Looking back, Ning Chu remembered that she had been quite popular during her time in kindergarten and elementary school.

The toys her classmates gave her filled a small box, which still sat in a corner of the storage room. However, every time she brought toys home, her mother would scold her.

As for Hei Dou, she wasn’t really all that interested in the snacks her classmates gave her. She just enjoyed the attention. Most of the snacks she received were distributed among her classmates... She preferred meat. Bread, candies, and puffed snacks didn’t interest her at all.

Standing outside the tutoring class and peering through the window at Hei Dou’s behavior, Ning Chu felt like something had gone seriously wrong with their mother’s education.

This can’t go on!

Moreover, Hei Dou accepting food from strangers so recklessly made it far too easy for her to get abducted!

As Ning Chu pondered how to solve the immediate problem, another thought suddenly struck her.

When Hei Dou reaches fifteen or sixteen, and the boys around her start to develop crushes, won’t there be a line of boys pursuing her, given how popular she is?

The mere thought of Hei Dou someday being claimed by some random guy made Ning Chu's possessiveness flare up uncontrollably, to the point where she wanted to punch every male who got near her.

“Is this the same feeling my brother has when he looks at me and Wen Yang?”

“Or maybe it’s less intense? After all, I haven’t been a girl for very long.”

Ning Chu muttered to herself, left the tutoring center, and flagged down a passing taxi to head towards the urban village where Wen Yang lived.

About half an hour later, she arrived at the door of Wen Yang's rented apartment.

Hoping to surprise Wen Yang, she made no noise, quietly took out the spare key to the apartment, and carefully opened the door.

She peeked inside, but the room was empty.

“Tsk!”

He had gone out early in the morning without saying a word!

He hadn’t even said good morning! She had assumed Wen Yang was still asleep.

Feeling right at home, Ning Chu kicked off her shoes and socks on the doormat, closed the door behind her, and comfortably flopped down on the bed. She then sent Wen Yang a message asking where he was.

“It’s only just after nine, where did you go?”

It didn’t take long for Wen Yang to reply.

“Out for breakfast and looking for a job. I’ll be back soon.”

Ning Chu sent him a playful “bite you” emoji and then took out the bag of clothes she had brought with her, neatly tucking them into the bedside cabinet.

Two light sets of loungewear and two sets of underwear—just in case she ever stayed over and didn’t have sleepwear.

Plus, showering and changing into pajamas while with Wen Yang would prevent her clothes from getting dirty and leaving traces that her mother might discover.

After waiting in the apartment for about twenty minutes, the door opened.

Ning Chu looked up to see Wen Yang’s face lit up with joy. The moment he saw her, he couldn’t wait to share the news: “I’ve already found a job.”

“That fast?”

“Yeah,” Wen Yang smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Must be because I’m good-looking and handsome.”

Ning Chu rolled her eyes, grudgingly admitting that he was indeed attractive, but still mocking him by saying, “Tch, give me a break.”

“What kind of job is it? How much are they paying?”

“I got a waiter job at a high-end hotel. I can start tomorrow, and the pay is 4,500 yuan. But there’s no break for the New Year.”

Even though they were in a provincial capital, waiter jobs typically paid around 3,000 yuan, so Wen Yang’s salary was quite good.

At least it was higher than that of many fresh graduates... Before Ning Chu’s time travel, most of the jobs she interviewed for during internships paid around 3,500 yuan.

“What about the hours?”

“It’s a shift-based schedule. The late shift is from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.”

“That’s not too bad.”

Wen Yang had found a job, so this winter break was starting to fall into place.

However, Ning Chu was a bit worried that working in the service industry, where you meet many people, might trigger some strange plot events.

But those events were unavoidable, and even if they didn’t happen right away, they would eventually. It was only a matter of time.

Still concerned, she warned him, “Make sure you don’t start flirting with girls at work!”

“Do you think I’m that kind of person?”

“Well, just be careful. If a girl shows interest in you, cut it off quickly!”

Wen Yang was used to Ning Chu's cautious nature by now, and he couldn’t help but chuckle as he teased, “You really don’t trust me, do you?”

“It’s not that...”

She was more worried that Wen Yang wouldn’t be able to handle certain plot triggers.

What worried her most was making a fool of herself in front of her family if the plot got disrupted.

After thinking it over for a moment, Ning Chu suggested, “How about I come over to your apartment to write while you’re at work?”

Hiding out in Wen Yang's apartment meant that if she got punished by the plot, she could take care of it herself. Plus, Wen Yang had secretly stashed some toys here. The only problem was the apartment’s poor soundproofing, so she couldn’t make too much noise.

“Besides, Hei Dou is always causing trouble, and my mom keeps asking me to do things around the house. I can’t concentrate on writing at home, and that’s why I haven’t updated as much recently.”

Wen Yang, who had been following Ning Chu’s novel updates, had noticed the slowdown.

Each time he read about the protagonist sinking deeper into the “feminine fall,” the way the character’s reluctance and acceptance were described made him especially excited.

Since the novel was practically Ning Chu’s autobiography, the psychological descriptions of the “feminine fall” mirrored her own thoughts and experiences.

This made Wen Yang even more eager to come up with new ways to tease Ning Chu.

“You’re still reading my book, aren’t you?”

Seeing the fire in Wen Yang’s eyes, Ning Chu became immediately suspicious.

“I’m not, I swear.”

“Hand over your phone. I’m going to check.”

In a playful scramble, Ning Chu quickly reached into Wen Yang’s pocket, but as she grabbed something, her hand froze, and her face turned bright red.

Oh no! She grabbed the wrong thing!

Why is this pocket so big?!

My God, it’s huge!

Wen Yang, looking amused, pulled his phone out of his other pocket. “I feel like you did that on purpose.”

“I didn’t!”

“It’s not like you’ve never touched it before. Yesterday, you were really enjoying—”

“Shut up!”

Ning Chu snatched Wen Yang’s phone and quickly fled to the other side of the bed.

This guy was definitely getting more and more into teasing her!

He wasn’t like this before!

“Let’s go out shopping later. You can handle this yourself,” she muttered, still blushing, as she began checking through Wen Yang’s phone.

Wen Yang helplessly switched out his jacket for a trench coat to hide any inappropriate reactions, and opened the window to disperse the seductive aura that the succubus was emitting.

A few moments later, Ning Chu set the phone down. “You really haven’t been reading my novel.”

“You told me not to, so I didn’t. I always keep my word.”

Ning Chu still had her doubts, but since she couldn’t find any evidence, she let it go.

She got up from the bed, put on her shoes and socks, and got ready to head out. “Let’s go. Let’s take a walk while you still have time before work starts.”

“Alright.”

“I’ll let my mom know I’ll be back tonight.”
