Chapter 194: Chapter 192: Gifts of the Journey
As Lyra closed to within five meters, Ulric suddenly moved. His hands reached out to grab the approaching girl before flipping her onto his lap as his hand dropped to smack her plump ass.
"You’ve grown more naughty... and bold," Ulric sighed, leaning forward to whisper into his ear.
He did it all in one fluid motion.
Lyra giggled as she tried to break free, but all her attempts were futile.
His thoughts wandered for a moment as his hands hovered over Lyra’s perky ass, squeezing it slightly as his eyes flashed with wonder.
It yielded beneath his fingers with surprising softness.
Lyra blushed furiously as she felt Ulric’s touch, the heat of desire slowly igniting within her. Just as she couldn’t take it anymore, Ulric flipped her around, dragging her close so she could sit comfortably on his lap.
"I’ve got a gift for you."
At his words, Lyra’s eyes sparkled brighter than ever as her breathing grew slightly heavier. Was this what he meant when he said he had something for them?
"What is... it?" she began, but before the words could fully leave her lips—
She suddenly gasped.
"Woah...!"
She watched as Ulric flicked his wrist.
In the next instant, a pair of intricately carved ice blades appeared before her, emitting intense waves of icy energy.
Staring blankly, Lyra could only blink rapidly.
Ever since she gained her S-rank Imperial Frost talent, she had explored its countless applications. As it evolved, eventually reaching SSS-rank, it had long surpassed the need for conventional weapons.
Why would she need one when she could conjure ice spears to impale her enemies? Ice blades... blizzards... countless applications rested at her fingertips, rendering ordinary weapons obsolete.
But as she stared at the twin blades before her, she could tell something was different about them.
It was almost as if they were calling her.
And the more she sensed the deadly ice energy leaking from them, the more intrigued she became.
They couldn’t be ordinary weapons. That much was obvious.
Like all things, weapons were divided into nine ranks.
Weapons capable of killing ordinary beasts devoid of mana were considered unranked.
Rank 1 weapons could injure regular Awakened and F-rank beings. Beyond that, their usefulness was fairly limited. Even so, they were rare due to their exorbitant price.
Rank 2 weapons were wielded only by elders and clan leaders. They could effortlessly cleave through E-rank beasts and even inflict grievous wounds upon D-rank beings. Their sharpness and durability far surpassed ordinary weapons.
As for Rank 3 weapons...
She had never seen or even heard of one existing in Tempest City.
But it was to be expected for a small city like theirs.
According to the records she had read, Rank 3 weapons could effortlessly pierce C-rank mana barriers and, if wielded with sufficient force, could even wound B-rank beings.
She had always wondered what such weapons would look like.
But as she stared at the twin blades before her, she had a feeling she was looking right at them.
Rank 3 weapons? It sounded absurd.
Yet the energy oozing from the blades far surpassed anything the elders possessed, making it the only plausible explanation.
But how did Ulric obtain such precious weapons?
She wanted to ask. But the thought vanished the moment it formed.
After witnessing him accomplish far more impossible feats, this almost felt like a trivial trick.
Unable to suppress herself any longer, Lyra hurriedly grabbed both hilts.
The instant her fingers wrapped around them, a chilling surge of energy flared wildly before sinking into her body, causing her to squeal excitedly.
It was almost as if she had reunited with a long-lost part of herself.
Lyra watched as the blades lit up with ethereal light, illuminating the intricate runes carved across their surfaces.
The more she looked at them, the more excited she became.
Were even the blades acknowledging that their bond was special?
She wasn’t a blade master or anything. But she could already foresee how this could vastly change her combat style.
As she stood on a large battlefield beside Ulric, enemies swarming from all directions. Suddenly, she swung both blades, which flashed with a brilliant light, cleaving every enemy before her in half and leaving nothing behind. All while an aloof expression rested on her face, which was very important.
Just like the indifferent expression that usually rested across Ulric’s face.
As all these scenarios circled through the back of her mind, she only grew more worked up before exclaiming to the dark-robed youth.
"I... I... love them!"
Not even giving him a chance to respond, she sprang to her feet before rushing into the distance, swinging both blades haphazardly.
At the sight, Ulric’s lips twitched slightly as he was just about to warn her to be careful. But the words froze on his tongue.
Barely a few seconds passed before her rough strokes and slashes were already growing less clumsy. Her coordination with the twin blades became smoother with every movement.
But it couldn’t be helped. This was the terrifying comprehension ability of an SSS-rank talent.
He had a feeling that even without guidance, she would become proficient with her blades within a few days at most.
"Incredible," Ulric muttered beneath his breath.
But none of that mattered.
It pleased him that she was excited and happy.
Besides, Ulric mused as the grin on his face widened.
A calculating glint flashed across his eyes. He had been thinking. He still had a few million corruption points left.
If he wanted, he could channel all of them into his own growth. But he doubted the results would be remarkable given how expensive the truly precious items were.
But... if he nurtured the girls and helped them grow stronger at a rapid pace, the corruption points he could reap from them would be massive.
A win-win for both parties.
At the thought, he almost broke into a fit of laughter. But he suppressed himself as his gaze shifted to Amber.
"Your turn," Ulric muttered as he stared into his large brown eyes.
"M-me..." Amber breathed as she slowly walked forward, the rest of the girls fixing their attention on her.
Having seen the wonderful gift Ulric had awarded Lyra, they couldn’t wait to see what he had prepared for each and every one of them.
Stepping closer, Amber’s lips parted slightly.
"I..."
As she moved to sit beside him, Ulric grabbed her waist, setting her on his lap.
The sudden gesture elicited a surprised Yelp from her as her face tinged with a deep blush.
Seated so close, her sweet scent wafted into his nostrils. Her breathing slowly grew erratic as her chest thumped rapidly.
All of it combined almost gave him the urge to gobble her up right then and there.
Amber seemed to sense this as her head dropped slightly, the blush spreading all the way to her neck.
Noticing all this, Ulric chuckled softly as he tightened his grip around her waist, pulling her even closer.
"What do you think I have for you?"
"Huh?" Amber breathed.
She hadn’t thought much about it, which only made her even more curious.
Unlike Lyra, she had been actively searching for a weapon. But she hadn’t found one that suited her tastes yet.
Looking into the distance, she saw Lyra excitedly swinging her blades, causing her to shake her head.
Blades were interesting... but she just didn’t like them.
She had considered getting a hammer like Aelira’s, but she didn’t think it suited her fighting style.
The more options she considered, the more clueless she became, until she finally shook her head helplessly in defeat.
"I don’t know..." she mumbled.
Smiling softly, Ulric flicked his wrist once more.
In the next instant, a simple staff appeared before Amber.
Staring at it, Amber’s eyes widened slightly.
It looked a little too simple.
Not that she liked flashy items. Matter of fact, its very simplicity appealed to her in more ways than one.
Driven by curiosity, she reached out and gently wrapped her hand around it.
Instantly, her eyes lit up as information regarding the staff flooded her mind.
The more she read, the faster her expression changed from confusion to excitement.
[Staff of Ambience]
(An heirloom of an ancient lineage that walked the path of harmony. Though history has forgotten their names, one teaching hardened: Strength without peace is merely another form of weakness.)
Besides the surprising description, its abilities were even more astonishing.
"Weight manipulation... faster mobilization of energy..."
"This was amazing!" Amber mused.
Given that her class was Warrior while most of her abilities leaned toward the Mage archetype, her combat style had never truly become specialized.
But with this... all of that could easily change.
She could excel at both close-quarters combat and mage techniques.
The thought alone filled her with exhilaration.
Her arms wrapped tightly around Ulric as she buried herself in his embrace.
It felt like the perfect weapon had been crafted specifically for her.
With all these thoughts circulating through the back of her mind, she reluctantly pulled away before rushing into the distance to explore it further.
She didn’t say thank you.
But she would keep this gesture deep within her heart.
