Chapter 264: Get rid of the poor.

Hours seemed to pass in minutes. Sienna wanted to go outside and join the fight. It seemed so cowardly to hide inside when she had mental strength. But ultimately, the safety of the children mattered more than any desire to show how powerful she was.

Outside, the last thief was subdued, chained and dragged before Elias. The dead thieves were piled next to the ones who had survived with their lives. The compound lay battered, some plants in the garden were destroyed, but most things were intact. The bees were still buzzing angrily. Most of the thieves that died had ended up in that condition because of bee venom.

The door was opened, and Elias stepped into the room. There were drops of blood on his white pajamas. He was barefoot, but otherwise, pristine as always. Not one hair was out of place. His expression was grim.

"Is it over?" Sienna asked him.

He nodded, "Six groups of thieves in total."

They emerged from the room and went outside to take a look. The family and their workers were moving through the wreckage, different groups claiming a corner of the compound to restore. As dawn was creeping over the horizon, the younger cousins were sent away to prepare for school.

Grandpa Corven was in the backyard garden, pulling up crushed roots and replanting what could be salvaged. Guards from the fox vanguard patrolled the perimeter, their eyes sharp, their tails bristling with lingering tension.

"Come on," Sienna tugged her children back inside. She moved with quiet authority, spooning warm porridge into bowls, coaxing them to eat. Her voice was steady, a lullaby woven into every words. When their bellies were full, she tucked them into blankets in the living room, whispering promises of safety.

The cubs clung to her, their eyes heavy, until sleep finally claimed them. Only then did she rise and move to the hives.

The bees were still buzzing, unsettled after the disturbance. Their hum was uneven, wings beating in anxious rhythms. Sienna approached carefully, her hands carrying a large basin with a mixture of water and shimmering blue liquid. The liquid was a reward from the system, part of the weight loss food package. It was a healing and strengthening nutrient.

She put it down and poured some nectar inside. The bees swarmed eagerly, coming out of their hives, following the leadership of their queens. After the queens drunk, the others followed. The hive’s hum grew steadier, a chorus of calm.

Sienna stroked Red queen on the head. "You are safe here, we will protect you."

Geo let out a deep breath that he had been holding since she approached the hive. "What a night?!"

She exhaled like him, "Indeed. It seems like I should buy up all the properties around here to be truly safe."

He was about to reply when they heard a commotion outside. Screams, falcon screeches, a tiger’s roar and fox barks. She hurried outside, with Geo on her heels. They found Liman, Christo and some fox guards dragging a hyena beast man to the courtyard. His clothes were torn, his face streaked with sweat and shame.

"What is going on?" Sienna asked.

Elias pointed to the man. "He was not part of the thieves but he is a traitor. He works as a janitor in the security building I put up at the entrance to the beach. He took a bribe, drugged the guards and opened our private sea side home to the thieves. And he is not the only one, we have found three residents that accepted payments too, hiding the thieves in their homes before the hour of the attack."

Sienna glared at the man. "A hyena beast man! Our tribe is trying to be progressive by employing those from other tribes. I remember how Timothy threw his file out and your mother put it back." She sneered, gazing at her husband. "Did she think she was the only one that could bribe him? If he could take money from her for information and other things, so could others." She gestured to the guards, "Arrest all those people that were involved and hand them over to the enforces. I want a thorough investigation into them. Confiscate their properties that they own here. The real danger we have tasted did not come from the thieves, it came from within our walls."

Guards murmured, some in outrage, others in shame because they had also accepted bribes before, to be Cadelaria’s spies. The hyena beast man tried to speak, but Liman silenced him with a slap. "Lady Sienna, we can’t let this hyena off easy. The heirs could have been hurt. You could have been kidnapped or killed. It is not just theft, it is betrayal of trust. He needs to be punished in a more cruel way than simple imprisonment."

The Veythar elders debated, voices rising and falling like waves. They had to punish the traitor without creating an inter-tribal conflict. Some demanded exile, others wanted his tendons severed. Sienna listened, her expression unreadable, until Linera stepped in. "I suggest sending him to the mines. Make him labor for the tribe until his hands bleed. It is a justified punished, his tribe will not find an excuse to claim that foxes are unjust."

Sienna nodded slowly. "So be it. Not just him, but all the others that harbored the thieves. They cannot get away with simply paying fines. The only ones that will be forgiven are those who were forced into it. And take money from all of them to repair the compound and strengthen the defenses around this sea side cottage area. When that is finished, dig into the backgrounds of everyone living near us." She sighed. "Anyone that is...."

"Get rid of all the poor in this area. Anyone whose net worth is less than one hundred million should move." Jess cut her off, ordering firmly. "Buy up their properties and relocate them." She looked at Sienna with firm eyes. "I will handle this from now on. Focus on your duties at your office and entertaining your royal beast friend and her husband that will be arriving at our gates in five minutes. Make sure the king does not die of bee venom on our property."

Sienna groaned. If the king was here, it was to request for a ride on the back of Red queen. After what had happened in the night, she didn’t think the bee would be willing.
