Chapter 33: Possessiveness

In the afternoon, Yan Xinya's 100-meter sprint final was about to begin.

Having just left the cafeteria, Ning Chu pulled Wen Yang over to the track, waving at Yan Xinya, who was waiting at the starting line in the distance.

For the race, the wolf-girl had dressed in sporty shorts, showing off her strong, muscular thighs. Her big, grey tail swayed behind her, while the short-sleeved top she wore revealed her toned abs and accentuated her full chest.

Ning Chu sneaked a glance at Wen Yang’s expression, but to her surprise, he only glanced at Yan Xinya for a second before looking back at his phone, completely unbothered by her appearance.

Hmm, becoming more disciplined, I see~

Previously, Wen Yang would at least shy away from the attention of girls, but now, he didn’t even seem interested in looking.

The downside was that the situation had come at her expense...

Ning Chu pondered whether she should find Wen Yang a nice, quiet girlfriend who wouldn’t stir up trouble. But then again, she worried that if he ever got a taste of romance, he might really turn into the womanizing scumbag from her novel.

“Ning Chu.”

A cool voice came from behind. Lily approached gracefully, dressed in her usual conservative long dress, with a wide-brimmed hat shading her from the sun. Her elegant steps brought her closer to the two of them.

If one didn’t know better, anyone would mistake her for a high-cold goddess.

“You’re here to watch Xinya’s final too?”

Lily nodded lightly, standing next to Ning Chu. She glanced at Wen Yang briefly before lowering her head and pulling out her phone to send Ning Chu a message.

"Are you and Wen Yang together now?"

"No."

Lily gave her a doubtful look, glancing between the two, who were standing side by side like they were glued together.

"It’s Xinya’s fault! I didn’t have a say in this!"

Ning Chu’s ability to shift blame was top-notch, but communicating via phone when they were right next to each other felt odd.

“If you don’t like him, then move out. Staying in the boys’ dorm is inconvenient and dangerous.”

“I’ll wait and see.”

If it weren’t for the fact that moving away from Wen Yang might lead to her encountering perverts, Ning Chu would have moved out ages ago.

Living in a girls' dorm and bonding with the girls sounded great! She was fully aware that staying in the boys' dorm came with risks.

“It’s about to start.”

Ning Chu looked toward the starting line, where the runners were crouched, ready to sprint.

“Mm,” Lily responded, her usual reserved self.

In the finals, besides Yan Xinya, there was also a cat-girl, a dog-girl, and even a rabbit-girl. For a moment, Ning Chu felt like she was watching an animal sports event...

It was clear that non-human girls had certain physical advantages. Ning Chu imagined that if this world had an Olympics, the women’s events would likely be filled with all kinds of non-human competitors.

As for why there were no non-human men in this world... Well, this world was based on a smut novel, and when she was writing it, she hadn’t exactly been concerned about logical consistency.

As Ning Chu watched Yan Xinya take the lead, sprinting gracefully, she was also thinking about what kind of girlfriend she should find for Wen Yang.

As long as she could ensure that Wen Yang wouldn’t transform into a harem-seeking protagonist, and that he could be responsible and devoted to one woman, she’d need to set him up with a girlfriend.

Once Wen Yang had a girlfriend, his pure-hearted, loyal nature would lead him to avoid any deeper interactions with other female characters.

If things went smoothly, Wen Yang would destroy most of the story’s smutty plotlines on his own, shifting his feelings away from her and sparing her from being constantly entangled with him.

Ning Chu immediately dismissed any female characters from the novel.

Even Lily, who had no interest in men, could end up inadvertently getting involved with Wen Yang due to her sensitive nature. If that happened, the pure-hearted Wen Yang would likely turn into a blackened scumbag, and all her plans would fall apart.

As for the other female characters... most of them had personal lives that were chaotic enough to make even a dog cover its eyes.

That left her with one option: random, background girls.

Ning Chu suddenly felt like a father worrying over his son’s marriage prospects~

Yan Xinya wasn’t a bad choice, though. She was pretty, on par with the other female characters, and while she liked to stir up trouble, she was a good person at heart. Plus, she was physically strong—strong enough to handle Wen Yang without breaking...

“Wen Yang, what do you think of Xinya?”

Of course, Wen Yang’s opinion mattered the most.

Wen Yang looked down at Ning Chu in surprise, then glanced at Yan Xinya, who was about to cross the finish line to win the championship. “She runs fast.”

“...”

Ning Chu was speechless for a moment before continuing with a sigh, “I meant, do you like her?”

“I like her.”

For some reason, hearing that answer made Ning Chu’s heart tighten. She almost instinctively retorted, “What’s so great about her? She’s always meddling!”

Both Lily and Wen Yang looked at her in surprise.

Ning Chu’s face heated up, and she lowered her head, mumbling awkwardly, “If it weren’t for her stirring things up...”

Wen Yang’s lips curled into a small smile, and he clarified, “I mean, she’s a good person. She’d make a good friend, nothing more.”

“I knew that! What’s there to explain?”

“Are you trying to set me up with a girlfriend?”

Caught red-handed, Ning Chu nervously replied with a soft, “Yeah.”

“There’s no need.”

He planned to make Ning Chu fall for him instead.

“Oh... okay,” Ning Chu muttered under her breath.

What’s going on?! This perfect plan failed before it even began!

It wasn’t Wen Yang’s comment that there was "no need" that bothered her. It was the strange pang of jealousy she felt when she heard him say he liked Yan Xinya.

It felt like being asked to share a beloved toy as a child—she knew it was the right thing to do, but she didn’t want to lend her toy to anyone else, let alone give it away.

She had realized long ago that, at some point, she had developed a strange sense of possessiveness over Wen Yang.

It was confusing...

“Champion!”

While she was lost in thought, Yan Xinya came rushing over, cheering loudly. Ning Chu quickly dodged out of the way, and the wolf-girl stumbled past her, stopping only after running another few meters.

Even after just finishing a 100-meter race, she still had so much energy...

“I’m the champion! Why didn’t you guys wait for me at the finish line?”

Lily quietly twirled a lock of hair behind her ear, expressionless.

Wen Yang smiled and nodded. “Congratulations.”

“Dinner’s on me tonight!” Yan Xinya, in high spirits, slung her arm around Lily’s neck and grandly announced, “Everything’s on me!”

“I want to eat at that barbecue place behind the school.”

Yan Xinya’s face immediately fell. “No way, I’ll take you to the cafeteria at best. Do you know how little the championship prize money is? And you’re already trying to milk me for more!”

Ning Chu sneaked another glance at Wen Yang’s expression. Despite Yan Xinya’s skimpy outfit and the amount of skin she was showing, Wen Yang kept his eyes strictly on her face.

It was clear that Wen Yang had absolutely no interest in Yan Xinya.

A mix of relief and disappointment washed over her...

Then she noticed Wen Yang’s gaze briefly flick to Yan Xinya’s ample chest before turning back to her own... less impressive figure.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ning Chu asked sweetly, smiling up at him.

Wen Yang frantically shook his head. “N-nothing!”
