Chapter 149: Chapter 149 Airel Call Rose Mom
To Rose, that voice was like a thorn in her side.
Every time she heard it, an uncontrollable wave of irritation washed over her.
She turned to look.
Not far away, two adults and a child had just stepped out of a car.
Standing between Ryan and Samantha, Mike seemed to serve as the link connecting them, creating the image of a close-knit family.
Ryan was dressed more casually than usual. His crisp white shirt gave him an air of effortless elegance.
Beside him, Samantha appeared to have deliberately coordinated her outfit with his. She wore a white Chanel ensemble, looking refined and sophisticated.
Together, they made a striking pair.
Rose couldn’t help letting out a soft laugh.
Her eyes were filled with undisguised sarcasm.
So Ryan really had spent the entire day with Samantha.
While she had been turned away from Kingswell, the two of them had been enjoying themselves without a care in the world.
Trevor glanced in their direction as well.
His gaze was cold and detached.
After hearing Mike’s voice, Ryan looked over.
His eyes narrowed slightly for a brief moment.
Rose was smiling warmly at Ariel, while Trevor stood nearby watching over them.
The scene looked remarkably like a family of three.
A faint frown appeared between Samantha’s brows before she silently scoffed.
Ryan’s gaze swept from Rose to Trevor before finally settling on the well-behaved Ariel.
He gave a slight nod.
"Mr. Robinson."
Trevor looked at him calmly.
"Is this child your son, Mr. Knight?"
Even Rose’s eyebrows twitched slightly.
Ryan’s expression remained unchanged.
"You’re mistaken, Mr. Robinson. I don’t have any children."
Trevor studied him for several seconds before nodding.
"I see. For a moment, I thought you were secretly married with a child. After all, you seem quite devoted to Ms. Hill and her brother."
Rose immediately sensed the hidden meaning behind those words.
Ryan, however, showed no reaction whatsoever.
Samantha found the comment strangely flattering.
After all, from an outsider’s perspective, she and Ryan truly did look like a young couple raising a child together.
"Mr. Robinson, what a coincidence. Is this little girl your daughter?"
Samantha smiled gently, as though she hadn’t even noticed Rose standing there.
Ryan’s gaze shifted toward Trevor as well.
Trevor answered evenly. "Yes. My daughter, Ariel Robinson."
He deliberately emphasized Ariel’s full name.
Samantha naturally remembered Ariel.
Back when they were in school, Rose had often been the one caring for her.
Now it all seemed clear.
Apparently, Rose had been trying to ingratiate herself with Trevor and his daughter for a very long time, hoping to attach herself to the Robinson family once again.
Still smiling, Samantha asked, "Are you here on a date today, Mr. Robinson? Has Rose already taken things to the next level with you? Have the two of you become close?"
As she spoke, she cast a pointed glance toward Rose.
In her eyes, Rose was openly betraying Ryan.
The divorce hadn’t even been finalized, yet she was already searching for her next relationship.
Ryan deserved to see exactly what kind of woman Rose really was.
Trevor raised his eyes.
His expression remained unchanged.
"That’s our private business."
The smile on Samantha’s face stiffened.
She hadn’t expected Trevor to respond so directly.
Even a vague answer would have supported her insinuations while preserving her dignity.
Instead, she now looked like someone meddling in other people’s affairs.
"Mr. Knight! Mr. Robinson! My apologies for not greeting you sooner!"
The owner of the entertainment complex hurried over from a distance.
Both men were distinguished guests.
Even at a private event, they had to be treated with special care.
By now, many people had noticed the commotion.
The scene before them was difficult to ignore.
It looked as though two happy families had arrived together.
Guests gradually gathered around, eager to satisfy their curiosity.
"Mr. Knight, Mr. Robinson—do you both have children now?"
Many people were already familiar with Ryan and Samantha’s relationship.
Trevor’s personal life, however, remained a mystery.
Now he had suddenly appeared with a child.
And moments ago, everyone had clearly heard Ariel call him "Daddy."
Naturally, curiosity spread quickly.
Many people were especially interested in Rose’s connection to Trevor.
After all, no one had ever heard that Trevor was married.
Before anyone could continue questioning Trevor, Samantha smoothly redirected the attention toward herself.
Only then did she smile and clarify, "No, that’s my younger brother. Ryan and I don’t have children yet."
The moment she spoke, much of the attention shifted away from Trevor and Rose.
Even Rose couldn’t help letting out a quiet laugh.
It was a carefully chosen answer.
One that left plenty of room for interpretation.
Sure enough, someone immediately picked up on it.
"Does that mean we’ll be hearing wedding bells soon? Are you two planning to have children?"
Samantha smiled sweetly.
"Oh, stop teasing us."
Then she added casually, "I’ve been extremely busy lately. Most of you probably know that I’ve established a dedicated project team at New Hope. My focus right now is entirely on work."
She lowered her eyes shyly. "As for personal matters, they can wait. The people around me understand that."
A fresh wave of envy swept through the crowd.
Everyone immediately understood what she was implying.
"Mr. Knight treats Ms. Hill so well."
"Exactly. She can focus entirely on her career because she’s completely secure in her relationship."
"That’s the confidence of a woman who knows she’s loved."
Whenever groups of women gathered, conversations inevitably drifted in that direction.
Samantha didn’t deny any of it.
Instead, she simply smiled brighter.
Rose wasn’t foolish.
She immediately understood the message Samantha was trying to send.
Ryan was willing to wait for her.
Willing to let her focus on her career before discussing marriage.
Rose turned her head.
Unexpectedly, her eyes met Ryan’s.
He hadn’t participated in the conversation.
Nor had he denied any of the assumptions being made.
It was as though he hadn’t noticed Samantha’s hints at all.
Or perhaps he had noticed them and simply chosen not to care.
Rose immediately looked away.
Turning toward Trevor, she said, "Want to take a walk?"
Trevor nodded.
He had no interest in those conversations either.
Out of the corner of her eye, Samantha watched as Trevor left with Rose.
She glanced at Ryan.
He had given Rose only a brief glance before looking away again.
It was obvious he didn’t care that Rose was openly spending time with another man.
Only then did Samantha relax.
Given Trevor’s status, there was no way he would genuinely be interested in Rose.
There was only one explanation.
He was looking for a suitable stepmother for his daughter.
And Rose happened to fit the role.
In other words, Trevor was simply using her.
Trevor was accustomed to associating with accomplished, highly educated women like Samantha.
In her opinion, someone like Rose was suitable only for domestic life—a housewife, a nanny, a woman willing to devote herself to raising someone else’s child.
Without Ariel involved, Trevor would undoubtedly choose the better option.
In the end, Rose would gain nothing.
Ryan would eventually discard her because of her behavior.
And the Robinson family would never accept a divorced woman.
That day wasn’t far away.
*****
Ariel was in an exceptionally good mood.
Before long, she was happily running around and exploring the venue.
Watching her, Rose felt a pang of guilt.
She should have spent more time with Ariel.
Trevor seemed to sense her thoughts.
"If you want to spend more time with her, just let me know."
His voice was gentle. "Ariel’s childhood is important too."
Rose was startled. "Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you?"
Trevor could tell she was still treating him with excessive politeness.
But he didn’t press the issue.
Instead, he said quietly, "Ariel is my daughter too, Rose. I love her just as much as you do."
Rose froze.
For some reason, she didn’t know how to respond.
Fortunately, Ariel came running back before the silence became awkward.
In her hands were three identical rabbit ears hairbands.
Excitedly, she handed one to each of them.
"Matching hairbands! Let’s wear them together!"
Rose stared at the pale pink accessory.
Then she looked at Trevor’s cool, handsome face.
The contrast was almost comical.
She quickly crouched down.
"Sweetie, would you like to pick a different style?"
To her surprise, Trevor didn’t object at all.
He took the clip and attached it without hesitation.
"No need."
He smiled faintly. "As long as Ariel likes it."
Ariel immediately burst into delighted laughter.
Turning triumphantly toward Rose, she announced,
"Mommy, look! Daddy likes it! You should wear yours too!"
But that unexpected word—
"Mommy."
Caused Ryan, who had just walked over, to stop in his tracks.
