Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Two Peas in a Pod
What the masked man said wasn’t a question, but a statement. He seemed confident of his claim too.
Ye Lingyue bit her lip. If he knew she was familiar with Ye Shaoqin, it only meant one thing; she was part of the Ye family’s exile party.
She laughed humorlessly and waved her hand. "How could it be? I just feel pity for the little boy since he reminds me of my own brother."
The man’s eyes seemed to narrow slightly. He was smiling. It was unknown whether he believed her nonsense or not, but he didn’t continue the topic.
At least not for now.
"Tie all of them and bring them back for interrogation," he ordered sternly toward his subordinates.
"Yes, Master!" The masked men chorused.
Then, they proceeded to execute his order, tying up the struggling kidnappers.
Ye Lingyue focused on checking Ye Shaoqin for any injuries again, and fortunately, besides some faint scratching marks, he was completely fine.
She sighed in relief and peeked at the tallest masked man again, only to find he was currently looking at her. He didn’t seem to feel embarrassed she had caught him red-handed.
"How is he?" He asked.
"Only light injuries. He is fine," she muttered.
At this moment, a person she expected the least to appear suddenly ran toward them.
"Brat, what do you think you are doing here? So stubborn!" Ye Lanxi’s thunderous voice echoed. Alarms rang in Ye Lingyue’s head.
She panicked slightly. This foolish second son of the Ye family would definitely ruin her attempt to cover up her identity.
Soon, Ye Lanxi arrived at her side, gasping and panting.
Her head stiffly turned to him. At an angle the masked man beside her couldn’t see, she winked at Ye Lanxi, trying to give him a hint.
Since the Ninth Prince’s forces spent most of their time on the border, they shouldn’t recognize him.
As long as he didn’t admit they were from the Ye family, they would be safe and these people wouldn’t report them to Commander Leng.
Ye Lanxi lifted his head and frowned. "What happened to you? Your eyes..."
She immediately transferred Ye Shaoqin to her left hand and put her right hand on Ye Lanxi’s mouth. This stupid blabbermouth! He will definitely land himself and a lot of people in trouble someday because he couldn’t control it.
"Second Brother, wuwuwu..." Ye Lingyue applied more force on his face, causing Ye Lanxi to wince slightly.
"What’s–"
She cut him off again, sniffling. "I was so scared. It was so cold and dark... Fortunately, they helped me."
After she said that, she handed over Ye Shaoqin to the masked man beside her. However, another masked person immediately took him from her arms.
"Master, I will take care of this little boy," he said respectfully.
"They are the Ninth Prince’s men..." Ye Lingyue trailed off, trying to make Ye Lanxi understand something.
Ye Lanxi’s pupils constricted, and he gazed at Ye Shaoqin in the arms of the masked man. Since these people were the Ninth Prince’s people, it was indeed the best to leave Ye Shaoqin with him.
After all, if they were to bring Ye Shaoqin back, Commander Leng would know that they had been secretly sneaking during the night.
Seeing that Ye Lanxi had gone quiet, she turned to the man holding Ye Shaoqin. "Brother, please keep the little brother safe."
Then, she shifted her attention to Ye Lanxi again, pretending to wipe the imaginary tears in her eyes. "Second Brother, let’s go."
She tugged on Ye Lanxi’s sleeve, dragging him away from the scene, subconsciously increasing her pace.
During dinner, she had given Ye Lanxi a dose of sleeping powder, even putting a little more just in case. Unexpectedly, he still woke up.
After Ye Lingrui set her up a few times, now she doubted him again. If she knew it was him who gave her fake sleeping powder, she would definitely teach him a lesson.
Even if his intention wasn’t malicious, it still put her in a difficult situation.
She was almost exposed in front of the Ninth Prince’s men.
However, she was also reminded of others# state. Shen Jingyi didn’t wake up, neither did the other three men. The problem... might be Ye Lanxi.
Next time, she would need to increase the dose, making it high enough to knock down an ox.
"What are you thinking about, Shorty?" Seeing her so lost in thoughts, Ye Lanxi couldn’t resist knocking her head.
They already walked quite far from the masked men’s location.
Ye Lingyue punched his arm back angrily. "You are shorty, your whole family are shorties!"
Upon hearing her cursing, Ye Lanxi didn’t get angry. Instead, he let out a boisterous laugh. "My Ye family includes you. Isn’t that just a roundabout way to say you are a shorty?"
She took a deep breath, feeling anger boiling in her chest. Then, thinking that Ye Shaoqin had been successfully saved, she shook her head and ignored him.
However, even if she ignored him, it didn’t mean he would do the same.
"Shorty, it was because of you that I felt so damn sleepy, right?" Ye Lanxi immediately accused her.
When Ye Lingyue slipped away, he had been aware of it, but his eyelids felt incredibly heavy. It took all of his willpower before he could open them.
His sleepy state made him lose some of his senses. The imperial guards almost caught him because of this.
It took him a while before the effect wore off even after he washed his face in the river. So, it was definitely not an ordinary condition—someone must have put sleeping powder in him without him noticing.
If there was the culprit, the major suspect was definitely Ye Lingrui, but his younger brother was dead asleep.
The most suspicious one was Ye Lingyue. After she recovered, he found out that this little sister of his was incredibly cunning, similar to Ye Lingrui.
Their Ye family’s twins were like two peas in one pod not just in terms of appearance.
"Did you do it?" Ye Lanxi demanded.
