There weren’t many people on the streets. With most migrant workers returning home for the holiday, the city had an unusually quiet feel.

The lights along the sidewalk were already on, casting vibrant colors over the trees that lined the street. Most shops were closed, but Ning Chu found one of the few open places—a bubble tea shop. She sipped her drink occasionally, typing away on her phone.

“I should’ve just gone to my apartment...” she sighed, thinking how much easier typing on a computer would be, not to mention she could play games.

“Why didn’t he get off work early today? It’s not like there are many customers.”

She glanced up again at the stand-alone restaurant across the street, fidgeting impatiently. Two hours had passed!

After dinner, she had come here to surprise Wen Yang or at least check out his co-workers, hoping none were “sly foxes,” but it had already been two hours.

“Miss, I’m about to close up,” the young cashier, who looked around sixteen or seventeen, softly informed her as she considered ordering another tea.

“Oh, alright...”

At least she hadn’t been waiting in vain, as she managed to finish a chapter of her novel.

Stepping out of the tea shop, she felt the chill of the night breeze sting her dry skin as if it were slicing across her. She shivered, instinctively hunching her shoulders and tucking her chin into her plaid scarf.

It was the coldest time of the year, with temperatures hovering near freezing.

Unable to resist any longer, she gave up on surprising Wen Yang and sent him a message: “What time are you getting off work?”

A moment later, he replied, “I’m waiting for the bus.”

“???”

When did he get off? How had she missed him?

Ning Chu’s gaze immediately darted to the bus stop, where she spotted his tall figure under the shelter.

Quietly, she sneaked up behind Wen Yang, stood on her tiptoes, and covered his eyes with her hands, using a disguised voice, “Guess who?”

A hint of fragrance reached him, and Wen Yang took a quick breath before remarking, “Who’s this playful little kid?”

“Come on, guess!”

Her hands were small and soft, her ten fingers swollen and pink from the cold, faintly scented with milk and the gentle fragrance of youth...

He didn’t need to guess; he already knew.

“Let me think... Is it Xinyi?”

“What the—who’s that?” Ning Chu snapped, dropping the fake voice. “Guess again!”

“Then... Shiqi?”

She promptly kicked him in the calf. “Oh, so there are others? Out with it!”

Turning around with a mischievous smile, Wen Yang looked at her with gentle eyes. “Nope, just you.”

“Hmph!”

With a feigned look of annoyance, Ning Chu turned her head away, puffing her cheeks. “Go find your Xinyi and Shiqi then~”

“Okay, okay, I was just teasing you.”

“Just saying ‘my mistake’ fixes it?”

With a resigned look, Wen Yang gazed at his little succubus. “Alright, so what should I do to make it up to you? Midnight snack?”

“Hmm, I guess that’ll do...”

“It’s New Year’s, so I’m not sure the snack street is even open.”

Without hesitation, Ning Chu wrapped her arm around his and pulled him along. “Come on, let’s go see!”

“The snack street’s that way.”

She rolled her eyes, wondering how she ended up with such a straight-laced guy.

But Wen Yang leaned in, his voice lowering. “There’s a couple’s hotel nearby. I hear the soundproofing is pretty good, so you wouldn’t have to hold back.”

“...!”

Ning Chu froze, her face turning even redder than it already was from the cold. Flustered, she glared up at him. “We’re talking about food! What’s going on in your head?”

“Oh? Isn’t it you who’d be eating me?”

“No way! You pervert!”

She had been considering it a moment ago, but being called out so openly made her cheeks burn in embarrassment and stirred a rebellious refusal.

Wen Yang shrugged and tried to persuade her. “Come on, just once? It’s not that expensive, and it’s on me.”

“No way! Besides, where are you getting the money?”

“Credit,” he replied, grabbing her wrist and leading her toward the hotel. “Come on, no need to act tough.”

“Excuse me!”

She stumbled after him, tugging back. “Can’t you think about something else for once?”

“Plus, hotels aren’t cheap, you know. A night costs more than two days’ work.”

“Ah...” She gave a token struggle, then blinked as he released her wrist.

She’d gotten free?

After a second’s hesitation, she hurried forward, slipping her wrist back into his hand as if nothing had happened.

...

They walked down the street and arrived at a plain-looking building.

The sign said “Couples Hotel” rather than something more risqué, which eased her nerves a bit.

“I heard that places like this often have hidden cameras.” She whispered in Wen Yang’s ear, “Wouldn’t want to end up on some spy cam website.”

“Really?” Wen Yang scratched his head. “I’ll check it out when we get to the room. Don’t worry.”

“Why would I be worried?!”

Then why was he already picking up on the seductive aura emanating from her succubus side?

They wandered around the lobby, taking in the surroundings before heading to the front desk to check in.

It was Ning Chu’s first time in such a place, and a glance at the price list showed the rates were similar to any standard hotel.

A sense of unease nagged at her, worried that there might be something weird in the room.

Just as she was deep in thought, the door behind her opened again.

Turning around, Ning Chu froze, locking eyes with her mother, who had just walked in.

“...”

For a moment, neither mother nor daughter knew what expression to make.

As Ning Chu stood there in utter embarrassment, her mother paused briefly, then looked away, walking straight down the hallway without acknowledging her.

Ah, nothing fazes a mother!

Wen Yang finally finished checking in, glancing after her mother and muttering, “That woman looked a lot like your mom.”

“You must be seeing things.” Ning Chu forced a smile.

Judging by her choice, this hotel did indeed have good soundproofing. Otherwise, her mother wouldn’t have come here.

Maybe this place was her mother’s usual spot...

Wen Yang scratched his head in confusion, glancing at the room key. “Room 107, this way.”

“This way?!”

“Uh, yeah? Why?”

Oh no! Right next to her mother’s room?

“Nothing, nothing...”

Wen Yang eyed her suspiciously, but Ning Chu had already walked ahead, her expression out of sight.

“107...”

Fortunately, their room was two doors down from her mother’s. Still a bit too close for comfort.

With a resigned sigh, Ning Chu shook her head at the sheer coincidence.

Opening the door, she collected herself and took a look inside.

The room wasn’t much different from a typical hotel, except the lighting was an intimate pinkish-purple, the bed was round, and a huge mirror adorned the ceiling.

And then...

Her gaze landed on a peculiar-looking chair.

She didn’t know its proper name, but it was one she had seen in “those” kinds of books—a chair designed for binding legs, positioning the body into compromising postures.

Her mother knew how to pick a place!
