Chapter 240: One secret cuddle.
Sienna was asleep, curled beneath the heavy blankets, dreaming of swimming in a pool of honey, when her peace was shattered. Heavy footsteps echoed through the room, the light was turned on and someone heavy sat on her feet.
She sat up, blinking. As carefully as she could, Sienna freed her feet and finally looked at her husband. He was in a state she had never witnessed before, like a ship battered by waves. His hair was mussed, his cloak half-buttoned, and his tails swayed around him in chaotic arcs.
His eyes were glassy, cheeks flushed.
"Sienna," he whispered dramatically, as though announcing her name to the heavens. "Sienna, my Sienna. My bestie..."
She frowned. "You’re drunker than a fish!"
"No..I am intoxicated," he corrected, trying to stand upright but wobbling like a reed in the wind. "I did it, I made my father smile. I took him to the bar and gave him a wink."
Sienna rubbed her temples. "A wink?"
"Yes!" he declared, collapsing onto the bed beside her. "The woman with green ropes on her head winked at Miro. She took his coins. We cheered. All is well."
Sienna sighed. "You smell like pineapples."
He ignored the remark, clinging to her suddenly, wrapping his arms around her waist. His tails, usually regal and controlled, now flopped and tangled around her like oversized scarves. He rubbed them against her shoulders, her arms, even her face, murmuring nonsense. "Soft...warm...my soft rolls...mine...mine...Not Ali’s mine."
Sienna stiffened. This was not the fox lord she knew! The man who commanded a fox army, who scolded elders, who silenced people with one look. He was like a child, a baby fox, clinging desperately for comfort. His eyes glistened, and to her shock, tears spilled down his cheeks.
"Sienna," he whimpered, voice breaking. "Don’t refuse me. Don;t push me way. Just....cuddle."
Sienna pulled back, startled. "Cuddle? You don’t often cuddle."
"I do now," he snapped, like a porcupine that had been pricked. His tails wrapped tighter around her like ropes. "I require cuddling. It is medicinal, it is your duty. You cuddle with Ali all the time. Why can’t it be me?"
She tried to pry his tails off, but they clung stubbornly, twitching with drunken determination. "You are being ridiculous. There is a difference between cuddling and strangling. What you are doing is straggling."
"I am tragic." he wailed, sniffing. "A tragic fox lord, undone by cuddles denied. I have a heartless wife, I will sue her for cuddles."
Sienna sighed, half-annoyed, half-amused. She wondered what he would do tomorrow if she recorded footage of this moment and presented it to him. Would he vanish for a whole month just to avoid her, or would he simply throw himself in the sea? "Just so we are clear Elias, you are crying for cuddles."
"Yes," he admitted shamelessly, tears dripping onto her sleeve. "Because you refuse to cuddle, my heart is shattered. My dignity is gone. My tails have lost their beauty."
Sienna couldn’t help it; she laughed. The sight of the mighty fox lord, reduced to a whimpering mess, tails flailing like distressed puppies, was too absurd. "You are behaving like a baby."
"I am a baby," he declared, clutching her tighter. "I am your mighty, enormous, dignified, powerful baby." He lowered his voice to a whisper, "I secretly drink milk from the kitchen everyday. Liman washes the cup and cleans up, so nobody knows." He giggled, "I add three spoons of honey which makes it very very sweet. But don’t tell my wife." He put a finger to his lips. "Shush."
Sienna scoffed and laughed.
He sniffled again, rubbing his face against her shoulder like a child seeking comfort. "Sienna....please. Just once cuddle. One. Then I will sleep. Or cry more. Whichever works best."
She sighed, torn between irritation and pity. "Fine. One cuddle."
Elias brightened instantly, tears forgotten, tails wagging like excited dogs. He nestled against her, sighing contentedly, as though the world’s biggest burdens had melted away. "Perfect. You are perfect. You are cuter than duck print socks. Don’t tell Eli, but I am going to steal his socks and wear them. They will look better on me anyway."
Sienna shook her head, amused despite herself. "Tomorrow, you’ll deny all of this." He would deny the tears and duck print socks. Elias had been very vocal about his dislike of the socks that she had given Eli as a gift.
Initially, it had been a joke. Sienna had assumed that they boy would set them on fire. Unexpectedly, he was wearing them proudly and just today, he had told her to buy him more pairs. It seemed like she would have to buy some for her husband too.
"What other secrets are you hiding from me?" She asked him.
A tail covered his mouth. "Not telling."
Sienna laughed. "I should have live streamed this moment. You would have gone down in history as the first fox lord to beg for cuddles on camera. The first in his lineage to cry for cuddles. The first to steal milk from his own kitchen."
She thought she would be getting a laugh or another denial. Instead, she got soft snoring. Elias had fallen asleep so easily after creating a fuss that forced her to wake up. Sienna lay awake, staring at the ceiling, wondering how she had ended up married to a man who could be both an ice statue and sobbing baby in the same day.
Sleep was about to claim her again when the door slid open. Dim lights came on, and Jess swept inside, accompanied by three attendants. The older woman stopped by the bed, looking down at Sienna.
"Interesting sleeping position."
Sienna sighed. "Drunk Elias is a furry cuddler."
Jess nodded. "He is just like his grandfather and father. That is why I came to see you. As soon as I settled Jesse down, I came to see if you needed help. Does he need a bath or help changing out of his clothes?"
Sienna looked at the three middle aged women around Jess, and she shook her head. "No, we are fine. I don’t want to wake him up." Besides, he wouldn’t be happy knowing that a bunch of women had undressed and touched him all over, in the duty of helping him take a bath.
If anyone was going to undress and touch him all over, it was her.
"Grandma, do you think father-in-law is cuddling Cadelaria right now?" Sienna asked a random question that popped into her mind. "Will they have made up by tomorrow? Looks like she will be getting off easy."
The speed Jess used to leave the bedroom was the same one the Twindell’s had used to abandon Cadelaria when the 250 million was mentioned.
A sly smile visited Sienna’s lips, settling down firmly. Maybe Elias was not wrong about her, she loved creating trouble!
