Chapter 110: Chapter 110 Everything She Tried to Escape

Rose had considered countless possibilities.

Perhaps Ryan, burdened by his position and endless responsibilities, had been forced to handle some urgent matter and couldn’t make it to the courthouse.

That was the only reasonable explanation she had been able to come up with.

She never imagined the truth would be so absurd.

A vacation.

A completely spontaneous vacation.

He hadn’t even bothered to tell her beforehand or collect the divorce documents with her in advance.

Was he worried she wouldn’t cooperate and would ruin their wonderful trip?

Rose closed her eyes.

Her chest rose and fell sharply for a long moment before she finally forced herself to calm down.

At this point, dwelling on it was pointless.

Besides, Ryan had never been the type of man to explain himself to her.

To Ryan, she was a woman who could be neglected.

A woman who could be postponed.

A woman who could be pushed aside again and again.

But Samantha?

Every whim of Samantha’s had to be fulfilled.

"When we were filming the documentary, we all added each other on social media," Diana said, gently patting Rose’s back. Her voice dripped with resentment. "I never thought it would end up exposing something like this."

Samantha truly had no idea how to keep a low profile.

Rose had to admit she felt completely overwhelmed.

She had planned to use the divorce certificate to finalize Ariel’s legal status, officially establish herself as Ariel’s legal guardian, and sever all ties with the Knight family once and for all.

No more delays.

No more complications.

But now everything was spiraling out of control.

Not only could the divorce potentially be revoked, but Ariel’s custody situation had become even more uncertain.

"Is the divorce certificate really the only thing holding this up?" Diana asked.

Rose shook her head. "I researched everything beforehand. The documentation has to be complete. Married couples present a marriage certificate. Divorced people present a divorce certificate. If people could simply skip steps whenever they wanted, the entire system would fall apart."

If she had known things would turn out this way, she never would have rushed through the special channel.

The normal process might have been slower, but it wouldn’t have left her trapped like this.

Diana thought for a moment. "Ryan may not necessarily side with Margaret."

She leaned forward. "When he comes back, talk to him. Have him deal with her."

After all, Rose wasn’t the only person eager for the divorce to be finalized.

Ryan wanted out of the marriage too.

"He’ll definitely want that certificate back. There’s no way he’d let Margaret interfere and undo everything. That divorce certificate isn’t just important to you."

Diana snorted. "It’s proof that he’s single. Proof that Samantha isn’t the other woman."

She crossed her arms. "He might be even more anxious than you are."

Then she added with satisfaction, "And when he hands it to you personally, that’ll be his way of officially giving up any claim to Ariel forever."

The analysis made sense.

Very good sense.

The image of Ryan personally handing over the divorce certificate so Samantha could finally have a legitimate status—and, in the process, permanently surrendering any claim to Ariel—was oddly satisfying.

Rose considered it carefully.

Then she nodded.

Some of the anxiety weighing on her chest finally eased.

Since she didn’t know Ryan’s new number, all she could do was suppress her emotions and wait for him to return.

*****

That night, Rose didn’t go home.

She couldn’t bring herself to be alone.

The pressure was simply too overwhelming.

She stayed at Diana’s apartment instead.

The entire night felt like one long nightmare.

She dreamed the divorce certificate had been revoked.

She dreamed Ariel’s existence had been exposed.

She dreamed she was being dragged back into the same suffocating vortex she had spent years trying to escape.

When she woke up, her pajamas were soaked with sweat.

Diana had already left for work.

Before leaving, she’d prepared breakfast and left it on the table.

After eating, Rose drove back to her apartment.

Part of her still wanted to explore every possible option.

Maybe there was some way to handle Ariel’s legal paperwork without using the divorce agreement.

Maybe there was another path.

Move back into Moon lake Villa and have a child with Ryan?

Absolutely not.

Never.

Rose parked her car and headed upstairs.

The moment she reached her door, her expression turned icy.

The apartment door stood wide open.

People were moving in and out.

Alarmed, she rushed inside.

Most of her belongings had already been packed.

She immediately grabbed one of the women wearing a moving company’s uniform.

"What are you doing? This is my home!"

The woman looked startled. "You didn’t know? We’re a professional moving company."

She gestured toward the boxes. "We were hired to pack your belongings and move them to another address. The client said she was your grandmother."

Rose’s face went pale.

Without another word, she rushed into the master bedroom and yanked open the drawers.

The divorce agreement.

The custody waiver.

The prenatal records.

The delivery records.

Everything that had been stored there was gone.

At that moment, her vision nearly blacked out.

Panic and fury surged through her.

She knew Margaret was controlling.

But she had never imagined she would go this far.

Margaret had actually sent people to pack up her home and force her back into Moonlake Villa.

Rose didn’t hesitate.

She turned around and drove straight to the villa.

*****

It had been a long time since she’d last stepped inside Moon lake Villa.

Ryan had changed the security code long ago.

She didn’t even know the new one.

Someone had to let her in.

The moment she entered the living room, she saw rows of professionally packed moving boxes.

Everything was organized.

Labeled.

Neatly arranged.

Rose immediately headed for the filing cabinet.

After digging through several boxes, she finally found the documents she needed.

Only then did her breathing gradually steady.

Thank goodness.

The movers were professionals.

Margaret hadn’t sent someone to search through her personal records.

Her secret remained hidden.

Without hesitation, Rose stuffed the documents into her carry-on bag.

She had thought she could ignore Margaret’s demands.

Instead, Margaret had already "helped" make the decision for her.

"Madam?"

Martha descended the staircase with several staff members.

She didn’t seem surprised to see Rose.

Rose tightened her grip on the bag.

"Has Ryan come back yet?"

Martha continued directing the movers while answering.

"No."

She smiled politely. "Mr. Knight is very busy. With him away, there are fewer matters to worry about at home."

Rose lowered her eyes.

Busy.

Apparently too busy to care whether his house was on fire.

In the end, however, Ryan remained the key to resolving this situation.

Until she became strong enough to stand on equal footing with the Knight family, she was vulnerable.

Powerless.

Easy to manipulate.

Until the divorce certificate was securely in her hands, no matter how angry she felt, she had to remain calm.

Making a scene now would only put her at a disadvantage.

After finishing her instructions to the staff, Martha turned toward Rose.

Seeing the gloomy expression on her face, she sighed sympathetically.

"Madam, may I offer a piece of advice?"

Rose said nothing.

Martha poured her a cup of water. "Do you really think moving out has had any effect on Mr. Knight?"

She shook her head. "It’s been this long, and he hasn’t even asked about it once."

Her tone was gentle. "Your approach isn’t working."

So Martha thought she had moved out to get Ryan’s attention.

Rose nearly laughed.

The assumption felt ridiculous.

It was as though everyone expected her to spend her life making endless compromises.

As though backing down was simply her responsibility.

"Madam," Martha continued, "I’ve lived long enough to see every kind of marriage."

She placed the water in front of Rose. "A marriage needs care and patience."

Then she lowered her voice. "Men are all the same at heart."

Her smile turned knowing. "As women, we just need to hold on to what’s truly important. Some things are better left unseen."

She sighed. "A husband like Mr. Knight..."

Martha shook her head. "...is actually a rare find."
