Chapter 17: A Gift

On Monday afternoon during P.E. class, Ning Chu surprisingly didn’t stick around Wen Yang.

During free time, Ning Chu, Lily, and Yan Xinya sat side by side on a bench by the edge of the soccer field, each holding a cup of milk tea.

"Ning Chu~ I can smell it again~" The wolf-girl, Yan Xinya, rested her chin on Ning Chu's shoulder, teasingly saying, "Next time, you’d better take a good bath, or what if someone else picks up on your scent?"

"......"

"How did you handle it at noon?"

"I just held it in..."

Lily, who was sitting nearby, interjected, "Wasn’t that dangerous?"

"Yeah, you should really move out as soon as possible. Otherwise, staying in a male dormitory could easily turn into total chaos."

"......" Ning Chu lowered her head, unable to respond.

You're still making sarcastic comments! Aren't you the one who started all this trouble?

Ning Chu had been so careful to prevent Wen Yang and Lily from interacting, only for Yan Xinya to bring Lily along to class, insisting they hang out with Wen Yang!

Now, to derail the plot, she had ended up making Wen Yang suspicious that she was a succubus.

There was even a possibility that Lily’s storyline could somehow shift onto her.

Maybe she was just overthinking it?

Ning Chu leaned back on the bench, staring at the clear blue sky, her face showing a deep sense of helplessness.

"You succubi really have it rough~" Yan Xinya muttered as she lowered her head, using a special comb to brush her tail. "But at least you don’t shed fur. That’s nice~"

After just a few strokes, the comb was already covered in a thick layer of fur.

Even among friends, Lily maintained her cold and dignified demeanor. She sat upright, reading a book, and responded with a soft, "Mm."

"Ning Chu, can I see the markings on your stomach? Lily won’t let me see hers."

"Don't talk to me..."

"Wen Yang’s gone."

Ning Chu jolted upright, quickly standing on her tiptoes to scan the field. Her eyes swept across the area, but she couldn’t find any trace of Wen Yang.

Just a few minutes ago, Wen Yang had been sitting on the grass playing mobile games with Wang Jie and Zhang Shaoqing!

Now, he was nowhere to be seen!

Panic started to set in as her eyes repeatedly scanned the field, hoping she had just missed him.

But with Wen Yang’s nearly 1.9-meter height and his standout looks, there was no way she could have overlooked him!

"Maybe he just went to the bathroom?" Yan Xinya tugged on her hand. "Don’t worry, it’s not like he’s gone off to flirt with some girl."

It wasn’t Wen Yang flirting with a girl that worried her—it was herself that she was concerned about.

As long as Wen Yang wasn’t within her sight, her heart raced, and she couldn’t stop the rising panic.

"I’ll go look for him."

"Don't be so hasty."

Lily lifted her eyes from her book and looked at Ning Chu. "Call him."

Ning Chu fumbled for her phone, but her eyes were already fixed on the entrance to the field, and she let out a sigh of relief.

It was Wen Yang, and he was carrying a package—he must have gone to pick up a delivery.

This guy is always so broke, yet the moment he earns a little money from a part-time job, he can’t resist spending it... I really need to have a talk with him about his spending habits! Wasting money like that...

She plopped back down on the bench and muttered, "Gave me such a scare."

"And you still say there’s nothing between you and Wen Yang~" Yan Xinya teased, grinning as she leaned closer. "Look at how worried you were just now."

"There’s nothing going on."

"You’re so stubborn~" The wolf-girl turned to Lily, joking, "On the weekend, she couldn't even relax in the dorm unless she was wearing Wen Yang’s clothes. And she says she doesn’t like him."

Ning Chu's face flushed as she refuted, "Don’t talk nonsense! I was just cold!"

By this time, Wen Yang had walked up with the package in hand and looked at the three girls who were bantering. "What are you talking about? You all seem to be having a good time."

"We were just saying that Ning Chu—"

Ning Chu quickly grabbed Yan Xinya’s wolf ears, causing the wolf-girl to go limp. "Ouch! Let go! That hurts!"

"Hmph!" Ning Chu finally released her, then looked up and asked, "What do you want?"

"I bought you something."

"???"

Wen Yang, standing about a meter away, tossed the package onto Ning Chu's lap, then turned his head, his face slightly flushed. "See if you like it."

"A token of affection!"

Ning Chu quickly pinned Yan Xinya down, her hands moving to cover the wolf-girl’s mouth. "Shut up!"

Lily, on the other hand, awkwardly scooted to the side, but in doing so, she slipped off the bench with a thud.

"Lily! Are you okay?" Yan Xinya quickly got up to help Lily, then turned back to Ning Chu. "Come on, stop messing around and open it already."

Ning Chu shot her a glare before looking down at the package on her lap. Then, hesitantly, she glanced up at Wen Yang.

Could it really be a token of affection? Why else would Wen Yang randomly give her something?

Maybe she shouldn’t open it. Maybe she should just tell Wen Yang to return it?

Wen Yang, noticing her hesitant gaze, started to feel uneasy. Crossing his arms over his chest, he urged, "Go on, open it. If you don’t like it, I’ll return it."

"What kind of dense straight guy are you!"

He froze, looking at the wolf-girl who had a look of utter disappointment on her face, and at the succubus who was subtly nodding along. He quickly corrected himself, "Well, it’s yours now. Whether you like it or not, just keep it."

"......"

Ning Chu sighed heavily and started to tear open the packaging.

It appeared to be a set of clothes.

She took out the clothes and laid them on the bench. It was a short blue and white blouse paired with a dark blue skirt, along with black stockings and a leg ring as accessories. Ning Chu stared at them, lost in thought.

Wen Yang, are you out of your mind?

She gave Wen Yang a long, hard look.

Seeing her dissatisfaction, Wen Yang hurriedly explained, "I noticed you don’t have any women’s clothes, so I thought I’d buy you a set... Even if you can’t wear it in the dorm, you’ll need something for when you go out on weekends..."

Noticing her increasingly displeased expression, Wen Yang’s voice grew quieter, "I thought it looked nice—others looked good in it."

Over the weekend, while working as a tutor, he had seen a high school girl in a sailor outfit that hit his sweet spot. He had been imagining what Ning Chu would look like in that outfit ever since.

It just so happened that Ning Chu’s wardrobe didn’t seem to have any women’s clothes.

"I don’t have that kind of hobby," Ning Chu muttered, rubbing her temples.

"You don’t like wearing skirts?"

Wen Yang seemed surprised.

I don’t wear women’s clothes at all! And this is a short sailor skirt!

"Don’t buy me anything else in the future. This set looks expensive—use the money you earn from part-time jobs on food instead." Ning Chu began folding the clothes and handed them back to Wen Yang. "Return it."

She had to firmly reject this! She couldn’t let Wen Yang’s feelings get any further.

Wen Yang was taken aback, looking a bit disappointed. Just as he was about to take the clothes, he noticed Yan Xinya frantically winking at him.

"......"

So he turned around and walked away.

"Wait! You should return it!" Ning Chu called after him, standing up as if to chase him. "Come back!"

"He was just being nice~ Even if you don’t like it, you should keep it~" Yan Xinya suddenly hugged Ning Chu from behind the bench, holding her in place with a smile full of affection. "Just accept it!"

"I live in a male dorm!"

"I can keep it for you! When you need it, just let me know, and I’ll bring it to you right away!"
