’s how it is."

Her voice was calm. "Your brother acts like a little bully, ruins someone else’s grand opening, causes this entire mess, and you’re still looking for someone else to blame?"

She looked directly at Samantha.

"Ms. Hill, don’t you feel even the slightest bit guilty?"

Her tone sharpened. "If today’s opening ceremony is ruined because of your brother, whose fault is that?"

Samantha’s face instantly darkened.

A bully?

A little beast?

Rose’s words were a direct slap across the face.

Normally, Rose was far more restrained.

But this time, Samantha couldn’t argue.

Everyone had seen exactly what happened.

Mike had caused the accident.

Sure enough, the venue owner’s expression immediately darkened.

Rose wasn’t wrong.

A perfectly successful opening event had been ruined.

Just then, a deep voice sounded from behind them.

"It’s my responsibility."

The calm, magnetic voice instantly silenced the room.

Everyone turned.

Ryan leaned against the sofa.

His white shirt was stained with red wine.

Dark eyes fixed steadily on Rose.

"I’ll cover today’s losses."

His voice was even. "Kingswell will also handle all related promotional expenses."

One sentence.

That was all it took.

The conflict that had been about to erupt instantly died down.

Rose met his gaze.

The feeling was like having acid poured over an open wound.

Moments ago, she had cornered Samantha, leaving her with no defense.

Yet with a single sentence, Ryan had stepped forward as Samantha’s shield.

Her support.

Her confidence.

Almost instantly, Samantha’s expression softened.

She looked at Ryan with undisguised affection.

Then she glanced at Rose.

The satisfaction and superiority in her eyes were impossible to miss.

A faint smile curved her lips.

"Rose," she asked softly, "are you satisfied with that answer?"
