Chapter 226: Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty Five

Damon stared at her. He blinked slowly.

He was not shocked by her greed. He knew she loved money. He actually found her direct, honest love for gold quite refreshing compared to the sneaky, lying nobles in the capital.

"Which one?" Damon asked casually, as if he were simply offering her a piece of sweet cake. He gestured with his hand slightly. "I have gold, diamond, Ruby, and others."

The moment the words "gold, diamond, Ruby" left his lips, Camilla’s brain completely short-circuited.

Her eyes went so wide they looked like large, glowing coins.

Inside her head, her internal thoughts exploded with an incredibly loud, deafening noise.

CHA-CHING!

It was the loud, ringing, metallic sound of a cash register opening. The sound echoed so violently and so repeatedly inside her mind that it was practically screaming.

Cha-ching! Cha-ching! Cha-ching!

Damon physically flinched.

His entire body jerked slightly backward. He quickly raised his right hand and pressed his fingers hard against his temple, wincing in sudden discomfort. The mental noise was so loud and high-pitched that it almost blew his brain apart. He felt a sharp, throbbing headache starting to form behind his eyes.

He stared at his wife in amazement. He had never heard her thoughts scream so loudly before.

Camilla did not notice his pain. She was utterly blinded by her own greedy joy.

"A gold mine," Camilla said out loud. Her voice was slightly breathless and shaking with unadulterated happiness.

Damon slowly lowered his hand from his temple. He forced his face to look calm, though his head was still ringing.

"I will have Kade take care of the deed tomorrow morning," Damon replied smoothly. "He will write the contract in your name."

Damon looked at her wide, glowing eyes. He felt a very warm, gentle feeling in his chest. He liked making her happy, even if it cost him a whole gold mine.

"Aren’t you happy?" Damon asked softly, a warm smile spreading across his face.

Camilla quickly nodded her head rapidly.

"Of course I am," Camilla replied out loud. She forced her voice to sound polite, calm, and graceful, trying to maintain her role as a proper noble lady.

But inside her head, she was screaming and dancing a wild victory dance.

Damon watched her perfect, polite smile. He knew she was desperately trying to contain her massive joy. He decided to give her some privacy to celebrate her new fortune.

"If you want to rejoice, you can go away," Damon said, his voice full of proud amusement.

"Why will I do that? That is really unladylike." Camilla said.

Damon turned his body toward the doorway. "I’m going to my study to get my ledger. I have a lot of work to do tonight before I leave for the camp."

"Yes, My Lord," Camilla said, bowing her head slightly.

Damon turned around. He walked across the room, opened the door, and stepped out into the dark hallway.

He closed the door behind him. But he did not push it all the way shut.

Damon stopped walking just outside the room. He stood in the quiet hallway. He could not help himself. A deep, intense curiosity made him want to see how she would react when she thought she was completely alone.

He slowly leaned his head forward. He peeked through the tiny, dark crack of the open door.

The moment Camilla believed the door was closed, her calm, polite, noble mask vanished instantly.

She let out a wild squeal of happiness.

"Eeeeeeee!" Camilla squealed, throwing her hands high up into the air.

She climbed the soft mattress of the bed and began to jump up and down. Her silk dress bounced wildly around her. She hopped from one foot to the other, her long red curly hair flying in every direction. She looked insane, but she did not care.

"I have a gold mine!" Camilla cheered out loud, her voice full of joy. She grabbed one of the large white pillows and hugged it tightly to her chest, spinning around in a circle.

"In my name!" she laughed happily. "Oh my God, I am so incredibly happy! I am rich! I am so rich!"

Damon stood in the dark hallway, peeking through the crack of the door.

He watched her jumping, spinning, and hugging the pillow. He saw her bright, beautiful, genuine laugh. It was the most beautiful, most honest smile he had ever seen on her face.

A very soft, quiet, fond chuckle escaped Damon’s lips.

He shook his head slowly from side to side in amusement. Her happiness was definitely contagious. He felt incredibly happy just watching her be happy. The cold, strict walls around his heart melted completely. He did not care about the gold mine. He would gladly give her ten more mines just to see her jump and laugh like this every single day.

"She is such a strange, wonderful woman," Damon thought to himself, his eyes shining with quiet affection.

He slowly pulled his head away from the door. He turned around and walked quietly down the dark hallway, his steps light and his heart full of a quiet, warm peace as he headed down to his study to get his ledger.

Inside the master bedroom, Camilla finally stopped jumping.

She was completely out of breath. She threw the white pillow back onto the bed and sat down on the edge of the mattress. She wiped a small drop of happy sweat from her forehead, her chest rising and falling rapidly under her nightgown.

She was still smiling widely. She felt like she was floating on a warm cloud.

Suddenly, a soft, polite knock came on the door.

Knock. Knock.

Camilla stopped smiling instantly.

She jumped off the bed. She quickly smoothed down the front of her silk nightgown. She patted her messy curly hair to make sure it was presentable. She quickly changed her facial expression, wiping away the wild, jumping girl and putting on the mask of a calm, quiet, polite noble lady once again.

She sat down gracefully in the comfortable chair.

"Come in," Camilla said out loud. Her voice was smooth, soft, and calm.

The door opened slowly. Mr. Murry, the older housekeeper, stepped into the bedroom. He was holding a small, sealed white envelope in his hand.
