Chapter 47: The Role of Silly Roommates

While other female characters made bold advances on Wen Yang, Chen Xue quietly expressed her feelings by occasionally bringing him homemade plum soup, never daring to confess her love outright. She was the type of girl who always watched her crush from the corner of her eye, never stepping forward. This innocent, unspoken affection stood out in the world of smutty webnovels, like a pure lotus rising from the mud. It was this purity that had left Ning Chu with a good impression of Chen Xue.

But!

The moment the image of Chen Xue kissing Wen Yang flashed through Ning Chu’s mind, all that goodwill evaporated.

She’s just another vixen!

Her heartbeat raced, blood pressure rising, and she clenched her fists, gritting her teeth as she cursed under her breath:

“Vixen!”

In the next moment, Ning Chu realized how ridiculous her words sounded. She froze, and a wave of embarrassment flushed her cheeks.

What the hell am I saying?!

She couldn’t even lift her head to meet Yan Xinya’s eyes, who was grinning sweetly as if she had just witnessed the most delicious gossip. Blushing furiously, Ning Chu stammered, unable to explain her outburst.

I can’t seriously be falling for Wen Yang, can I?

No! This is just possessiveness! Wen Yang is the male protagonist I created! As the author, it’s only natural for me to feel protective of him, right?

It’s like how parents are protective of their children...

That reaction just now was like a father watching his daughter get married and glaring at the son-in-law!

“Stop lying to yourself~”

Yan Xinya saw right through her, poking at Ning Chu’s inner turmoil with a teasing smile.

Ning Chu’s breath hitched, and she shook her head frantically, as if trying to shake off the thought. She stammered in denial, “N-no way! That’s impossible!”

How could she have developed feelings for a man so soon after turning into a girl?

Lily, meanwhile, nodded in agreement, her quiet voice adding fuel to the fire. “Looks like love to me.”

“Don’t worry,” the succubus continued, her expression as flat as ever but her gaze drifting suggestively. “We’re succubi. We can handle it... right?”

It was the longest sentence Ning Chu had ever heard Lily say in real life, and her words were just as blunt as her usual online comments.

But Ning Chu didn’t have time to dwell on that. Her heart ached, as if the part of her that was still a man was slowly crumbling away.

Sitting in silence, Ning Chu was overcome with the urge to run away from the situation, to stick her head in the sand like an ostrich.

“I-I have something to do.”

She abruptly stood up and, in a panic, rushed out the door.

“I’m heading back!”

Yan Xinya tilted her head, watching Ning Chu flee in a flustered hurry, and asked, “Why is she so resistant? Wen Yang’s pretty handsome, isn’t he?”

“He’s too big,” Lily replied confidently with a nod.

“Is that all you ever think about?”

After last night’s rain, the temperature had dropped, and the sun no longer blazed as intensely as it had the previous month.

Distracted and lost in thought, Ning Chu wandered out of the girls’ dorm, her head down as she stared at her feet, her mind in turmoil.

“Hey! Watch where you’re going!”

She accidentally bumped into a student leaving the dorm, but all she did was hunch her shoulders, pressing her lips together as she descended the stairs without noticing.

This doesn’t make sense...

Could I really be falling for a man?

Even though her body had long since become that of a woman, she had never truly seen herself as one. The occasional reaction she had toward Wen Yang was just hormones—natural male-female attraction.

She admitted it! She didn’t want to be apart from Wen Yang and, yes, he made her feel safe. But that was normal in a smutty webnovel world, right? Seeking protection from the protagonist’s plot armor was perfectly reasonable!

And that so-called jealousy? It was just a parent’s concern for their son, nothing more! What’s wrong with a father not wanting his son to go astray?

Aimlessly walking through the dormitory area, Ning Chu kept arguing with herself, mentally pushing back against Yan Xinya’s interrogation.

Do I really like Wen Yang?

Even though she was trying to refute it, Yan Xinya and Lily’s words lingered in her mind.

Maybe...

With a sigh of defeat, Ning Chu shook her head. “Why am I even thinking about this? Who cares if I like him or not?”

The real priority was making sure Wen Yang didn’t turn into a typical harem protagonist and host wild parties surrounded by women.

And with her family life currently a mess, she didn’t have the luxury to worry about personal feelings.

“Still, my heart is such a mess...”

Ning Chu sighed again.

Once a man as straight as steel, if she truly started liking another man... did that mean her mindset, her orientation, and even her self-perception had been completely assimilated by this female body?

Did it mean the old “him” had already been completely replaced?

Since coming to this world, the only things she had left from her “homeland” were this smutty webnovel and the remnants of her past male identity and memories from middle school.

“I can barely even remember what things were like before.”

Ning Chu muttered to herself, feeling lost.

Drifting like a rootless plant in this world with no sense of belonging...

She wandered into the campus convenience store, grabbed a bottle of cola, and silently scanned the QR code to pay.

When she was out alone, she rarely felt like speaking.

Even though she wore Wen Yang’s jacket, which carried his protagonist aura, she still felt like the people around her harbored ill intentions. Maybe that friendly-looking passerby was secretly a pervert.

Back at the dorm, Ning Chu opened the door.

“Back so soon?” Zhang Shaoqing turned around to look at her. “I asked for green tea, why’d you buy me cola?”

“...”

Ning Chu placed the cola on her desk, kicked off her shoes, and climbed into bed.

“Not talking again? Only Wen Yang can cheer you up, huh?” Zhang Shaoqing, as obnoxious as ever, shook his leg, the soles of his shoes tapping noisily against the wooden desk. “Hey, I heard you’ve been getting better at games. Wanna duo queue?”

“I just hit Platinum at lunch! I’ll carry you!”

“How about a drink? Loosen up a bit?”

“Man! Even when Ling Ling got taken to a love hotel, I wasn’t this mopey!”

Ning Chu stuck her head out from under the blanket. “Didn’t you cry and scream like you were about to kill yourself back then?”

“Feeling better?”

A moment later, she finally replied, “Yeah... a little.”

The dorm fell silent. Zhang Shaoqing went back to scrolling through his phone, while Ning Chu curled up under the covers, hiding her face.

Her phone vibrated. It was a message from Wen Yang.

“What’s wrong?”

With a sigh, Ning Chu muttered, “Zhang Shaoqing, why did you tell Wen Yang I’m in a bad mood?”

“I didn’t know what to do with you, so I figured I’d call for backup.”

“I’m fine, seriously.” She tossed the blanket aside and sat up. “Come on, log in. Let’s duo queue.”

“Huh? Is this revenge or something?”

Ning Chu hopped off the bed, and seeing Zhang Shaoqing’s startled expression, her mood brightened a little. “Weren’t you the one who said you’d carry me?”

“If you’re too much of a noob, I’ll yell at you.”

“Didn’t you just brag about hitting Platinum and carrying me? Ten deaths and you’ll still win, right?”

“That last part, I didn’t say!”

Sure enough, nothing soothes the soul like having a silly roommate.
