Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Ariel is Trevor’s daughter
That possibility made James laugh in disbelief.
Even though his sister still hadn’t returned home, the marriage contract between the two families was a binding agreement. Her disappearance wasn’t the Taylor family’s fault, and if the Robinson family intended to back out of the arrangement, he would have to accept it.
He understood the situation perfectly well.
With his sister’s whereabouts still unknown, it was unreasonable to expect Trevor to wait forever.
But James’s heart was completely on his sister’s side.
Even knowing it was unfair, he simply couldn’t bring himself to see things from Trevor’s perspective.
He didn’t care if it made him seem overbearing.
All he knew was that his sister could not be wronged.
“I’m going out to take a look.” James slammed his wineglass onto the table.
The Robinson family had never mentioned anything about Trevor having a child.
The sudden appearance of a daughter was something that needed to be verified.
“Mr. Taylor, don’t act impulsively. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding,” Samantha hurriedly said.

Judging by James’s expression, he looked ready to storm out and confront Trevor.
Ryan also turned to look at him, his low, calm voice serving as a reminder.
“The Robinson family isn’t an ordinary family, and Trevor has never been known for reckless behavior.”
Even if the Robinson family no longer wished to wait for the Taylor family’s missing daughter, they would have discussed ending the engagement openly.
They wouldn’t secretly have a child behind the Taylor family’s back.
But one thing was certain.
Ryan’s dark eyes narrowed slightly as he looked toward the direction Trevor had left.
Trevor’s decision to mention his daughter publicly in front of James today was definitely not an accident.
It was, in its own way, a message.
Ryan knew Trevor’s character well.
If Trevor were the type to fool around casually, the engagement wouldn’t have lasted this long.
“I still need to know what’s going on.” James turned and strode out.
Samantha felt as though she’d been bombarded with shocking information all day. Turning to Ryan, she asked, “Should we go take a look too?”
Ryan set down his wineglass.
“Yeah.”

Rose pulled into the parking lot.
Ariel had already unbuckled herself and hopped out of the car.
Rose followed more slowly. The security at the venue was reliable enough.
Just then, someone from the lab called.
Rose stayed in the driver’s seat, keeping an eye on Ariel while answering the phone.
Then she spotted Trevor.
His tall, imposing figure had just appeared at the entrance.
Only then did she relax and let Ariel run ahead.
Trevor’s pace wasn’t particularly fast.
Meanwhile, James arrived beneath the hotel’s Roman columns, followed closely by Ryan and the others.
Ryan normally had little interest in other people’s private affairs, but James wasn’t sure whether he might do something impulsive.
Just as they approached—
A sweet, childish voice rang out nearby.

“Daddy!”
Ryan’s long strides abruptly halted.
His gaze instantly shifted toward the source of the voice.
A small figure puffed up the steps as fast as her little legs could carry her.
Trevor immediately crouched down and scooped her into his arms.
The entire exchange happened in an instant.
Only then did Ryan clearly see the child’s face.
Ariel.
Ariel Robinson.
He silently repeated the name in his mind.
But Ariel, thrilled to see Trevor after so long, wrapped her arms around his neck and called out again.
“Daddy, you must be tired from your flight!”
The word Daddy struck Ryan’s ears like a sharp blow.
The little girl’s bright smile revealed deep dimples, sweet enough to make it impossible to look away.
And strangely familiar.
Ryan stared at Ariel’s face, an inexplicable ache tightening in his chest.
He knew Ariel belonged to the Robinson family.
But he had never once imagined she was Trevor’s daughter.
The feeling was instinctive—something buried deep in his subconscious.
Impossible to explain.
James stood frozen as well.
Earlier, he had thought there might be some misunderstanding.
But now, staring at a living, breathing child, his mind went blank.
Shock drained all color from his face.
Ryan reacted first.
His gaze turned cold as he stepped forward.
Inside the car, Rose had also spotted Ryan.
Her expression darkened immediately.
She hadn’t expected him to be here.
She froze halfway through opening the door and quietly fastened her seatbelt again.
For the first time, she was grateful that the phone call from the lab had delayed her.
Otherwise, showing up late at night with a child to pick up Trevor would have looked highly suspicious.
And Ryan was far too perceptive.
She remained completely still.

So still that when she saw Ryan walking toward Trevor and Ariel, her heart began pounding.
If he came any closer, he would see her sitting inside the car.
Her mind raced.
Then—
“Ryan, wait.”
Samantha suddenly stumbled after only a few steps, wobbling in her high heels before grabbing Ryan’s arm.
“I twisted my ankle. Take me home first.”
Ryan turned to look at her.
And in that brief moment—
A car engine started below.
Ryan looked back.
Trevor had already gotten into the car with Ariel.
The vehicle pulled away almost immediately, as though eager to leave the area.
There wasn’t even time to react.
Inside the car, Rose had seen Samantha twist her ankle.
While Ryan’s attention was diverted, she seized the opportunity and drove away.
At that moment, she was almost grateful for Samantha’s perfectly timed act.
Her talent for drawing sympathy and attention from men had given Rose the perfect chance to escape.
The car disappeared into the distance.
James let out a sharp breath and laughed in exasperation.
“Daddy? There’s no way someone else’s daughter would call him Daddy.”
Samantha, still clinging to Ryan’s arm and complaining about her ankle, shook her head.
“Not necessarily. Things like that happen abroad all the time. Besides, some couples even call each other ‘Mommy’ and ‘Daddy’ as pet names.”
Ryan glanced sideways.
The car was already long gone.
His brows furrowed slightly.
James still hadn’t recovered from the shock.
“I was careless. Someone actually beat us to it. Trevor has a daughter this old? He must have had her with another woman years ago!”
The engagement between the Robinson and Taylor families was common knowledge among the upper class.
What he couldn’t accept was the possibility that Trevor had never intended to wait for his sister at all.

Ryan stared into the darkness.
“How are you so sure your sister is somewhere in New York?”
At those words, James couldn’t help recalling the Taylor family’s past.
Years ago, his mother had severed ties with the family and left with his younger sister, who was not yet two years old.
Later came news of his mother’s death.
But his sister had disappeared in New York without a trace.
For the last two years, he had searched tirelessly throughout the city.
Even his grandmother—a woman who usually hated social events—had been attending public functions more frequently in recent years.
Why?
“I’m not sure,” James admitted, his frustration flaring. “It’s just a gut feeling.”
He clenched his jaw. “But Trevor hates socializing. I’m going to find out exactly what’s going on. Even if the engagement is called off, it should be the Taylor family that ends it.”
His eyes darkened. “I want to know exactly what kind of woman had the nerve to bear his child and steal the Taylor family’s future son-in-law from their missing daughter.”
