Chapter 134: Chapter 134 We are family

Rose’s actions were decisive.

She had accepted Trevor’s ring.

For a brief moment, as Ryan watched her, the neon lights of the city reflected in his eyes, casting sharp flashes of color across his dark pupils.

Yet he could barely see her clearly.

Trevor stood quietly beside Rose, his gaze never leaving her.

Like a man who had just won a hard-fought battle, he radiated confidence and composure.

The atmosphere in the restaurant reached another peak.

Congratulations poured in from every direction.

Caleb, whose expression had briefly stiffened after Ryan’s question, instantly relaxed and raised his glass again.

"Mr. Knight, you’re overthinking it."

He smiled broadly. "Rose isn’t opposed to it at all. Especially not when the man in question is a high-quality bachelor like Mr. Robinson. Why wouldn’t she be willing to get to know him better?"

As he spoke, Caleb glanced meaningfully at Samantha, whose expression had become increasingly difficult to read.

"Besides, our Rose is a little shy."

He laughed. "She’s not the type to make a public proposal. Things like this are much more natural when the man takes the initiative."

It was almost as if Caleb had completely forgotten that Ryan was Rose’s husband.

Every sentence landed like a blade.

Ryan offered no response.

Meanwhile, Caleb was in such high spirits that he spared no expense, personally buying bottles of premium wine and toasting guests at neighboring tables as he made his rounds.

Anyone watching would think he was the one getting married.

Rose could hardly bear to look.

Of course, she knew exactly what Caleb was doing.

He was helping her vent her frustration.

Samantha had practically proposed to Ryan right in front of her.

Worse, she had subtly encouraged the unsuspecting crowd to pressure Rose into photographing the entire thing.

Every action had been a deliberate display of victory.

A calculated attempt to humiliate her.

Rose was grateful.

Trevor’s appearance had disrupted everything.

At the very least, she wouldn’t be haunted by that humiliating scene in her dreams.

She was grateful for Caleb as well.

Having a friend willing to stand up for her felt unexpectedly comforting.

Still, there was one thing she couldn’t ignore.

Her seat directly faced Ryan.

All she had to do was look up.

Everyone else around them was reacting.

Yet her husband of seven years sat there like a detached stranger.

An uninvolved spectator.

Only then did Rose finally realize something.

For all those years, she had truly been treated as less than an afterthought.

"Thank you."

Trevor’s voice pulled her from her thoughts.

Rose looked up.

Trevor was watching her calmly.

In a voice only she could hear, he said, "By accepting the ring, you saved me from being embarrassed in front of everyone. Thank you."

Rose blinked in surprise.

She hadn’t expected him to say that.

Moments earlier, she had worried Ryan would think she couldn’t live without him and was rejecting every other possibility out of lingering attachment.

She had also wondered how she would explain herself if Trevor believed she had genuinely accepted his proposal.

Yet Trevor seemed to understand exactly what she was thinking.

On the surface, he was thanking her.

In reality, he was giving her an easy way out.

As that realization settled in, another thought suddenly crossed her mind.

Trevor’s proposal had been far too abrupt.

And his interruption of Samantha’s plans had been even more deliberate.

Did he really not know that she and Ryan had once been married?

Across the room, Samantha’s expression darkened further.

That ring had been meant for her and Ryan.

Now it was in Rose’s hand.

Rose certainly knew how to steal what belonged to other people.

At least, that was how Samantha saw it.

She simply couldn’t understand it.

Given Trevor Robinson’s status, why would he be interested in Rose?

Rose had been married before.

She was still legally connected to the Knight family.

The more Samantha thought about it, the more convinced she became that Rose must have deliberately approached Trevor.

Perhaps Rose couldn’t stand seeing Samantha’s position in Ryan’s life.

Perhaps she was trying to compete.

Trying to prove she could attract someone even more powerful.

Trevor had obviously been deceived.

That had to be it.

Pressing her lips together, Samantha turned toward Ryan.

A strange sense of reassurance washed over her.

At least Ryan hadn’t been affected by Rose.

At least her little schemes hadn’t awakened any possessive feelings in him.

"Ryan," Samantha said softly, "let’s talk about our situation later. We’ll discuss it in private. After all, neither of us likes putting on a show."

The distance between the tables wasn’t far.

Rose heard every word.

Samantha never clarified what "our situation" referred to.

But given the context, there was only one obvious interpretation.

She wanted to discuss marriage.

She was making her intentions perfectly clear.

Rose looked away.

She had no interest in hearing more.

Turning toward Trevor, she said, "Let’s go sit down and eat."

The G.S. employees immediately rushed over.

They gathered around Rose, cheering and congratulating her.

The atmosphere throughout the restaurant became warm and celebratory.

Caleb couldn’t help glancing back at Ryan.

Samantha was speaking to him.

Ryan leaned slightly closer to listen.

Yet throughout the entire exchange, he never once looked in Rose’s direction.

The sight made Caleb’s chest tighten.

Did Ryan even have a heart?

Seven years.

Rose had been his wife for seven years.

Even if he no longer loved her, how could he remain this indifferent?

Not only had he made no move to stop Trevor’s proposal, but he behaved as though none of it concerned him at all.

Did he truly not care?

Or was he simply so confident that Rose would never leave him?

Once everyone settled into their seats, the conversation naturally shifted.

Someone couldn’t resist asking, "Dr. Rose, how did you meet this gentleman?"

Before Rose could answer, Trevor spoke. "We’re family."

Rose paused.

When she thought about it, the description wasn’t entirely wrong.

Ariel’s mother and Ariel’s father.

That certainly sounded like a family.

Halfway through the meal, Caleb subtly shot Rose a meaningful look.

Rose pretended not to notice.

The dinner passed smoothly.

After it ended, Rose suddenly realized she had left her purse behind.

She returned to retrieve it.

As the elevator doors opened, she stepped inside—

Only to come face-to-face with Ryan, who apparently hadn’t left yet.
