Chapter 56: The Overprotective Girlfriend!

As long as Ning Chu was by Wen Yang’s side, a sense of calm settled over her, as if she could finally let go of her fears.

After a night of restless sleep and constant anxiety, the moment she saw Wen Yang, all the tension she’d been carrying disappeared.

"Didn't sleep well last night?"

"Mm-hmm."

Sitting in a corner of the cafeteria, Ning Chu propped her chin up with one hand while using the other to stir the spicy soup in her bowl. Her head drooped, her eyes half-closed, and she couldn’t stop yawning.

Wen Yang sat beside her, carefully observing her expression.

From the moment they met this morning, anyone could see how eager she had been. He wondered if something had happened in the girls’ dorm.

But that didn’t seem likely. They had saved Yan Xinya’s life before, so she wouldn’t treat Ning Chu badly, right?

"How was your night in the girls' dorm? Are you getting used to it?"

"Definitely not..."

Ning Chu yawned again, rubbing her tired eyes. "It’s quieter than our dorm, but I have trouble sleeping in strange places."

Of course, she wasn’t about to tell him about the steamy late-night conversations that left her blushing like crazy.

She paused, hesitating before adding, "Lin Li is a real piece of work! She’s been targeting me since last night!"

It wasn’t exactly slander. Just thinking about that fox-girl’s smug face when she called Ning Chu “small and cute” made her angry.

“Lin Li...” Wen Yang’s expression darkened. “Got it.”

Seeing his reaction, Ning Chu quickly explained, "It’s nothing serious, just some teasing. No need to worry."

Still, it wasn’t a bad idea to paint Lin Li in a slightly worse light, especially since that vixen had been eyeing Wen Yang for a while now.

Lin Li’s story arc was technically over, which meant anything could happen from now on.

And this gave Ning Chu the perfect excuse...

Sighing, she gathered her thoughts and muttered, "I just don’t think I can handle staying in the girls’ dorm for four days... I’m gonna lose my mind."

She glanced up at Wen Yang with a hint of hope but quickly sighed in defeat.

No... I have to resist. It’s just four days.

She couldn’t keep relying on Wen Yang all the time...

If this continued, she’d end up becoming a helpless little wife who couldn’t live without him!

Finishing her soup in one gulp, Ning Chu ended up coughing, wiping her mouth with a napkin before standing up.

“Let’s go, we’ve got class...”

She turned toward the cafeteria entrance but froze, her eyes locking onto the figure of Qiao Qiao, the cat-girl, who had just walked in.

Oh no!

Of all the times for a rival to show up! Whether she let Qiao Qiao get close to Wen Yang or tried to interfere, it would only lead to trouble.

She’d already been punished twice for disrupting the story. If it happened a third time, she wasn’t sure she’d be able to keep her composure.

Paralyzed with indecision, Ning Chu watched in horror as Qiao Qiao, smiling sweetly, headed straight for them.

“Wen Yang~”

Wen Yang was in the middle of cleaning up their dishes when he heard the syrupy voice and glanced up.

He couldn’t help but think how flat Qiao Qiao was. For someone in her twenties, her figure was seriously lacking. Clearly, there was no room for improvement.

Not like Ning Chu, who, although also flat, was a succubus in her growth phase, with the potential to blossom.

He ignored Qiao Qiao completely and carried the dishes to the drop-off station without a word.

Ning Chu, who had been watching nervously from the side, finally let out a breath of relief.

Yes, that’s it! Keep Qiao Qiao hanging just enough!

It wasn’t enough to make Qiao Qiao give up entirely and disrupt the storyline, but it also didn’t give her any real chance to seduce Wen Yang.

Ning Chu hurried to catch up with Wen Yang, who glanced at her with an amused smile. “Your face just now—you looked so tense.”

“I hate her. Don’t talk to her anymore.”

“Alright, I won’t.”

...

By the time they reached the classroom, only half the seats were filled. Exhausted from her restless night, Ning Chu slumped over her desk, her head spinning with fatigue.

Oddly enough, the classroom felt more peaceful than the girls’ dorm. At least here, she didn’t have to worry about any creeps sneaking in.

She hadn’t been resting long when her arm, squashed under her head, started to go numb.

Ning Chu opened her eyes halfway and saw Wen Yang’s arm resting nearby. Without thinking too much, she turned her head and used his arm as a pillow.

Wen Yang blinked in surprise, looking down at her peaceful expression.

“You don’t mind, do you?”

“Not at all.”

“Then move your arm a little closer.”

It seemed like Ning Chu was no longer as uncomfortable with close contact as she used to be.

Wen Yang suddenly realized how much things had changed. In the past, Ning Chu had always kept her distance, even when they had no choice but to be close. Whether it was whispering secrets or accidentally leaning against him on the bus, it was always unintentional.

But now, whether it was holding hands or even kissing, those moments had come about by force, not by Ning Chu’s choice.

Feeling the soft warmth of her face against his arm and the gentle breath brushing his skin, Wen Yang caught a faint whiff of her sweet, girlish scent. It was enough to make him feel lightheaded.

It was just her head resting on his arm. Nothing to overthink... but still, his body reacted all the same.

Embarrassed, Wen Yang shifted in his seat, discreetly adjusting himself under the desk, hoping no one would notice.

“Morning~”

Yan Xinya bounced into the classroom with her usual energy, hurrying over and glancing down at Ning Chu, who was fast asleep. Lowering her voice, she whispered, “She’s asleep?”

“Yeah.”

“Isn’t it great? Sleeping in class with your boyfriend’s arm as a pillow~”

Wen Yang, still a flustered newbie when it came to teasing, quickly looked away from the wolf-girl’s mischievous gaze. “Don’t say nonsense.”

He was worried that Ning Chu might be awake and listening, so he defensively added, “It’s just a friend borrowing another friend’s arm. Nothing more.”

“Sure, sure~”

Yan Xinya sat down with Lily, lowering her head to examine Ning Chu’s face.

“This doesn’t make sense! She doesn’t even use skincare, and she never wears makeup. How is her skin this good?” She turned to Lily. “You too! How is it fair?”

“...”

Lily said nothing, calmly flipping through her book like a studious scholar.

“By the way, Ning Chu’s staying in your dorm from Wednesday to Sunday,” Wen Yang reminded Yan Xinya. “Keep an eye on her for me, will you?”

“I know!” Yan Xinya nodded rapidly.

“Can’t you just cancel your plans and stay?” she muttered.

Just then, Ning Chu’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. Noticing, Yan Xinya quickly cut Wen Yang off and added, “Are you sure you’re not afraid that by the time you come back, Ning Chu might have found another boyfriend?”

“Th-that’s not likely, right?”

“Why not? Are you saying my Ning Chu isn’t pretty enough?” Yan Xinya teased. “You might be good-looking and all, but there are plenty of other guys out there with way more money than you.”

“There are tons of rich, handsome guys who—ow!”

Yan Xinya yelped, looking down to see that Ning Chu had stepped on her toes.

What kind of overprotective girlfriend is this?!

Despite the pain, Yan Xinya couldn’t help but grin, delighted by the romantic tension. She quickly added, “I mean, yeah, sure, you’re great! No one compares to you.”

Jeez, it took long enough to build up Wen Yang’s confidence! Why was she tearing him down now?

Ning Chu, still irritated, pressed down harder on Yan Xinya’s foot.

“Okay, okay, I was wrong!”
