Chapter 187: Chapter 186: Advanced Training Chamber

[Ding! You have drained your seed inside Amber! You have gained... corruption points!]

[Ding! You have drained your seed inside Aelira! You have gained... corruption points!]

[Ding! You have drained your seed inside Lyra! You have gained... Corruption points!]

[Ding! You have drained your seed inside Tara! You have gained... Corruption points!]

[Ding! ...]

[...]

Ulric slipped into a momentary daze as he stared at the cascade of notifications continuously pouring into his line of vision.

For a moment, he almost got the illusion that it was endless. That feeling was only intensified as he watched the final number of his accumulated corruption points continually surge upward at a drastic pace.

He had a feeling he could watch this forever, but sadly all good things must come to an end.

Staring at the last notification, a quiet sigh slipped past his lips as an expressionless look settled on his face.

But that didn’t last long as he stared at the final number.

The figure caused his eyes to widen as a glint of shock flashed within them.

[Total Unallocated Corruption Points: 5,763,400]

"This..." Ulric finally breathed, the rest of the words freezing in his throat before he couldn’t take it anymore as a fit of laughter ripped out of him.

This was just too surreal and definitely far more than enough to purchase one of those top-ranked bloodlines he had had his eyes on for a while.

Possessing only surface-level knowledge of how they boosted one’s strength, he had always been curious about them.

He had a physique and high-ranked talents that had bloomed into an art. All he lacked was a bloodline.

But not for long, Ulric mused as his laughter slowly eased into a dry wheeze.

Opening his system interface to browse through, he suddenly paused as another notification popped up before him.

[Ding! Congratulations! You have accumulated 5,000,000 corruption points and successfully unlocked the first system feature!]

"Huh?" Ulric paused as he stared blankly at the notification for a while.

A system feature. Did this mean what he thought it did?

At first, he had been a little worried all his corruption points had been used to unlock this, but he was glad to see they were still all there.

It was a little different from his system shop, as this was based on a milestone.

But that wasn’t what mattered most.

Going over the implications of what this meant repeatedly in the back of his mind, a shit-eating grin slowly carved its way across his face.

The system had already been exceptionally wonderful just the way it was. He couldn’t imagine how it would be now with this feature.

Also, he had been quick to note that this was referred to as the first system feature.

Would there be more?

Maybe he would unlock them by gathering even more corruption points.

At the thought, he almost broke into another fit of laughter. But he suppressed it through sheer will and the desire eating at him to find out what this new system feature was all about.

Calming himself, Ulric stilled his breath as he clicked on the notification and read through the description.

[Advanced Training Chamber]

[A mental space developed within the host to speed up training in all sorts of techniques and realm breakthroughs. Heavenly treasures will boost the speed and productivity.]

"An advanced training chamber?" Ulric mumbled beneath his breath.

It sounded interesting. Even more so, he had a feeling a strange link had been established between them, allowing him to access it whenever he wanted.

Unable to resist the urge, Ulric tapped into it.

Instantly after, his vision blanked out as his body collapsed to the ground.

When he regained his vision, he found himself inside a massive room filled with strange energy particles, glimmering with all sorts of colors that pulsed at different intervals.

Staring at them almost reminded him of aether, which strangely soothed him.

But that wasn’t the best part yet.

Besides feeling calm and relaxed simply by being in this place, he could feel his aether rotations speeding up without him doing anything.

"Amazing," Ulric breathed, wonder filling his face.

If this was just passive, what would happen if he actively concentrated?

Immediately acting on his thoughts, Ulric dropped into a lotus position and entered a state of meditation.

The results were instant.

As he channeled all his focus into the speed of his aether rotations, he could feel their pace double naturally without bringing any adverse consequences.

Previously, he had calculated that the only way to grow stronger was by killing C-rank beings and stealing their mana so he could convert it into aether.

The more aether he had, the faster he could refine his Myriad Aether Transcendent Art.

But this...This just opened his eyes to an entirely new path.

Before, if he had estimated it would take about a year before he stepped into peak D rank, then this effectively cut that time in half.

And he could accelerate even that pace with natural treasures.

As all these thoughts circled in the back of his mind, Ulric grew even more excited.

This was far better than he could have ever imagined or anticipated.

Which couldn’t help but make him wonder what the rest of the system features would be like.

Would they be even better than this?

He couldn’t wait.

As Ulric sank deeper and deeper into his thoughts, the academy selections drew near as multiple events unfolded.

Elsewhere, inside a wooden shack in one of the great cities, two figures came into view.

One was a middle-aged woman with raven-black hair trailing all the way down her back, framing a seemingly beautiful face with soft black eyes. She was draped in a coarse white robe barely covering her frame, parts of it stitched together with rags.

The other was a young man sporting short black hair in a green robe.

His eyes darted toward a wooden pole planted in the courtyard before him as his balled fists repeatedly crashed into it. Low huffing breaths escaped his lips every now and then.

"That’s enough for today, son. You need to rest up for next week," the lady muttered, a warm smile coloring her face as she stared at the youth before her.

Sigh.

Ethan exhaled softly, his jet-black eyes trailing over his calloused hands as a thought replayed in his mind.

If only I had a few gold coins to grant me access to a dungeon so I could boost my level a little more.

But whatever.

He was still a level 27 being, and he sure as hell was going to make up for it during the academy selections.

His head lifted slowly, eyeing the woman before him as a growing sense of determination burned deep inside him.

"I’ll make sure to perform well so I can be selected by an academy, Mom. I’ll make you proud, Mother. I’ll give you the life you always deserved," he breathed, memories of the past surfacing in his mind and threatening to bring tears to his eyes.

"I’ll always be proud of you. Whatever the result tomorrow, know that I’ll always love you. As long as you’re happy, then I’m happy too," the lady muttered, stepping forward before hugging the youth tightly.

Elsewhere, inside a lavishly furnished room, a man sat upon a throne, his eyes locked onto a girl kneeling before him before his voice boomed across the chamber.

"The family has showered you with all our resources, treasures, and guidance from the elders. All you have to do is ensure you secure entrance into an elite academy, or even a top-tier one. Anything less, and you’re useless to us! We do not raise leeches. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Father. I understand," the girl breathed, her fists clenching before continuing.

"The family name will echo throughout the kingdom in glory through me. I won’t shame you."

The robe draping her figure rippled faintly under the force of her words.

"Good. I’ll be counting on it," the seated figure murmured, an emotionless glint tinting his eyes.

"You’re dismissed."

***

Elsewhere, across the Jade Kingdom, on the outskirts of a secluded city.

The figure of a white-robed youth came into view, sitting in a meditative position beside a flowing river.

His hair whipped gently in the breeze, his eyes tightly closed as he inhaled and exhaled continuously.

His breathing matched the river’s current as he sank into meditation.

Before his eyes suddenly snapped open, revealing a pair of purple eyes flashing with spectral lightning.

Jumping to his feet with unnatural grace, he unsheathed the sword hanging from his waist before swinging it toward the river before him.

At first, nothing seemed to have happened. At least, to the ordinary eye.

But that illusion was shattered almost instantly.

The river before the youth was cleaved in half, a massive rift forming between the parted waters that stretched for a few hundred meters.

Swinging and sheathing his blade in one fluid motion, Azvoid smiled softly.

"Not bad."

He stared at the destruction he had wrought. But the smile wore off a few seconds later.

This was fun. But what would be even more fun would be a battle.

He could hardly wait for the academy selections to test his blade against the kingdom’s geniuses.

The only reason he was participating in the trials.

***

Similar scenes unfolded all across the Jade Kingdom, varying in intensity as the upcoming generation prepared for the academy selection trials.
