Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Original Body’s Habits
"Alright, I will use Yue’er’s medicine efficiently," Ye Lingrui said. He reached out to ruffle Ye Lingyue’s hair, causing a stunned look to appear on her face.
She evaded Ye Lingrui’s touch and looked away with an awkward look on her face.
"Did you do this kind of thing often?" She asked in a low voice, glancing at the pair of guards who had been scrutinizing and following them.
The exile group had finally stopped after walking for quite a bit, right at the moment the sun completely disappeared in the west.
The imperial guards probably decided they should start heading to the exile location as soon as possible to minimize the chance of the Ye family hiding some valuables.
After all, if they stayed at the Ye family’s mansion overnight, some people would find a way to hide some treasures.
As such, they still urged the Ye family’s members despite the sun that would soon set in a two or three hours.
"Yue’er doesn’t remember?" Ye Lingrui asked, raising his eyebrows.
The siblings were still pretending to search for some medicinal herbs in the ground. Ye Lingyue carried the oil lamp while Ye Lingrui picked all the herbs.
When she heard the question, Ye Lingyue pursed her lips and said truthfully. "I don’t. I have lost my memories. Now, tell me how I was before."
She didn’t care if her words sounded like nonsense to Ye Lingrui’s ears—she just wanted to fish for some information.
Ye Lingrui continued to search for the common herbs in the ground. His next words made her mouth twitch. "Yue’er has lost her memories..."
"I will check your head later." He added in a gentle tone.
Her mouth twitched. She wasn’t sure whether he was serious or mocking her. Her fists subconsciously hardened.
"In order to trigger your memories, reminiscing about good times is also a good method." Ye Lingrui interrupted her thoughts.
The next moment, she loosened her fists and began to listen attentively.
In a low voice, Ye Lingrui began to explain about the original body’s habit. His tone was extremely gentle. "Yue’er, you like to climb trees even though Mother often forbids you from doing it."
"In the morning, you are as lazy as a cat, always sitting on a chair and enjoying the warm sunlight. Your favorite foods are the sweet and spicy ones."
"One time, you mixed some chili in Second Brother’s food and..."
The more Ye Lingyue listened, the more weird she felt. Some of these descriptions like basking in the morning sun or climbing trees were terribly similar to her hobbies.
Even her tastes.
"Are you two done?!" The imperial guards finally couldn’t hold it anymore and came over to them. They barked. "Go back to your place if you are done. Don’t dawdle around!"
Before they could grab Ye Lingyue roughly, Ye Lingrui already shoved her behind him. He held up the herbs he had gathered. "Imperial Guards, we have gathered enough herbs for now."
"Then go back. You can talk once you are back in the camp. You two aren’t trying to run away, are you?" One imperial guard accused, looking at them suspiciously.
Ye Lingrui was still calm under the imperial guard’s pressure and accusations. He replied in an unhurried tone. "Of course not. You can check our herbs. We are really just looking for herbs for our eldest brother."
"Follow us," the imperial guards ordered, not interested in talking with Ye Lingrui any longer.
They found him annoying.
The siblings returned to the camping site. Ye Lingrui immediately entered the carriage. He went to check Ye Zhiqiu’s condition before he went out to make the medicine.
His skills weren’t as good as seasoned physicians, but it was better than nothing, especially when Ye Zhiqiu was going through some rough period.
Madam Ye got up from the carriage and followed him.
The space was pretty cramped and they would need to sleep in a sitting position later. On the other hand, some people—like the rest of the healthy men in the Ye family and the servants—were going to sleep outside with quilts.
Ye Lingyue stared at the servants thoughtfully. She more or less understood why they were exiled with them.
Once they arrived in the exile location, or even when they were still on the way to exile... sooner or later, there would be no different status between them.
These servants were still acting obedient for now. They feared and at the same time, still harbored the expectation that the Ye family would be cleared of their crimes.
Once the realization set in that it wouldn’t happen, these servants wouldn’t be as obedient anymore. As their Masters, not all of them had treated them kindly.
There was a high chance these servants would turn against them and retaliate for their past grievances.
"Rui’er, let Mother help you to grind the medicinal herbs," Madam Ye said.
The pair of mother and son then worked together to make medicine for Ye Zhiqiu. Just as Ye Lingrui had predicted before, the eldest son was suffering from high fever.
Madam Ye had used a wet cloth in hope to reduce the temperature of her son’s body.
On the side, Ye Lingyue watched what Madam Ye and Ye Lingrui were doing from the side, pretending to be ignorant.
At this time, the imperial guards finally distributed their dinner—coarse steamed buns and thin porridge that might as well have been water.
The first branch suddenly came over to them. Zheng Huizhen wore an arrogant expression. "Second sister-in-law, Zhiqiu is still unconscious, right? What if you give his dinner for us?"
