Chapter 48: "Meet our boyfriend"
The Jang family had a history of family feuds from ancestors to present day descendants.
The normal public thought it was only natural that a family with such a fine lineage and astronomical wealth, would have some differences related to the control and ownership of that prestige.
But never in their wildest imaginations would they have thought that the members of the Jang family had never once faught over the inheritance.
Everytime there was a clash within the family, it usually happened for two reasons.
One, someone in the family got hurt and was now being locked up at home against their will. Half the family agreed on releasing them and half is dead set on making them live the rest of their lives in captivity.
Second, a lover appeared.
You see, contrary to popular belief, the Jang family was actually very close knitted and the members had very inclusive roles in each other’s lives.
So when Song-rik informed the family that he had a ’boyfriend’, the entire family needed to know the man.
Song-rik was no child, so he refused to tell anything more than his name to everyone, but that was all they actually ever needed.
Background checks were done within a day, tails were placed to tabs on him and even social experiments with actors at his job were conducted to analyze his behavior.
Remember that especially difficult customer who made Doha make the same drink for the sixth time claiming they said ’pink’ cream. (Refer to Chapter 14)
Yes, it was all the Jang family.
And after weeks of vetting and analyzing Yeon Doha, they had concluded that he was...
... actually quite good!
Which was a disappointment because they absolutely hated the idea of giving away their precious baby Song-rik to some brat who was still wet behind the ears.
"Let’s invite him and scare him off," The grandfather had concluded.
Again, half the family agreed and half still wanted to test the waters.
But they all agreed on removing Doha from Song-rik’s life if he proved to be even a bit of nuisance.
Collectively, the family had decided that ’their’ boyfriend needed to pay them a visit.
Yeon Doha’s phone rang on the morning of the next day.
It was Song-rik.
Today was the weekend. They had a movie date planned because they actually enjoyed watching the movie together.
Doha picked up the phone.
"Yeah, hyung. I’m almost ready. I’ll head down soon."
(Doha-ya...)
Song-rik sounded pretty annoyed on the phone.
"Yeah, what happened, hyung?"
(My family wants to meet you.)
"Ah, your family wants to meet me. Okay. Wait.... WAIT!!! WHAT!?! WHY?! HOW?! WHEN?! "
(They want to meet you today. They just had to ruin our date!)
The later sentence was muttered while clicking his tongue.
(You don’t have to if you don’t want to, though. I’ll handle things here.)
"Ah! No! I.... I’ll meet your family, hyung. It’s just that... it was kind of sudden so I’m nervous. "
(Is that so? Then I’m sending Secretary Cha to pick you up. You can dress lightly, my family doesn’t mind appearances.)
Like hell I can dress lightly, hyung!!!
"Sure, hyung. I’ll meet you there, then."
(Yeah. You can always turn around if you don’t feel like it, okay?)
Doha blushed a little, it felt nice to have someone have his back.
"Ok, hyung."
But he was dead set on meeting his boyfriend’s family as this was also a chance to get a good view of the family’s stance towards Song-rik.
If they were anything even remotely close to abusive towards Song-rik, he was hell set on making Song-rik move in with him and take care of him for the rest of their lives.
The two sides had similar misunderstandings and under these circumstances, the car that would take Doha to the family home of the Jang family arrived below his apartment building.
Doha went down and opened the back door of the car and was horrificly surprised.
"What are you doing here, Mr. Oh?" He asked looking at Ryujin who was sitting in the driver’s seat.
Ryujin smiled and said "Hello there, I just recently joined the company as Secretary Cha’s assistant."
Doha stared at him for a while. Then he looked at Secretary Cha for an answer.
No such response come from him. He looked very tired and sick of this shit, that he had just submitted to it and decided to ignore the person beside him.
"Don’t you have like your own company to run?" Doha asked a genuine question.
"Oh, I hired a manager for that."
Ryujin replied cheerfully.
You could just work at your own damn company!?!
Doha and Cha Jihwan seemed to share similar views.
"But I get back ache sitting all day long!" Ryujin whined as the car started going on it’s way. "And, I don’t think you’d want this guy to drive."
Ryujin tilted his head towards Jihwan and Doha immediately remembered Secretary Cha’s rash and fast driving during the first time he went to Song-rik’s place.
"Hahaha... "
Doha awkwardly laughed it off and decided it would be best to keep his mouth shut.
But why was Oh Ryujin stuck like gum to Cha Jihwan.
Doha always thought it was weird how well described Secretary Cha was for a side character.
Was he some hidden important character?
But he couldn’t care less about what kind of character Secretary Cha was.
Because when Song-rik was thrown out of the family, it was Secretary Cha who closed the gates on his face.
He even told the family about all of Song-rik’s slush funds and secret savings, essentially stripping him of all his emergency safety net.
But he was just wondering as much when the scenery outside changed to a countryside.
And it was just a while before they reached the family house of the Jang family.
Doha could see Song-rik standing in front of the front entrance waiting for him.
He smiled brightly as Doha got out of the car and walked hurriedly towards him.
The family meeting was finally about to begin.
